SODO Sundays – July 28th, 2024

Pop some gummies and make way for the first candy themed rider in the candy toy line! Prepare for another Ultra load of new reveals!

What’s up candy toy fans? It’s been a hot minute since the last SODO Sundays but we’re back today with an appetising amount of juicy candy toy intel to sink your teeth into. Coming up is a look at the debut SODO set for Toei’s newest Reiwa Rider, Kamen Rider Gavv. We’ll also be looking briefly at some other candy toy related items to get hyped in time for his televised debut in September! On top of that, we have the latest CHODO Alpha Ultra Monster and Ultraman sets to look forward to.

You know me, I don’t like to wait. Let’s dive on in…

SODO Kamen Rider Gavv #1

Here he is! The new rider himself, Kamen Rider Gavv Poppingummy form! For a candy toy figure, his debut form looks really good; Recreating some armour elements using clear PVC is also a nice touch. The stickers don’t seem too abundant nor difficult and I love the colour mix. I’m personally a little gutted that the ‘premium’ SODO line, that started at the tail end of Geats, ended quickly with Gotchard as Gavv would have been even more amazing under that kind of treatment. Nevertheless, I’m personally excited to get my hands on him!

The concept of Gavv’s SODO line is utilising ‘swappable’ armour. Instead of multiple Gavv figures with different armour sets, each form will be a series of candy themed armour pieces that you can attach and remove to the base Gavv form. If you’re wanting to simultaneously display multiple Gavv forms on your shelves, you’re gonna need many more ‘Poppingummy’ Gavv figures!

Of course, this SODO set will come with pieces to recreate both ‘Punchingummy’ and ‘Kickingummy’ assists.

We also have the potato chip inspired (crisps here in the UK) Gavv form ‘Zakuzakuchips’. This is perhaps my favourite form out of all the ones seen so far, giving Gavv a form that’ll remind fans of popular chips “Pringles” surely!

We also have the less intimating ‘Fuwamallow’ form which reminds me a little too much of the Michelin Man or the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. It also somewhat reminds me of a polar bear, mostly due to the ear like puffs on top of the helmet.

Gavv will also get his main weapon! The Gavvgablade!

We also get one last little bit of Gotchard representation with the main riders final form: Kamen Rider Rainbow Gotchard! Prepare yourself for a heavy evening of applying stickers with this one…

We also get one last little bit of Geats representation! Three Reiwa seasons in one box! Here we have Kamen Rider Buffa’s final form as revealed in Kamen Rider Geats: Jyamato Awakening, Kamen Rider Buffa Plosion Rage!

This form of Buffa also looks to be an afternoon of stickering at a glance. Again, if there was even just one more reason to give us the ‘premium’ SODO treatment, I feel this would have been it. Really great of the Bandai Candy team to give him to us though!

For now, that’s all in regards to SODO Kamen Rider Gavv #1 but here’s a final look at everything included…

As we can see, a couple of boxes have been blacked out, likely to revealed later. There’s also two boxes under Buffa that are completely blank. Surely that’s intentional? I suppose only time will tell if there’s more to get excited about. For now though, there’s plenty to get hyped about in time for Gavv’s debut!

SODO Kamen Rider Gotchard will be releasing this September. The same month as the show! Which is a significant improvement compared to Gotchard last year. Remember to not delay and get your orders in today! See below the article for details.

Kamen Rider Gavv Chocolate Snack

Keeping in the theme of a Candy themed rider, we have these delicious looking chocolate snacks releasing, each containing one small die cast Rider figure…

Measuring at 60mm, these little guys make a lovely little decoration for your desks and/or displays! Make sure to not accidentally eat them, or you could be on your way to impromptu dentist visit.

Not only will Gavv be represented, but so will all main Reiwa riders, as well as some Heisei and Showa riders. Essentially all the main suspects that Toei milk time and again.

No, I’m not angry that there’s no Ghost, shhhhhhhh…

There are ‘allegedly’ 16 types to collect plus a secret figure! I only count 14 so I’m not sure if that’s a typo. The secret figure may very well be Gavv’s ‘Fuwamallow’ form if I was to guess, considering the tie in theme.

