Fans of the lizard kaiju will be happy to hear that Toho will be releasing a new live action Godzilla movie titled Godzilla Minus One. This will be Toho’s first Godzilla movie in a while, the last one being 2016’s Shin Godzilla.
Toho has just released the first teaser trailer for its next Godzilla film: Godzilla Minus One. The plot is, unfortunately, a bit bare bones for the moment. “Godzilla Minus One sees an already devastated post war Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla,” according to Toho.

Godzilla Minus One is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. The film will release in Japan on November 3rd, 2023, just a year after being announced in November 2022 and 69 years to the day after Godzilla’s original release in Japan back in 1954. The movie will hit the U.S. on December 1st.

“Set in a post-war Japan, Godzilla Minus One will once again show us a Godzilla that is a terrifying and overwhelming force, which you already get a sense of from the teaser trailer and poster,” Koji Ueda, President of Toho International, said in a statement. The statement continued, “The concept is that Japan, which had already been devastated by the war, faces a new threat with Godzilla, bringing the country into the ‘minus.’” Godzilla Minus One will be the 30th live action film in Toho’s long-running kaiju franchise.
