After more than two years in development, the fabled Power Rangers reboot has lost its connection to the Morphin’ Grid!
We finally have an update on the long awaited Power Rangers reboot and, once again, it seems to be bad news for the brand, as it appears Netflix will not be moving forward with the reboot. In an article recently published by TVLine, it is reported that Hasbro is looking in a new direction with the reboot and is looking to redevelop it with a new creative partner.
A Power Rangers reboot was set to be developed by Jonathan Entwistle and Jenny Klein as executive producer and showrunner, respectively, with the former set to oversee both film and TV projects, calling it a “Power Rangers Cinematic Universe”.
Hasbro had purchased Power Rangers from Haim Saban’s Saban Brands back in 2018, with then CEO Brian Goldner planning to revitalise the brand with new toys for both kids and collectors alike, as well as continuing the show via Hasbro’s “Allspark Pictures” production company. After producing three new series – Power Rangers Beast Morphers, Power Rangers Dino Fury and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury – as well as a one off straight to Netflix special – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always – production shut up shop in New Zealand, supposedly to focus completely on the rebooted product.
Personally, I’m scared for the future of the franchise, as it appears that Hasbro doesn’t seem to care about it anymore. Earlier this year, they ceased production of in-house Power Rangers toys and announced that they had granted the principle toy license to Playmates, with their first toys expected in 2025. Now, with the reboot all but cancelled, the future of the franchise is uncertain. Will it bounce back like the previous times of uncertainty? We’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? What do you think will be the future of the reboot, and by extension, the Power Rangers franchise? Let us know in the comments below. Until next time, this is Sean, signing off once again.
