Veteran tokusatsu actor, Robert Baldwin, was announced to have passed away at the end of 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we at The Toku Source bring you the sad news that another beloved actor and tokusatsu legend has unfortunately passed away. After a two year long battle with colon cancer, Robert Baldwin passed quietly on the December 26th, 2024 .
Baldwin grew up in Hiroshima after being born in Kyoto to Canadian parents. His family returned to Canada when he was about 14 years old, and he completed his education there. In high school, he experimented with performing. He returned to Japan in the middle of the nineties. Before seeing an ad for extras to appear in a television production, he performed odd jobs, such as driving a truck.
Baldwin has many credits to his name including a few tokusatsu roles. Baldwin starred as Gordo in Toho’s Chosei Kantai Sazer-X and made a brief appearance in Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger DELUXE: Abare-Summer is Freezing Cold, among other roles in television series, video games, films, and music videos. Additionally, he appeared in Godzilla: Final Wars and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla in minor non-speaking parts. One of his most famous roles is that of reccurring team member Ramirez (ラミレス), aka Kyoryu Cyan from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger in 2013.
The announcement was made in an obituary posted earlier this week Baldwin’s son. Translated from the original Japanese post, he wrote:
My father, Robert Baldwin, has been battling colon cancer since his diagnosis two years ago. He passed away peacefully on December 26th at the age of 59. At the behest of family, a private funeral was held for close family members on December 30th.
I apologise for this belated notification, as I should have informed you before the new year.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone for their kindness and support towards my father.
I had intended to post this notice through my father’s SNS account but, unfortunately, I was unable to confirm the passwords for his electronic devices and email accounts before his passing. Therefore, I am posting this notice through my own account.
My father was a dedicated worker with a wide circle of friends. I may not be able to personally inform all of his fans and colleagues of his passing. I kindly request that anyone who receives this notice please help to spread the word so that everyone who should know can receive this message of gratitude from my father and his family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Robert Baldwin. Rest in peace, Spirit Ranger, you will be missed.