There will also be Gold forms of each figure! Will you manage to collect them all?

These will also be released in September and available in cases of 14 packs! Once again, do not delay if you want to avoid disappointment. I need these in my collection!

Kamen Rider Gavv Candy Roleplay Kit

Kamen Rider Gavv brings back the budget candy toy roleplaying kit for your own pleasure!

Of course the Gavv Driver is a no brainer! Whether it’ll have any moving functions is anyone’s guess at this point but it looks like you’ll be able to insert the mini Gochizo included in the set!

The Gavvgablade and Zaku Zaku Gochizo come boxed together! Not sure if the little Gochizo will allow for the transformed state.

Next we have the Gochizo Holder, the Gotchi Speeder and more tiny Gochizo!

Not to miss out on the figure fun, another box will come with a (mostly) static Gavv figure, complete with his Gavvgablade and Fuwamallow Gochizo.

It certainly looks like there will indeed be some function in both the mini driver and weapon! That’s good news for those looking to join the fun at a much more affordable price point!

The Kamen Rider Gavv Candy Roleplay kit is likewise due to release in September. Don’t let it out of your sight and order ASAP to add more Gavv goodness to your collection!

Now we move away from Kamen Rider and straight into…

CHODO Alpha Ultraman #11

We’re back with another Ultra lineup of Kaiju fighting heroes to protect your miniature cities or your favourite toy shelf! We’ll dive right in with the draw of this set as it requires a little clarification to avoid confusion if you’ve been paying attention…

Ultraman Arc! The newest Ultraman of 2024. For those that have been following the last few SODO Sundays, this may seem odd as Arc was also the secret figure of CHODO Alpha #10. Indeed, Bandai Candy are also offering him up again in CHODO Alpha #11. They really want to get Arc into the hands of all fans. The difference here is that this edition of Arc comes with the Arc Finalise effect whereas the previous one didn’t.

An ever popular addition, Ultraman Taro returns to CHODO with a new head sculpt! You’ll need the optional accessory pack to utilise his King Bracelet and hand grips with and without it.

Next up is Ultraman Ace. Like Taro, he also returns to CHODO with a new head sculpt!

Be sure to acquire the accessory pack if you want access to his Ace Blade and Vertical Guillotine!!!

With each CHODO Alpha set comes an upgraded form and for this one it’s Ultraman Nexus’ Junis form! Like the previous two, he returns to CHODO with a new head sculpt!

It’s quite a testament to the CHODO design when all they need is new heads for a revamp. For the Over-Ray Schtrom piece, you’ll need to acquire the accessory pack!

With that all said and done, lets get a look at what’s inside said-accessory pack…

The Bandai Candy team have chosen to hide one of the accessories. Who wants to bet it involves Ultraman Arc?

CHODO Alpha Ultraman #11 is scheduled to hit release in November 2024. Be sure to get your orders in if you want to add this to your growing Ultra collection!

And with heroes comes monsters not far behind…

CHODO Alpha Ultra Monster #3

The recently added CHODO Alpha Monster line seems to be doing well enough so far, taking the monster(s) from the main CHODO Alpha Ultraman set and giving them their own spotlight. As one set releases, the other follows with monsters related to the other set’s Ultras.

First up is Tyrant who makes their CHODO line debut with a fantastically detailed sculpt. Recreate your favourite moments by also acquiring the upcoming Ultraman Taro!

The Ultraman Taro love doesn’t stop here as we also have Alien Temperor who returns to CHODO with a much deeper and more accurate blue colouring! We love a goofy looking alien, especially when he/she/it has crustaceous hands!

Next we have Alien Magma. This one returns to CHODO with new colouring in the eyes. A ruthless foe to face your Ultraman Leo and Ultraman Seven in CHODO Alpha #10!

Lastly we have Ace Killer to face…(you guessed it)…Ultraman Ace! Don’t make him slap Ace with his ‘BIG’ hand!!!

That’s all for now regarding CHODO Alpha Ultra Monster #3, which is due for release in November alongside CHODO Alpha Ultraman #11. Get both sets ordered ASAP for hours of posing and play!
