SODO Sunday – April 7th, 2024

Start your engines for a scenic view of some SODO Chronicle all while keeping a poker face for the reveal of the latest SHODO Super team!

Hello again, toku toy lovers! Scott here once more with another stellar edition of SODO Sunday; we have lots to show on both the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider fronts with todays reveals. Granted, these reveals are a week old at this point but I thank you all for sticking with us and waiting patiently to hear it directly from us!

Let’s not waste any time and dive right on in…

SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Drive #2

Releasing this month is the second Kamen Rider Drive SODO Chronicle set, capping off the main character options reproduced as efficiently as possible! Lots to get excited about in set #2 including the reveal of the figure that was once hidden…

Albeit, the answer was always super obvious and you likely guessed who it was right away…

Ta-da!!! It’s our boy, Kamen Rider Chaser! Again, a super obvious reveal that was pointless to hide, given that this set also contains Mach Chaser. Like his Mashin Chaser form, his shoulder symbol has been painted on and it seems he only requires a meagre handful of stickers. His Shingou Axe is included within the options set which we’ll take a brief look at later!

Assuming you previously obtained SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider #1, you’ll now be able to complete the main trio! I was initially excited when SHODO-X gave us Drive figures but disappointed they never completed the trio; this will now be my main Drive set in the small scale. Don’t miss out on your chance to do the same!

Speaking of earlier, here’s Kamen Rider Mach Chaser in all his glory! I will admit, I’m somewhat disappointed by his addition. Mostly due to how he looks like an easy kitbash of both Mach and Chaser kits. This would have been really easy to reproduce and thus been a good spot for another character. Perhaps a Roidmude? Heart? Kamen Rider Proto Drive? That’s just some initial suggestions without digging into some of Drive’s other forms.

Here’s a nice little side by side! Twins!!!

A new Kamen Rider Drive SODO set would be nothing without the titular hero making an appearance and he does, albeit in his final form, skipping all the forms that lead up to this moment. Kamen Rider Drive Type Tridoron vrooms onto the scene! This is perhaps one of my favourite Drive forms and final forms throughout the Heisei period. Various tyres are included in the options pack that you’ll be able to swap out with him.

On top of that, Type Tridoron’s Trailer Hou is also inside the options pack! Equip the desired weapons and tyre accessories to recreate your favourite moments from the season!

Finally, we get to the big bad himself. The Grand villain of the season: Gold Drive. Together with the rest of the set allows the recreation of many moments from the third act of Drive’s season, including the finale!

Including, but not limited to, one of the best father/son battles, personally speaking! I still remember the goosebumps this scene gave me as Mach avenges the death of Chase! By the end of Drive, I was a solidified Kamen Rider fan from there on out. Now look at me, coming full circle writing about figures from the first season I enjoyed. I need a moment…

A lot of accessories look to be included with the options pack in this one! Some tyres for Tridoron as I mentioned before but also some for Drive Type Speed from SODO Chronicle Set #1! A lot of bang for your buck in this set.

Whether Kamen Rider Drive continues in the SODO Chronicle line after this set is anyone’s guess. Personally, I believe it to not be so. Set #1 gave us the important characters and forms of the season’s first half while Set #2 here does the same for the latter half. It’s a shame, because there’s so many more characters I’m sure fans would love to get their hands on. Despite it all though, I’ll remain somewhat optimistic we get something.

Now remember, SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Drive #2 released just a few days ago! If you want to snag them, get your special orders into us to avoid disappointment, and check out Kamen Rider Drive’s season if you haven’t – it doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves!

SHODO Super J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai

In a surprise completely out of left field, J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai is getting the SHODO Super treatment! Like the previous Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger SHODO Super set, it will be commercialised independently from the SMP which is why the announcement is so susprising!

If ya’ll remember from when I posted a look at the SMP GingaiOh, I predicted that the next SHODO Super set to be revealed would be Gingaman based on a systematic pattern of a season’s SMP mecha being released in parallel with a SHODO Super set. I was definitely caught off guard with this announcement. Alas, it’s a surprise to be sure but a welcome one!

Anyhow, lets get a good look at each member of the team…

Space Ace

“The red-hot blood of justice cuts through evil and shoots Atom!!”

Dia Jack

“I’ll make the bell ring with my angry electricity and protect the blue earth!”

Heart Queen

“A peach flower blooms on the battlefield, throwing away the tears of my daughter 18!!”

Clover King

“When the heavy punch roars, a green wind swirls!!”

And last but not least…

Big One

“Hahahahahaha… Jacker Dengeki Squad action leader, Sokichi Bamba! And what’s the reality…! Big! One!!”

It may not be noticeable at first but the Bandai Candy team have made sure to give Big One a unique slightly muscular body compared to the rest of the team. Really putting the ‘big’ in Big One!!!

Together they form the JAKQuer Blitzkrieg Squad! Unlike some of the more recent SHODO Super team sets that have utlised a very small handful of stickers, this set looks to be completely sticker-free!!!

Of course, in typical SHODO Super fashion, expect an arsenal of accessories and hand options. Lets get a look at each members weapons below…

Spade Arts

An amazing bow that can transform into a long handled whip! Of course the set comes with all pieces to recreate the transformation.

Dia Sword

A more traditional sentai weapon by todays standards! Lore wise it has an extendable/collapsible blade but here it’s only modelled in one size.

Heart Cute

Heart Queen’s weapon works to attract or repel enemies and doubles as a deadly boomerang!

Club Megaton

A club that forms onto the hand of Clover King! The set comes with two, an alternate with a removable fist, but you’ll have to get creative if you want to have the change effect.

Big Baton

And of course, Big One’s signature weapon, the Big Baton! you may notice he’s carrying something there… but what is it!?

Why it’s bullets for the Big Bomber!!!

And now we combine our efforts…

As you can see, plenty of options and opportunities to recreate your favourite moments for play or display!

Now lets get a look at all of the accessories and options laid out…

Don’t quote me here as I’m not 100% certain but this may be the biggest lineup of hand options in SHODO Super yet! The Bandai Candy team always go above and beyond.

That’s gonna do it for now though folks! It’s an impressive lot to look forward to and while I would have personally preferred Goranger before J.A.K.Q. I’m still fairly excited to get my hands on this set. Also, keep in mind that this set releases October 2024. We expect to stock these soon at The Toku Source but they can also be secured via special order. Email us at contact@thetokusource.com or reach out on social media to place your order. Make sure you don’t miss out everybody.

Excited for SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Drive!? Hoping there’s gonna be at least a set or two after? What do you think about J.A.K.Q. getting some figure representation? Is this a win for Sentai fans?
