New Series: Kamen Rider Gavv Trademark Filed

A new trademark ‘Kamen Rider Gavv’ has been filed by Toei, therefore confirming the title of Kamen Rider Gotchard’s successor.

Toei Company Ltd. has filed a new trademark for the next Kamen Rider series under the name of Kamen Rider Gavv. The trademark has recently been approved by the Japanese Intellectual Property Database. This series will succeed Kamen Rider Gotchard. This new series is filed under the trademark 2024-45708.

The name “Gavv” itself carries an intriguing connotation. In Japanese, “gavu” could be interpreted as a play on the word “gabu,” which means “bite.” This linguistic hint suggests a character or gimmick that might involve biting which is similar to Ryusoulger and Kyoryuger.

Gavv coming from “gabu” actually makes a lot of sense, since the b sound is often used in place of a v when localizing foreign words in Japanese (there’s no ‘v’ sound in the native Japanese alphabet). It could also end up being like Gaim where the spelling itself makes no sense on its own, but it ends up being an unusual pronunciation for a set of kanji. A super tenuous link is that it technically could come from “Kau”, meaning to buy, but the idea of a commerce themed rider seems unlikely. My personal theory is that his full name is Kamen Rider Gavin, but he’s just really chill
