Why The Power Rangers Desert Will Elevate Super Sentai Further

Super Sentai could see potential growth as Power Rangers lacks presence, without announcements to keep the hype alive. With the live action series’ adaptation in a desert state, awareness gradually increases for its original counterpart.

Bakauage Sentai Boonboomger currently features as the 48th Sentai series, while Power Rangers stopped after its 30th season. As a side effect of this pause, more Ranger fans have encountered Super Sentai’s latest release. This includes discovering clips from the lack of content from its adaptation counterpart. With the hype for the 49th Sentai slowly building, the lack of Power Rangers could aid awareness of the franchise that will soon reach an epic milestone.

Super Sentai is one of the most iconic franchises in tokusatsu, spanning 48 years with new teams released each year. Thanks to Saban, this franchise was able to reach a global audience with the American adaptation, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. However, this only adapted from the 16th Sentai series, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger up to Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, and some series were skipped such as Ressha Sentai Tokkyuger.

Super Sentai ‘Boom’ as Power Rangers Goes Silent

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger awareness increases among the Power Rangers community as news of the Ranger reboot remains silent. Power Rangers Cosmic Fury was the last entry in the franchise – a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the franchise, with global accessibility on Netflix. However, Super Sentai is now being slowly discovered by unaware fans more on social media, which is thanks to the demand for Ranger Hype.

Awareness Trend Happened Before

Although Power Rangers has been running for 30 years, this is not the first time that a deficit has led to greater exposure. During the cancellation and subsequent acquisition of the Power Rangers brand from Disney to Saban, a gap occurred after Power Rangers RPM. This vacancy allowed for Super Sentai to shine past its globally recognised adaptation. Samurai Sentai Shinkenger was the series that was able to breakthrough, thanks to this space. Ironically, the awareness created excitement from fans as they could now see the upcoming adaptation.

Starting with the wish for Shinkenger to become adapted that then became Power Rangers Samurai when it returned. Because of this gap and the exposure created by fans on YouTube and social media, Super Sentai was able to spread awareness. This used the hype created by Power Rangers over the years and Sentai obtained a form of anticipation in return.

This also had a downside to Power Rangers as it created a form of expectation, as seen by Power Rangers Megaforce and Super Megaforce. As it deviated heavily from the story and themes featured in Goseiger and Gokaiger, the Power Rangers fandom called out for better writing than what the kid focussed series provided.

Hunting Trend Now Moves Upcoming Releases

Thanks to fan forums and sites like Rangerboard, fans have the exciting chance to seek out information on the next upcoming Super Sentai series. No 1. Sentai Gozyuger is name for the upcoming 49th Sentai series, which is rumoured to feature a ring based theme that differs from the norm. Fans rampage on social media for any slice of previews, which has shown signs of increasing since a lack of Power Rangers left a void.

Power Rangers is still able to burn thanks to BOOM! Studios and the upcoming video game, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind. However, live action is the main medium that all fans strive to dive into, with Super Sentai feeding this desire. The main two features that have allowed Sentai to establish a greater dominance are the toku inspired anime simulcasts, like Go! Go! Loser Ranger, and the excitement of new gimmicks from an upcoming series. Both have broken the usual language barrier of the past and now the global distribution plan for Toei is set further into stone.

It will be interesting to see just how much power Super Sentai will gather with the next series, especially with the highly anticipated 50th anniversary season to follow in 2026. The Power Rangers franchise did well to keep the momentum going for the 30th anniversary but this empty void left by Hasbro has given Toei a gap to grow. Super Sentai is still airing exclusively in Japan, but this hasn’t stopped fans around the world reaching out to any way of obtaining this tokusatsu Ranger hype.

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger currently features of the 48th Sentai series airing in Japan via TV-Asahi. Official news and reveals for the 49th Sentai series are expected this December, with the first episode expected to debut roughly in March 2025.
