It’s Morphin Time, this Christmas season! Gear up for another retro beat em up featuring everyone’s favourite colourful teenagers with attitude! We’ve got all the latest details.
Developed by Digital Eclipse (TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection and Atari 50th Anniversary Celebration) Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is the new title coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch.
Akin to recent titles like TMNT: Shredders Revenge and Double Dragon: Gaiden, MMPR: Rita’s Rewind seeks to give gamers a fun arcade like romp while utilising an old nostalgic property to give us the videogame we ‘should’ have gotten back in the 90’s. Players will get to kick, punch and jump there way through Putty Patrollers, Tenga Warriors and more, as they traverse through Angel Grove as their favourite Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. The game will also allow online play up to two players and couch co-op for up to four players simultaneously!!!

As revealed by the new trailer, above, players will get to traverse unmorphed around key locations like Ernie’s Juice Bar, interacting with characters and even unlocking little collectable mementos that only the most diehard of fans will recognise from certain episodes.
The trailer also reveals vehicle levels for both the Shark Cycles and Dino Zords. From the small doses of footage, they look to be automated while allowing you to move around and fire, similar to SEGA’s Space Harrier titles. Along with this, we get a glimpse of the Megazord fight gameplay which seems to utilise a First Person perspective as you attack the monster and dodge their blows which isn’t too different from 2017’s MMPR: Mega Battle, albeit this time looking to have a bit more effort put in.
All five core Rangers will be unlocked from the start of the game while everyone’s favourite Green Ranger will be unlocked by completing the story. The new trailer also seems to imply that the Green Ranger will also be a potential boss character. As the game takes place during season one of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this wouldn’t be too surprising.
Despite the revisiting of Season one, MMPR: Rita’s Rewind will follow an all new plot involving Robo Rita from the MMPR: Once and Always Netflix special. Acting as a quasi-sequel of sorts, Robo Rita’s plan to travel through time comes to fruition as she makes it to the point when she was released from the space dumpster back in 1993. While certain areas and moments will be reminiscent from the original episodes, the story will be an all new experience. Whether you grew up with Power Rangers or had a fleeting interest in it, MMPR: Rita’s Rewind looks to be a fun time for fans of all types!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is expected to release December 10th, 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. Preorders are currently available on Steam and Playstation. Save 15% when you preorder!
