Wave your wands and magic up some shelf space! Bandai Japan drop another stellar addition to your Minipla Collection.
Good day everyone, Scott here with another hot SMP reveal. Perhaps it’s more of a ‘lukewarm’ reveal as I’m a little late to the party; better late than never I suppose.
Regardless, we start the new year with an explosive reveal of Magiking joining the Shokugan Modelling Project Minipla line. This is likely due to 2025 being the 20th anniversary of Mahou Sentai Magiranger’s debut and what a way to begin! What’s next? A complete Magiranger SHODO Super set? Oh god, I hope so! Make it happen Bandai!
Ahem… anyhow, let’s dive on in…

First mech of the agenda is…
MagiPhoenix

Like the DX original, the SMP version will not only deliver separate mecha but each one will have it’s own range of articulation, putting it ahead of the original DX toy. MagiPhoenix for example, has roughly 24 points of articulation!
MagiPhoenix also has their Phoenix Sword for more play or display options.
MagiTaurus

In comparison to his original DX variant, MagiTaurus now has additional articulation in the upper arms, waist and thighs.
Also…

With this new pin mechanism, you can attach MagiFairy to MagiTaurus to recreate that key moment from the show!
And speaking of MagiFairy…
MagiFairy

Here she is in all her glory! While less articulated than her fellow mecha, her design has been updated for better optimisation in relation to the MagiDragon formation.

The heel design featured in the original DX version has been cut. Also, the wings for the DX version were made of a soft material whereas for the SMP version, they are made with ABS Plastic. This helps the figure to stand on its own, thus negating the need for the heels.
Time to make a ‘splash’ with…
MagiMermaid

A nice new feature within the SMP MagiMermaid is the ability to slot the tail fin pieces into the recesses of the lower tail fin itself as seen below…

Now keep your eyes on the skies for…
MagiGaruda

He’s BIG and he’s ‘yellow’ and somewhere in between is surely a Sesame Street joke one could make. Alas, I am not that creative. Regardless, check out the wingspan on this bad boy; roughly measured to extent to a cool 36cm. Longer than your school ruler for sure!

This feature is made possible with the help of two hinges incorporated into the wing design. The hinge at the tip-end of the wing can be slid to reveal itself. Now you too can recreate the look of ‘flying; with the help of these hinges.
Speaking of flying…

Join together to form the MagiDragon!
Thanks to the added articulation of each mech, MagiDragon will have it’s own range of articulation to strike a pose or two.

Alley-oop!
Just like the the DX counterpart and the movie, MagiPhoenix can ride atop MagiDragon!

But together… they are more!
Join the five MagiMajins together to get what you came here to see: MagiKing!!!
As expected of the SMP Minipla line, MagiKing will have an impressive range of articulation that runs circles around it’s original DX release while sporting an equally impressive wingspan! Below you can see how SMP MagiKing compares to the recently released GingaOh.

Also a few renders to highlight it’s articulation. He’ll definitely be a majestic addition to your collection!

That’s gonna do it for now though! With a new Sentai season on the way, you can definitely expect more Minipla to release this year!
SMP Majin Gattai Magiking is expected to release in June 2025! Plenty of time to get yourself hyped whether you’re a fan of Magiranger or Power Rangers: Mystic Force!
Are you excited for this minipla? Were you surprised by the reveal? What mecha would you like to see in the future? Be sure to leave your thoughts and more in the comments below and stay tuned for more detailed looks at SMP products, here at The Toku Source!
