Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger challenges the perception of BunBlue as Ishiro is captured and bonds are put to the test. The 48th Sentai series concentrates further on the spy as an imposter is created from his image.
Boonboomger places a spotlight on Ishiro’s history as a spy as the information broker encounters another agent. The episode features the first Kurumajyu not created by the Hashiryan, as clones are made to attack Boonboomger from within. Bonds are invoked in the episode as the clone attempts to sabotage the team’s technology and make a play for Bundorio. The suspense episode also highlights the threat that poses to the team in the shadows as further developments take place.
Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger has entered its final lap as the series welcomes the boss of the Hashiryan to the story. Many treats are still expected to feature in the remaining episodes of the 48th Sentai, including more Sentai integration. Along with Waruido Spindo, the series has also framed the ISA’s Division Director, Eiichiro Tokoyari, acting against the team. However, the team is now stronger than ever with the Champion mode debut to reflect their unwavering bond with each other.

The 48th Sentai has placed a focus on Ishrio in the latest episode as Yuki Hayama also portrays a clone of the character. Fans are introduced to Sutea, played by Konomi Naito, who is revealed to be a former partner and rival of the spy. The episode features the first Ignition Key used by a human as the Camera Grumer is created by Sutea to infiltrate the Boonboomger base. However, bonds and trust prove to be stronger than anticipated as Ishiro and Taiga are tested.
Ishiro’s Past Revealed More With New Character

The cold opening of the episode instantly draws in the viewers as Ishiro and Taiga fight in the base. It was brilliant that the episode starts with such a potent hook before the story even begins to explain events. This also leads to a surprising debut as a new character uses an Ignition Key, which fans will likely recall being taken by Tokoyari when he hired Ishiro in a past episode. It was thrilling to see this act as Sutea is revealed as Ishiro’s past spy acquaintance.
Sutea instantly establishes a connection with Ishiro, highlighting their work to be a fond memory of the character. It was interesting to know that they also worked against each other but still retained a form of civility that could be mistaken for friendship. The skills of both characters were highlighted, but the Kurumaju trap by Sutea also showcased her ability to deceive and knock out Ishiro. Although Ishiro noticed her presence, it was brilliant to see her use the monster attack to distract and outwit Ishiro.

This was also a great highlight of how Ishiro now acts as a hero rather than staying alert to a wider range of threats, which leads him to be injected by Sutea’s ring. The information broker also highlighted his intelligence by quickly grasping the cause of the situation from Sutea. However, the reveal of her Camera Grumer solidified Ishiro’s suspicions that Tokoyari is a threat that hired her. Even though Sutea’s affiliation didn’t surprise him, her plan did shock him when the clone was revealed.
Team Splintered Interactions

Taiga is finally seen talking about the ISA to Raita Naito and warns him about Tokoyari. It was interesting to see the cut scene of Ishiro reveal the connections to Taiga, but also see Taiga still seem to trust his mentor. Although it doesn’t seem to be the case, Taiga certainly sees Naito as innocent, despite his connection to the ISA. Whether this explodes into a new emissary reveal, has yet to be revealed but it sets up a brilliant fall if heading in that direction.
There is also a bit of substance featured in the episode for other characters. This includes Sakito and Byun D hired to clean up leaves as Bundorio is going shopping. It was great to see the whimsical desire for food and money still take place, with Sakito interjecting into Bundorio’s shopping for food paid by Taiga’s card. The rest of the team also lightly features in the episode but takes a more supporting role. However, we do get to see Mira and Jou practice using the mechanical arms that are used to work on the Boonboom Cars.
First Non Hashiryan Monster is Perfect for Use

The Sanseaters didn’t form the Camera Grumer, but Yeiyei’s ability to sense Kurumajyu was revealed in the episode. It was interesting to see this new feature and for the trio to still have an effect in the episode. Sutea’s choice for a Kurumajyu was perfect and showcased how much thought was likely in the choice. The clone ability was perfect for Sutea to infiltrate as hired, with the ability also used to create havoc for the team and the city.
The bad filter photographs were also a nice laugh and even affected the Sanseaters when they found the monster. Seeing it force the team to fight their duplicates was a great way to escalate the fight after the team beat the Nejiretta. It was fitting that Sakito would get a kick out of the clone chaos, before joining the fight. Using it to create a shift in balance was executed well so that the focus could return to Taiga and Ishiro.
Taiga And Ishiro’s Bond Creates Epic Moment for Combat

The infiltration of the Ishiro Clone creates tension in the episode as it delivers an entrance line to the team and inquiries about Bundorio. The attack from the Kurumajyu quickly moves the event along but Yuki Hayama features a fantastic performance that makes both roles potently distinguishable. Although it seems he is left to his own devices, the tension quickly switches as Taiga returns and reveals he knows Ishiro is fake.
It was brilliant that there were two reasons why Taiga knew it was fake. This was due to the clone asking about Bundorio, which an information broker should know. The explosive attitude the team feel also impacts their outlook as Taiga becomes more aware of their personalities, including reading the clone’s eyes as empty.

The fight previously seen could finally be played in full, revealing the reason for the altercation. The drama of the episode was also so high due to shutters falling as Clone Ishiro tried to add a virus to stop the team’s gear and cars from working. It was a gleeful surprise to see the virus instantly dealt with as Taiga reveals that Ishiro foresaw this possibility. It was astounding to see the level of trust between the two, especially since they have been together since the beginning of the series.
High Hype Action, Dramatic Union and Tense Conclusion

Fans get two magnificent fights that occur at the same time, featuring Clone VS Taiga and Ishiro VS Sutea. Both fights had a similar ferocity but seeing Ishiro dodge Sutea’s shots provided a greater tension due to the relationship. The episode beautifully outlined their faith in each other as the spies tried to cloud their minds with doubt, leading to a great end for both fights. Their entrance into the main fight was fantastic, especially after the trouble the team had against the Boonboomger clones.
The biggest feature was seeing Ishiro and Taiga perform a special duo ‘Boonboom Change’ together. The clashing of the changers was a great way to carry that bond that had been highlighted by the fights that led to their reunion. The fight against the monster also carried the weight of the bond, with the Patrol Car #1 custom missing their comrades and hitting the clones. It was also brilliant to see BunBlue perform the Champion finisher, with his Boonboom handle in gun mode being used instead of a melee weapon.

The Sanseaters also got to play a part of the action as Yeiyei revived the Kurumajyu. The Robo fight was short, but it was great to see the team able to deflect the clone ability before going into the finisher. It was also interesting to see Sutea’s frustration for Ishiro’s choice to be a hero but soon begins to turn as she witnesses their fight. Using this turning moment into a sinister strike was a thrilling turn as Sutea is suggested to be taken out by a mysterious person seen behind her. The moment was elevated by Ishiro finding his planted tracker for Sutea broken, knowing it was her way to warn “Tokoyari is watching”.
For an epic outline of Taiga and Ishiro’s bond in a clone chaos episode, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger Episode 37 a total score of 7 out of 10.
Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger will air Episode 38 on November 24, 2024, exclusively in Japan. The next instalment of the 48th Sentai series will feature a new Yeiyei-like character, Weiwei Yarucar, and the debut of a new Boonboom combination with GoOnger’s Speedor.
