Release Details

The teaser was unveiled online, shortly after the recent broadcast of season 1’s finale. To commemorate the announcement, anime director Keiichi Sato posted a celebratory illustration of Fighter D and Red Keeper to his X (formerly Twitter) account, thanking the fans for their continuous support of the show.

Stage Performance

As if the announcement of a second season wasn’t exciting enough, Go! Go! Loser Ranger!, like any good traditional Sentai, is stepping into the world of live action with a stage performance! The show will be following in the footsteps of its Super Sentai predecessors, by debuting at the Theatre G Rosso, home to most tokusatsu theatrical performances, in Tokyo Dome City.

Familiar Faces

To the delight of tokusatsu fans, Loser Ranger’s stage play is bringing the worlds of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai back together again (for the 4th, or 5th, time?), with veteran actors from both franchises joining the production.

Cast announcements include Yuya Tominaga, previously having portrayed the delightfully moody and flamboyant Sonoi in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers, who is playing the lead role of Fighter D in the show. Alongside him is Naoki Takeshi, Takuro Mogi in Kamen Rider Drive, donning the costume of Red Keeper for the performance and taking centre stage in the promotional poster released for the play.

Other returning Sentai and Rider actors include:

  • Marupi (Dahlia in Mashin Sentai Kiramager Spin-Off: Yodonna the FINAL) as Yumeko Suzuriki
  • Hayata Seki (Oteca in Kamen Rider Revice) as Shun Tokita
  • Kenichi Sato (stunt actor in Kamen Rider Ryuki, Den-O) as Green Keeper
  • Akihiro Hosokawa (stunt actor in Shinkenger, Gokaiger) as Yellow Keeper
  • Nana Hayashimoto (stunt actor in Kamen Rider Zero-One, Revice) as Pink Keeper

It’s wonderful to see Loser Ranger’s foray into live action bring with it so many established tokusatsu performers, as well as paying homage to the thrills and excitement of the stunt work that goes into these shows, by including long time stunt actors of both Kamen Rider and Super Sentai.

What is Go Go Loser Ranger?

Originating as a manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump Magazine, creator Negi’s Haruba dark reimagining of conventional Sentai flicks tells the story of the Divine Dragon Keepers defeating the Villainous Army of Evil 13 years ago. The surviving foot soldiers were forced to reenact their defeat, every Sunday, in front of cheering crowds, ever since. As such, one disgruntled minion, Fighter D, rebels and vows to defeat the Dragon Keepers by infiltrating their organisation.

“Sentai Daishikkaku” was first published in February 2021 and is currently ongoing. The anime adaption would follow, airing its first episode in April of 2024, having concluded its first season in June. With the diverse range of Loser Ranger media releasing so soon after the anime’s first season, it’s shaping up to be another great year for the series.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! will air its second season in 2025, while all of season 1 is available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu. The stage performance will be shown at Theatre G Rosso, in Tokyo Dome City, running from September 11th-16th, 2024.
