The Sentai Summary: Boonboomger #40 & 41 Focus on Morales With Heroes and Football

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, episodes 40 and 41, teaches important lessons from a heroic perspective, followed by a new sports battle. The latest instalment of Boonboomger features another moment for Jou to shine, along with a fight for football.

The hero’s way is highlighted by a Boonboom fan who decides to learn from Jou, providing excellent lessons about making mistakes. This is followed by Spindo’s latest endeavour to corrupt football on Earth. Both episodes deal with the spirit, leading different team members to enter the driver’s seat. More members are affected as Genba and Sakito take part since their love for football sets emotions higher than desired.

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger continues its run as the end of 2024 draws closer, with the final lap passing into the new year. The 49th Sentai series has been revealed as the 50th anniversary celebration, which will premiere after the finale of the current series. Many surprises remain before the final fight against the Hashiryan. This includes the new Red Hero from Gozyuger to appear plus the teased appearance of Gokaiger found in the final lap poster.

The 48th Sentai series continues to develop the characters by highlighting significant morales within the latest episodes. This includes lessons regarding mistakes and even managing anger when your passion is in danger. The team continue to fight Spindo now that he has arrived on Earth, while slow burning instalments add an exciting array of drama and hilarity to each altercation. Each episode contains highlights as the situations provide significant features.

Boonboomger #40 Teaches the Audience About Heroes and Flaws With High Energy

The team encounter a fan who decides to become an apprentice for the day, shadowing Jou. Itsuki Hirose (Kairu Yamamoto) joins as the guest of the episode as he wishes to become a hero like the Sentai he admires. However, the true nature of a hero is missed by the young character as his ideals perfectly align with the new Kurumajyu. The episode also features a pivotal piece of history for BunBlack, along with some technical humour for the Robo battle.

Strange Encounter Makes Appearance

The episode tackles an important perception of heroes as Itsuki becomes the view of the target audience. The beginning starts with a surprising highlight on BunBlue as the child seeks the team member he idolises. It was great seeing the startled reaction of Ishiro after the unexpected reveal of the young character spilt his favourite. It was great to see the following division as everyone aside from Mira and Jou made a quick exit, leaving them with the kid.

We also get to see Bundorio take it easy despite the threat of Spindo, which was with Taiga’s permission. It was a nice touch for Belora to feature again as the team headed out to see the convention for Bundorio. Genba slipping away with Bundorio to escape the kid also showed his quick thinking, creating a laugh from the sudden departure. Although Itsuki didn’t get to shadow Ishiro, it was interesting to see Bunblue still try to hide his identity, a laugh to see Mira rejected, leading to Jou being the Boonboomger to shadow.

Minor Set Up for Factions

Fans get to see a little debrief with Taiga, Sakito, and Byun D when discussing Spindo buying out the BBG. This was a nice show of development as Byun D reveals he will reach out to his cleaner contacts. The moment also established the takeover happening after Byun D left the Grand Prix. Whether this event bears fruit will likely be seen in a later episode, which gives the scene a nice build for the final lap in a later instalment.

We also see the Sanseaters given huge compliments and a raise in rank by their boss, until it was revealed to be a delusion. It was great to see the trio in high spirits, with the hope that their perseverance will be rewarded. It will be interesting to see what happens when they finally meet Spindo, but it was great to see the scene that led to the creation of the Taijyukei Grumer (Bathroom Scale).

Hangup for the Guest

The shadowing of Jou happened as expected with Jou continuing his police duties by random helping people. It was humorous to see him tackle a thief who turned out to be an actor, which he sincerely apologises for. It is during this instance that Itsuki reveals his perception that heroes don’t make mistakes, with Mira instantly leading the concern for his outlook.

Fans are also granted flashbacks in the episode, including Itsuki and Jou. It was astonishing to discover that Itsuki was ashamed of himself for temporarily leaving his brother, which led to him getting hurt. It was an amazing setup that his misconception was due to the guilt of his brother, which perfectly fed into the ability of the new Kurumajyu. We also gained a backstory from Jou about his father, where he also made a big mistake by igniting his father’s police jacket in an attempt to warm it up.

The Truth of a Hero Learnt

Taijyukei Grumer has a great unique ability with the volume of an embarrassing statistic tying the victim down to make Gyahsoline. There were a bunch of humourous uses of the ability as it revealed various flaws and mistakes, including the Mira failed her driving test six times. As a viewer, it was great to discover this fact about Boonboomger’s driver, with Jou also stating that he didn’t think this embarrassing reveal was anything to be ashamed of.

The ability also becomes perfectly linked to Itsuki’s perception of a hero, however, Jou becomes highlighted as the breaker to this unrealistic expectation. BunBlack defied the effects of the mistakes and negative statistics, which truly demonstrated how you shouldn’t let mistakes weigh you down. This included his mistake with his father at the age of 9, whose wise words invoked his spirit to break the bonds cast by the Kurumaju. This was a fantastic lesson to the audience and gave fans a visually stunning hero to root for.

Final Fight and Robo Technicality

The fight involving the Kurumajyu VS BunBlack kept the power behind Jou’s resistance to its ability. It was great to see the team rejoin, with the Champion mode used to end the chaos. BunBlack was given a fantastic moment to shine as he used Patrol Car #1 for a spiked wheel projectile. We also see Champion custom given to BunBlack for the finisher, with a punch being the way to finish the monster.

