As the crisp autumn air descended upon London, Toku Power Taisen made its grand return to the MCM London Comic Con, this October. With an exciting lineup of community activities, raffles, cosplay contests and even some encounters, this year’s event was one for the ages. Let’s dive into the highlights of this memorable weekend!
Held biannually at the London ExCel Exhibition Centre, MCM Comic Con has become a cornerstone for fans of pop culture, gaming, anime, and more. This October edition drew throngs of enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of fandom. From 25th to 27th October, the venue buzzed with excitement, and Toku Power Taisen was right at the heart of it all toku fans!
Toku Power Taisen: The Main Event
Our Toku Power Taisen meetup on Saturday 26th October 2024 , was a beacon for tokusatsu enthusiasts from across the UK. Hosted by myself (Jay), Ash, Roh, Kezza, Tinashe and Yik, the gathering offered a packed schedule of activities celebrating Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and more.
Cosplayers turned heads with their vibrant and intricate costumes, including a Momoi Taro (yours truly), numerous Power Rangers, Kamen Riders and even some toku original characters. The creativity and passion on display were truly awe inspiring.
But it wasn’t just about the cosplay. This year, our fundraiser aimed to support Black Cultural Archives, reflecting our commitment to meaningful causes, especially to the black community during British Black History Month. With the generosity of attendees and a thrilling raffle of tokusatsu themed prizes donated by various people, we raised an impressive £420! A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who participated and contributed to this initiative.
A Star Studded Surprise: Walter Jones and Karan Ashley
A major highlight of this year’s MCM Comic Con was the appearance of two beloved stars from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers—Walter Jones (Zack, the original Black Ranger) and Karan Ashley (Aisha, the second Yellow Ranger). Fans from all over were thrilled to meet these iconic actors who brought their characters to life on screen.
Walter and Karan engaged with fans through autograph sessions, photo ops or even nice small talk with the fans! Their warmth and enthusiasm left a lasting impression, drawing both longtime fans and newcomers to toku!
The Highlight: Our Photo with Walter Jones

As Toku Power Taisen, we were honoured to meet Walter Jones during the event and capture the moment with a group photo. This encounter was a dream come true for many of us who grew up watching Power Rangers. The photo not only symbolises our love for the franchise but also the incredible sense of community that MCM Comic Con and Toku Power Taisen fosters.
A word from one of the attendees (and fellow Toku Source writer), Scott:
“My first experience of Toku Power Taisen was a very enjoyable one. In Scotland, Power Rangers and tokusatsu cosplay [meets] in general are few and far between; the potential to host even a PR meet is minimal and/or difficult. Not only is the Toku Power Taisen meet well organised but everyone was really friendly and welcoming. The range of cosplays were amazing, with a mix of Power Rangers, Sentai, Kamen Rider (pre and post henshin) and original characters. Hell, even Garo made an appearance! It’s fair to say that Toku Power Taisen was definitely a memorable highlight of my London MCM experience!”
