It’s ‘Game On’ for more candy toy Rider figures! Level up your Kamen Rider Ex-Aid collection with the newest addition to SODO Chronicle!
Good day everyone! Scott here with another entry in SODO Sunday; albeit, a smaller edition than what we’re usually used to as we only have one contribution to make today: SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Ex-Aid!!!
That’s right! Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, the series that essentially kicked off the ‘SODO’ line (despite previous Rider candy toys) is now getting its due in the SODO Chronicle line. The Bandai Candy team left us with a teaser image last week, now we get to see the full initial SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Ex-Aid set!
You know me though, I don’t like to hang around when we have cool new figures to show ya’ll, so lets dive on in!

We have to start with the title character himself! Ex-Aid is here with all new moulding, new detailing and new articulation!

Need a side by side? The Bandai Candy team were happy to oblige in showing us the evolution of the Ex-Aid rider’s improvement from their original candy toy releases! Those who have been collecting SODO from before Kamen Rider Saber will have noticed the SODO figures’ increase in height too! They used to rival the SHODO series in scale but that’s no longer the case on top of the massive improvements the line has seen in the last half decade.

The Bandai Candy team have also revealed that there will be no optional accessory pack with this set!!! That’s right, you now get the weapons and alternative accessories with the character! Whether that’ll continue to be the case for future sets hasn’t been stated, but here’s hoping!

Next up is the secondary rider himself: Kamen Rider Brave! There’s nothing he can’t cut!

With each of these new figures, please note the addition of more stickers and level of detail! It’s still crazy how far this line has come and part of that success is down to fans like ourselves who can’t get enough of these tiny guys.

They’ve added a nice simplistic feature to Brave’s weapon, allowing you to switch between ‘Flame Sword Mode’ and ‘Ice Sword Mode’ by rotating the blade piece! Ingenious!

Now we move on to the brooding bullseye shooter: Kamen Rider Snipe! Probably one of my personal favourite designs among the Ex-Aid Riders.

Another comparison! I never noticed until now that the colouring of the figures has also been improved but you really notice it most with Snipe. He also looks to utilise the most stickers thus far.

His iconic cloak has also been given a ball joint as to not hinder any posing. The ‘cloak’ shoulder piece is also being given a two stage joint so you can move it a smidge for posing. The design is being tested at the moment but I’m confident the team will pull it off well. Of course his Gashacon Magnum is included with both it’s ‘Handgun’ and ‘Rifle’ modes.

Next up is Kamen Rider Laser! He’s a Bike, he’s a Rider, he’s a conundrum! Nevertheless, he gives you a vehicle right out of the set, which is better than the last few SODO Chronicle sets where the bikes have been a separate purchase.

Regardless, he’s still a person! A major character in the plotline of Ex-Aid’s season. Like the rest, he’s had a pretty great glow up.

There is seemingly a rotation axis in Laser’s head that allows for some movement, albeit minimal! He pairs great with Ex-Aid!
Now, on to everyone’s favourite CEO with a god complex…

Kamen Rider Genm! The CEO of Genm Corp. Dan Kuroto and arch nemesis of Ex-Aid. He also has the better colour scheme in my personal opinion.

Of course Genm overall shares the same design as Ex-Aid, so the advancements here are more or less the same. It’s still cool to see though!

As expected, Genm will come with his Gashacon Bugvisor for both it’s ‘Beam Gun’ and ‘Chainsaw’ modes.

Another thing to note is that the old support pedestal is now being replaced with these platform ‘shin’ pedestals. The Bandai Candy team states that it is the cause of both the rising fluctuation of the Yen and rising costs of materials. At least they haven’t removed them altogether!
Also, the team chose to directly give us the ‘Level 2’ forms of these riders as it would have been underwhelming as a set to get the ‘Level 1’ forms. I’m personally fine with this, as they’ve already been done well enough in the original Ex-Aid SODO sets.
That’s gonna do it for now folks! SODO Chronicle Kamen Rider Ex-Aid is expected to release November 2024!
Don’t forget, this set can all be secured with The Toku Source via special order. Email us at contact@thetokusource.com or reach out on social media to place your order. Make sure you don’t miss out everybody.
