SODO Sundays – April 20th, 2025

SHODO fulfils your ‘desire’ to return! Today’s offerings should ‘exceed’ your expectations! Get all the details in April’s lone edition of SODO Sundays!

Good day everyone! Scott here with another and, perhaps, the only SODO Sunday of April 2025! We got an exciting one for you today, as SHODO makes a grand return. That’s right! SHODO has decided to come back, although there are some changes; some good, some not so good. I’ll explain as we go.

So, let’s not waste any time and get stuck in!

SHODO Exceed Kamen Rider #1

It’s a short one today as we’re only focusing on this one set, but sometimes less is more, eh? Last time, we featured some SHODO, it was capping off with SHODO-XX Kamen Rider #10. It was very Kamen Rider Ichigo and Kamen Rider OOO focused.

Now the line has returned as ‘SHODO Exceed’. What does this mean? No idea, but it gives off the feeling of something more grand than previous SHODO lines, that’s for sure. Read on to see what’s expected for the debut set in this revitalised line.

Game set and match! Kicking off this set with a ‘bang’ is none other than Kamen Rider Geats! What an exciting first addition. Having got all the main Riders from Kamen Rider Zero-One through SHODO-XX and SHODO-O, we were only beginning to chip away at the Reiwa iceberg of figures. Geats is a great choice, but fans of either Saber or Revice might find this choice disappointing; fans of the latter especially as this set contains an iconic duo as well.

And what’s this? Compound eyes?! That’s right! The new SHODO Exceed line will be giving Riders their compound eye effects compared to previous iterations of the line that opted to paint them. I’ve always personally saw SHODO as a sort of ‘pocket Figuarts’ line. This just cements that.

On top of the compound eyes, SHODO Exceed will also feature a more detailed paint job compared to previous iterations; weapons will finally have some colour to them, some nice paint effects such as the gradient on the pipes and more paint detail on the belt!

It also gets better! You remember those pesky optional accessory packs? Gone! Finished!! Now our beloved characters get it all in the one pack!

What’s this that comes with Geats? An interchangeable head? That would go so well with…

Kamen Rider Buffa! This absolute confirms the ability to interchange parts. Geats utilising Zombie, Buffa utilising Magnum and such that may get added to SHODO Exceed in later waves.

Here’s everything that comes with Buffa, including the face piece to apply to Magnum. Check out the images below to get some ideas of combinations these two figures can provide you with.

And with that, we move away from Reiwa and back into Heisei for more Kamen Rider OOO…

Included in this set is (I think) the last Kamen Rider OOO form: Tajadol Combo! While it’s nice to finally complete the line of SHODO Kamen Rider OOO, any fans with OCD will likely feel unnerved knowing this figure will have that lovely compound eye effect while their previous figures will have more simply painted eyes. Perhaps they should have added this one to SHODO-XX Set #10.

For Kamen Rider OOO fans, SHODO Exceed continues to deliver with our next addition…

Ankh in their Greed Form finally comes to SHODO!!! The wings also come with the figure.

Ankh’s right arm is completely removeable for all your play and display options, including the little cloth trail piece for that added effect.

The ice lolly hand piece is an awesome addition, but what’s surprising is that the Bandai Candy team also included the broken medal too!

And with that, the first wave of SHODO Exceed comes to an end. Remember when I said there was some good changes and some not so good ones? Yeah, the not so good one was less figures in a set. On one hand, the line has excelled to a higher level of quality and detail. In order to keep the sets at a reasonable price, compromises have to be made.

Personally, I look forward to getting my SHODO Exceed set for the Geats figures and look forward to seeing what comes next in the line. The figures even get nice new box designs which you can see below.

Really putting the eyes on display there, huh? SHODO Exceed is expected to land on Japanese shores in August 2025!

What do you think of the SHODO Exceed lineup? Is SHODO Exceed everything you expected? Who do you hope to see next in the line? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to stay tuned for more YU-DO, SODO, SHODO and even CHODO news here at The Toku Source!