The Robo fight included the use of the weights theme again, but this time included a humourous use of the Robo’s weight. The weight restriction gave fans a look to see how heavy the Champion formation was, with Bundorio returning to his iconic formation in an attempt to get lighter. However, it was BunViolet who delivered the solution to this problem as he used the ToQ formation again.

It was a laugh to see the technicality of the trains used since the effect was only for the weight of cars. This was a great unique feature of the Robo battle that broke up the usual action. There were also some nice additions to finish the episode, including Genba bringing back gifts for the team. However, the highlight was seeing Itsuki now admire BunBlack with his brother, and seeing the Killer Robo discussion with Taiga’s mentor and the ISA. This added more suspense by adding a little dose of hype towards a bigger instalment.

Boonboomger #41 Over Elaborate Football Awakens Memories for Genba and Sakito

The 41st instalment of the 48th Sentai sees a lot more activity from Waldo Spindo as he tries to claw into Earth’s football. This is the second sports themed episode of the Sentai series, which is established as a passion for two members of the team. The football shenanigans feature in the episode as an additional morale lesson for the audience, along with resistance against the Hashiryan corruption on Earth. The episode also features guest appearances of Jubun Fukuzawa and Hiroto Yoshimitsu, renowned for roles in previous Sentai, KingOhger.

Straight into the Contest

The episode throws us straight into a negotiation between the World Football Association’s (BWCFA) Chairman (Yoshimitsu) and Vice Chairman (Fukuzawa) with Spindo and Risk. During the excited exchange for an agreement, the Boonboomger rushed in to disrupt the deal. It was great how quickly the team reacted to the information that Ishiro discovered.

Although interrupted, Spindo made the objection interesting by hosting a match between the Hashiryan and the Boonboomger. This led to the creation of Football Grumer, which Spindo himself makes. Fans also get some great facts before the match begins, with Genba and Sakito revealed to be linked to Planet Breaki’s galacticly renowned team. Having a great indirect link between Genba and Sakito was a delightful addition, that also becomes a burden through anger and self importance.

Humor and Football Shenanigans

There were a lot of humour features in the episode that included all characters in some instances. This includes the Sanseaters as part of the Hashiryan team, who help a fair amount. In good old Sentai fashion, the match is less than standard as the Football Kurumajyu and Sanseaters use abilities to score goals. This is instantly seen when BunBlack is blasted through the goal and past the fence of the field. Additionally, there is also an odd competition between BunOrange and BunViolet as they try to be the star that scores the goal, leading them to keep tackling each other.

The Sanseaters take direct control of the situation, showing how important teamwork is. Itasha and Yeiyei also gave a surprise with BunPink taking over from Jou, with a switch kick skill that continued to feature more hilarity. On top of the field instances, there were also some great moments between Fukuzawa and Yoshimitsu, including getting the Vice to grab drinks and food with their shenanigans featured. It was great to see the actors used to this effect, bringing further joy and delight to the episode.

Complications and Pursuing Victory

Things started to turn around after Taiga intervened in another collision between Genba and Sakito. It was great seeing the 119 mode used to cool them down, while also thrusting BunBlue to deliver an epic slide-kicking goal. It was smart for BunRed to then switch the clashing members with Bundorio and Byun D, but a close goal instantly causes chaos. Football Grumer reveals his ability to transport and transform the goals around the area, which Byun D even confirms to be normal.

These oddities continued to mount as different areas became the new field, which both teams needed to chase. There were also a lot of guest appearances that followed as the locations changed. This includes suit actors Takahiro Yoneoka & Koji Yoneoka bringing in new tyre goals in a tyre shop and even Rica Matsumoto (Bundorio voice actor) appearing. It was great to see such a wide range of cameos to go with the crazy antics of the episode.

Drama, Joy and Epic Conclusion

The situation is beautifully resolved between Sakito and Genba as Jou returns just as the two get heated again. Seeing them realise their childhood joy has been mixed with the overwhelming desire to protect, has noticeably made them heated. Jou continues to feature the same reasoning as the previous episode, highlighting that staying cool is important while heated. Their affirmation and reconciliation lead to a fantastic development for the final fight.

This includes the Champion mode used by BunViolet for the first time as Jou passes him his jacket after the activation. Along with seeing Rescue Leon and Safari customs like Gaoranger, we see helmetless sequences involving both Satoru Soma and Yu Miyazawa. The football combat was full of hype and the joint jump kick finisher provided a strong and impressive conclusion to the battle.

The Robo fight was then used to decide the winner of the match, which even featured the Mach Robo and 119 mode Robo. The best part of the ending was seeing the Kurumajyu converted back into a ball and the near miss as Spindo gets the ball returned to him. It was an incredible sequence of battles that included drama and humour as part of the package. It was also nice to see the team hyped about soccer and Taiga reaching his hand out to the president and vice president after their loss.

For an unforgettable lesson about overcoming mistakes even as a hero, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger episode 40 a total score of 8 out of 10. For a humous journey to protect football from Spindo’s clutches, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger episode 41 a total score of 7 out of 10.

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger will air Episode 42 on Sunday December 22nd, 2024. The next instalment of the 48th Sentai will feature as Christmas themed episode, in which the Sanseaters try to capture Santa Claus.
