Disrace currently features as the new Rebuild Captain, with a storyline linked to the mysterious BunOrange, Genba Bureki. The 3rd Lap has only just begun but much like Lap 2 with the 119 mode, a new mode and large Boonboom Car have been revealed to debut as teased in the arc’s poster.

In addition, the team all send their emotions to their missing member, delivering one of the most dramatic episodes for the series. Disrace also raises the bar as he prepares enhanced Kurumajyu that finally delivers Gyahsoline, just as an old face is revived.
Boonboomger #28 Raises Threat Level as Team Desire Genba’s Return

The 28th episode of the 48th Sentai series has created a big mess of instances, including teasers for upcoming story events. The main features include the empty void left by Genba’s exit, along with unexpected connections between the ISA and Lightning Tech. The episode features the return of Mad Rex’s dog and the new Neon Grumer, which enacts a devious plan from Disrace. Despite Genba’s resistance to return, Jou steps up as he allows his feelings to push forward to victory.
Outcry From Team With Absent Genba

The episode had a great start as the story outlined the gap left behind by Genba’s absence. He has kept himself segregated out of concern for his rage, but it was great to see Jou and Mira do their best to reach out. The episode also included a nice transformation scene as Genbard De Livery II switches back to his human form. However, the approach of Sakito and Byun D shows how deep his hangup seeps, with the Cleaners only offering their services causing Genba to act in a violent expression of anger.
Hashiryan Step Up Their Game

The villains finally display another level up as they provide a lot more challenges in a single episode. This includes Disrace using his abilities to find Mad Rex’s dog, who has survived all this time since the captain’s defeat. This leads to a well planned return of the past collection as the carpet’s energy is used to create an altered Mad Rex, which was a great twist to add to the increased threat.
It was great to see the return of an impactful general, while also giving him a darker twist that changes his composition and memory. It was fantastic to see the team react to his reappearance, while also confusing Taiga for not recognising him for their past rivalry. This is followed by a brilliant new tactic used by the Sanseaters and Disrace as they use the Neon Grumer. This includes a perfect strategy creating Gyahsoline in a restaurant shaped trap, while also finally delivering the fuel, directly via the Space Highway.
Raging Battle As Jou Steps Up

The void is clearly felt in Genba’s absence as it has a tense reaction from Jou when facing the Neon Grumer. This causes a change as Jou switches from his commonly used weapon to adopting the axe mode in honour of Genba. This unleashes the amazing emotional display from Ryu Saito, enhanced with amazing explosive effects. The neon ability that shifts day to night also helps bring great light shows to the visually stunning combat.
It was fantastic to see Jou step forward with his views on Genba but the Axe mode combat demonstrated his view clearer. It was a brilliant feature to add to the episode’s story. In addition, the fight against the giant Neon Grumer with the Boonboomger Robo Police also kept that emotional focus. The attacks and light shows were dazzling to the end, with a great teaser to bait viewers as Ishiro is approached by the ISA director for a cliffhanger ending.
Boonboomger #29 Reveals Layers of BunBlue as a New Faction Presents Itself

The 48th Sentai finally outlines the earliest characters in the series as Ishiro is finally fleshed out with backstory. Disrace continues to deliver potent new Kurumajyu using an odd form of business inspired divination. Viewers also see the first episode’s Aori Family, who tried to force Mira to marry the crime boss’ son. Fans witness a new collaboration as Sakito works with Ishiro on a mission and fights the Gong Grumer that interrupts their task.
BunBlue Finally Fleshed Out

The agent like teammate of the 48th Sentai series is finally given details for the audience to enjoy. This includes his recent mission from the ISA and how he first met Taiga and Bundorio. Ishiro’s task is revealed as his latest job involves infiltrating the Aori Family’s household. It was brilliant to see Yuki Hayama portray the agent that everyone was expecting Ishiro to be, with Sakito and Byun D adding to the event.
However, seeing the flashback to Taiga’s first encounter was the best feature. This includes discovering that Ishiro was originally tasked with entering Taiga’s house to get Bundorio, which was a mission from the ISA. It was great to see this explanation of their past, while also providing a darker background for the ISA that is now taking shape as an additional foe. This instance also highlights the skills that have made him an asset to the team, including his program and hacking skills.
Rule Based Combat with Light Humour

The new hangup from the Gong Grumer was a great change in the combat as he forces a boxing match. Forcing BunViolet and BunBlue to fight without weapons, creating a great new limitation that kept the battle from being one sided. Although the combat felt lighter in this episode, the fight concluded with a brilliant reference to oncoming traffic, relating to the dangers of crossing a two way road. The constant commentary from the Kurumajyu was also a nice way to add humour by annoying the characters with every line during combat.
Setting Up Upcoming Events with ISA and the Hashiryans

Mad Rex was given another moment to divide the team as he stopped BunRed, BunPink and BunBlack from helping. It was great to see the realisation that something was wrong with the villain’s memory. It was also potent that Disrace intentionally left it out as he viewed it as unnecessary. This could be a great buildup to a bigger explosion, especially with the obtainment of an ignition key. Discovering Cannonborg recruiting the Aori Family was a great twist that adds to the third party threat.
The end of the episode outlines this potential new problem for the heroes as Ishiro delivers the key to ISA’s Eiichiro Tokoyari. It’s clear that a new problem will arise as each episode has teased a greater involvement of the ISA with the Hashiryan. This is a great escalated development that will be interesting to see unfold as the 3rd Lap continues. Genba also appearing during the fight with Mad Rex also aided with the outlined divide, proving that the current status quo remains complicated for all protagonists.
Robo Alternative Combat With Expected Results

The robo fight in this episode was generally a concept filler that allowed for the Boonboomger Robo to end the fight. It was great to see a slightly diverse formation using BunBlue’s Boonboom Off-Road with Monster and the Flight mode. There was also a great joke from Sakito as he declared the robo formation’s name as ‘too long’. The shrink and trap ability from the Gong Grumer was at least a little different, but the overall fight felt like a nice minor layer that kept it a Sentai episode.
As a dramatic collision of instance with a team incomplete, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger episode 28 a total score of 8 out of 10. For a great instalment that breaths backstory to Ishiro and a new potential threat for the series, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger episode 29 a total score of 7 out of 10.
