Continuing the story of Yuugo, join us for a review of chapters 4-6 of our hero’s reincarnation story. This time, we have trains, magic swords and spider goblins! You are not going to want to miss this!
Welcome back to Ethan’s Manga corner. We are back to review the next three chapters of Regarding the Destruction of the Destruction Flag as a Result of a Nichiasa-Loving Otaku Being Reincarnated as a Villainous Student. It’s been a little while since the last instalment; do you need to remind yourself what happened last time and don’t want to go reread the first three chapters? You can find a link to my first review for the series here.
Recap
Chapter 4
Picking up where we last left off, Melt Epee asks our hero, Yuugo, to join her on a quest explaining that students do jobs that are posted by locals to give them an idea of what it will be like as a magic knight and to earn some money. The quest in question is a “one day patrol duty by a nearby road.” Phi comes over and remarks how happy he is that his brother has made a friend. Yuugo also is very happy he has made his first friend since reincarnating.
The next day, on patrol, Yuugo and Melt are making small talk about the magic train system and how quiet it is, before they hear a loud noise. It was Melt’s magic communicator – the people at the magic train station – the train they just saw go into the tunnel hasn’t arrived at the station on the other side so the pair decide to investigate the tunnel. While in the tunnel, they use Melt’s magic tool, Sword Ring, to light the way with her energy swords acting as makeshift glow sticks.

When arriving at the train they quickly discover that everyone’s missing and Marcos remarks at what a clumsy partner Yuugo has.
Chapter 5
Marcos quickly explains that he and a subordinate of his were patrolling the other side of the tunnel and came of the other direction to investigate. Marcos takes jabs at Melt and Yuugo, which Melt quickly shuts down by asking why someone as high and mighty as him would take a low ranking travel quest; could it be money issues? As it turns out, Marcos’ parents found out about his duel with Yuugo and took away his allowance. Yuugo takes control of the situation asking if he had seen anyone when coming from the other way and it dawns on the trio that everyone has vanished.
Just then, Yuugo hears a little girl cry out and dashes out of the train to find her unconscious under the train. The little girl, named Mina, wakes up and, after Yuugo and Melt calm her down, she explains what happened to everyone on the train: Magai Beasts took them. After returning to the train cabin that Marcos is in, Melt asks Yuugo to look at a very large spider thread and explains that she found it on Mina’s back. She believe it was from one of the Magai Beasts also that Magai Beasts are monsters born from a dead monster possessing a living monster, creating a fusion of the two.

Marcos returns to the conversation, having checked in with his subordinate, and explains that, judging by what his subordinate found, the exact Magai Beasts they are dealing with are goblins possessing giant spiders; a deduction they reached based on all the spider silk, the fact they would have needed a group to make off with all these people, and that goblins are the only monsters in the area that pirate in groups. Just as Marcos is about to explain that they would have taken them instead of killing them for “provisions and breeding stock,” Yuugo cuts in, telling him that’s not the kinda thing he should be talking about in the presence of a child that had their mother taken. Marcos instantly apologizes.
The gang decide to follow an oil trail made by the monsters in the hopes of saving everyone that was taken. Marcos orders his subordinate to escort Mina to the station and report what happened, and Yuugo promises to save her mum.

The chapter ends with the trio arriving at the den, spotting the passengers and the Goblin Spider.

Chapter 6
Picking right up where the last chapter left off, Melt asks Yuugo if he can see the other Arachlaw and explains that’s the name for this species of Magai Beast. While the two where talking, Marcos has equipped his magic tool and announced himself to the Arachlaw. Yuugo, while originally wanting to do this more discreetly, decides to use Marcos as a distraction while he and Melt free the passengers.
While trying to free the passengers, Yuugo realises the thread can only really be cut by magic, meaning it will take him and Melt way too long to save everyone by themselves. Just then, Marcos gets slammed into a wall by one of the larger Arachlaws and has had his scissor claw webbed shut. Melt and Yuugo are jumped by the rest of the Arachlaws and, just as they are about to touch Melt indecently, Yuugo transforms.

While transformed, Yuugo takes out a number of Arachlaws using his Blaster Dynamic Slash, a move that channels magic into his hand for an enhanced chop. He references Kamen Rider Den-O’s Kintaros while he’s at it.

Leaving the small guys to Melt, Yuugo goes to back up Marcos, browning one of Melt’s swords to help deal with the Arachlaw thread. Marcos rejects Yuugo’s help, getting kneed in the guts and sent flying into a wall, all of which leaves him unconscious. Melt calls for Yuugo to jump and sends flying a tone of magic swords. With only a few left, Yuugo lets off another finishing punch.

As the final Arachlaw tries to escape, Yuugo borrows one of Melt’s blades and performs Kamen Rider Blade’s Rider Kick or, as he calls it, Lightning Blaster. This brings the sixth chapter, the last we are covering today, to a close.

The Good
Pretty much everything I gushed about at the end of my last review is still very much continuing, with one exception – Phi was absent from the quest. I understand why, though, so we could get to know Melt a little better. I cant really complain about that. Speaking of Melt, I have to say, she’s very fun! Her magic swords are cool and her dynamic with Yuugo is enjoyable.
It very much appears that Marcos is going to share a friendly rivalry with Yuugo. Moments like his apology after he was called out for his language around Mina and the way he ordered his subordinate to escort her and treat her with the utmost care show he’s not such a bad guy. It definitely still needs some work but it’s going to be fun seeing how Marcos comes to change as the series goes on.
The Conclusion
I imagine the next chapter will feature Seto reacting to the news Yuugo has already befriended Melt and Marcos but, if anything, we should be seeing Mina reunited with her mother, which will be good to see. Overall, this was a fun, smaller arc that, while not quite over yet, has introduced us to a new character I quite like and fleshed out the funny crab man from before, along with lots of interesting world building like the Magai Beasts and the magic trains.
Only parts of this block of chapters I didn’t really like were the panties shots of Melt. I felt that they were a little much. Also, I’m not a fan of how, well, rapey the Arachlaws are; while they don’t get anymore graphic than what was mentioned in the recap, it’s still not great. I guess the point is to show how serious the stakes are in this situation but it’s still uncomfortable.
Regardless, I’m overall very positive on this series still and recommend you check it out for yourself. Whether you’ve been reading along or are just using these reviews to keep up with the story, make sure you come back next time for another block of chapters from this exciting manga.
