With another springtime rapidly evaporating, Toku Power Taisen returned to MCM London Comic Con with community activities, raffles, cosplay contests and more.
MCM Comic Con in London is a biannual event that serves as a vibrant hub for pop culture enthusiasts, gamers and comic book fans from around the globe. Held at the London ExCel Exhibition Centre, this year’s spring edition, from May 24th to May 26th, 2024, was no exception. The convention was a spectacular showcase of fandom, creativity and community spirit, drawing in a massive crowd of attendees eager to experience the excitement and camaraderie that MCM Comic Con is known for. MCM Comic Con: A Biannual Pop Culture Extravaganza
Twice a year, the London ExCel Exhibition Centre transforms into a innovative palace for fans of all things geeky. MCM Comic Con London has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most prominent pop culture events, featuring an array of activities, including celebrity guest panels, gaming, artist alley and cosplay contests. This year, the convention boasted a stellar lineup of guests, including the renowned voice actress and Power Rangers Hyperforce star Christina Vee.

Christina Vee: A Highlight of MCM Comic Con

One of the major highlights of MCM Comic Con May 2024 was the appearance of Christina Vee, known for her role as the Hyperforce Black Ranger in Power Rangers Hyperforce. Christina’s presence attracted a large number of fans eager to meet her and get autographs. Her panel was a memorable event where she discussed her experiences working on the show, her career in voice acting and other projects she is involved in Christina’s enthusiasm and charisma were palpable, making her one of the most beloved guests of this year’s convention.
Christina also spoke about her broader career in voice acting, which includes roles in popular anime series such as “Miraculous Ladybug” and “Duck Tales.”
Toku Power Taisen Meetup
Among the various events and meetups at MCM Comic Con, the Toku Power Taisen meetup on Saturday, May 25th, stood out as a unique gathering for fans of tokusatsu. Hosted by Myself (Jay), Ash, Roh, Kezza, Tinashe and Yik, this meetup brought together enthusiasts of series like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and other tokusatsu shows. The event was a celebration of the genre, featuring a plethora of activities that engaged and delighted attendees.
Toku Power Taisen is the UK’s largest toku fan meet up. This event offers a fantastic opportunity for tokusatsu fans to gather, cosplay and celebrate their shared passion. Toku Power Taisen embraces the enthusiasm of the tokusatsu community, welcoming fans of all generations. Attendees can immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Japanese tokusatsu, enjoying shows like Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman. Toku Power Taisen is an event not to be missed, offering fun and camaraderie in the world of heroes and monsters.
The meet up saw an impressive turnout of cosplayers, showcasing creativity and imagination. Among the notable cosplays were characters such as myself as Don Momotaro, numerous MMPR Red Rangers, lots Shin Kamen Rider cosplayers and many more! The dedication of these cosplays were on full display, adding a vibrant and colourful dimension to the meet up.
One of the most commendable aspects about the Toku Power Taisen meet up was the charitable initiative. This year we aimed to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians, a cause that resonated deeply with many attendees. Through various fundraising activities, including a raffle with toys donated by various people, the meet up successfully raised a total of £600! We would like to extend gratitude to everyone who attended the event and those who contributed to Palestine!
The raffle was a major highlight, featuring a wide range of prizes that excited attendees. Toys and collectibles from popular tokusatsu series were up for grabs, generously donated by fans and members of the community. The raffle tickets sold briskly, and the draw was conducted with much anticipation and excitement. The joy of the winners was palpable, and the collective effort towards a noble cause added a sense of fulfilment and purpose to the event. Attendees stood in anticipation throughout the raffle. With their eyes beaming with hope to have their ticket drawn for a chance to claim heaping prize box. Excitement filled the air as their numbers were announced and lucky winners were rewarded with exclusive merchandise such as trinkets, collectables and other nicknacks!
Exciting Activities and Competitions
The Toku Power Taisen meetup was packed with engaging activities that kept attendees entertained throughout the day. One of the highlights was the cosplay competition, judged by the Toku Power Taisen team. The competition showcased a wide array of impressive costumes, each reflecting the passion and creativity of the cosplayers.
The grand prize for the competition was a Geartlingler from Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, awarded to the winner, dr_ouroboros, whose immaculate Garo cosplay demonstrated exceptional attention to detail. Other notable winners included an Izu (Kamen Rider Zero One) cosplayer, an original character Shodan Runner and a Shocker cosplayer. Each winner received recognition for their outstanding cosplays!

Overall, Toku Power Taisen was a huge success. Attendees surely got the richest experience with all of the activities, the meetups, and the spectacle. The Toku Power Taisen meetup was also one of the most exciting ones, so big congratulations to the fans for putting together this delight. The fundraiser and the various missions have shown the best things about tokusatsu fandom at cons. Most importantly, Toku Power Taisen created a great memory and community for the attendees. We hope to make some noise and show that there is a strong tokusatsu fanbase in the UK!
