Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger Episode 12 showcases a flawless Go-Onger crossover, featuring Engine Speedor and Go-On Red. The recent release for the 48th Sentai series brought in the 32nd Sentai for a fantastic mashup.
Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger features the latest Booming Machine Powered team, featuring various road based mecha. Engine Sentai Go-Onger was the closest predecessor with a similar theme, which featured a mix of vehicles for the team. The 32nd Sentai series aired from 2008 until 2009 but was able to continue its story with features in the 35th Sentai, Gokaiger. The 10th anniversary also featured the movie Engine Sentai Go-onger: 10 Years Grand Prix, which established Speedor and BearRV as married.
The episode features a great mix of characters while keeping to the current episode formula as another superhero joins the fight. As the Hashiryan continue their collection of Gyahsolin, a surprise deliver is given to the team as Speedor seeks a reunion with Sosuke. With a predecessor twist, the latest instalment brings two vehicle themed teams together for the first time.
Boonboomger Goes Go-On Mad with a Perfect Episode Integration

Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger features an early crossover with their predecessor as Go-Onger is integrated into Episode 12. The episode features the return of Yasuhisa Furuhara as Sosuke, along with Daisuke Namikawa voicing Speedor. Fans were also treated to the debut of Geta Grumer, with his ability to replace footwear with Geta. However, the silly vibe is given a serious twist with Cannonborg’s alteration, which perfectly syncs with the balance of humour and seriousness that the Go-Onger guest brought to the episode.
Seamless Mix Of Machines

The episode has a fantastic backtracking moment as Speedor is discovered by Taiya. It was revealed that Cannonborg’s entry to Earth featured a collision with the iconic Go-On character, causing Speedor to go into his dormant size. The new Geta Grumer seemed tame in the episode but the mod ability of Cannonborg was smart to change a silly foe into a troublesome one. His 100ton mod allowed for Go-On Red to really show how determination can lead to high octane power. Providing an excellent show of Sentai hype for both the audience and the new team of heroes.
Go-On Humour Still Works in Boonboom

The very beginning brought in a new delight as Cannonborg jumpscares the Sanseaters with perfect timing. This would be a great trend if kept throughout the series while the new general is active. Although more of a comedic Sentai compared to most, the episode did a great job of meshing the characters together. This includes bringing that iconic Sosuke flavour that still highlights him as a hero.
Yasuhisa hasn’t lost his flare, and it was great to see his comedic personality shine through. It was also great to see him introduced with Jou as finding the kid’s mother with a coin toss gain a brilliant reaction from the serious, yet comedic character that Ryu Saito portrays. It was also a nice little joke how Sosuke refers to BunRed as “Boonboom Red”, which is a funny yet brilliant name convention point that was never spoken.
High Octane Action Fits In

The style of Go-Onger was still present even with the latest Sentai special effects. It was great to see the team use their finisher with Go-On Red and still maintain a difference in aesthetics. There was some fantastic action also from the entire stunt team as there were many skilful fight scenes. BunOrange and BunBlue stood out the most with fantastic tricks and choreography that kept Boonboomger shining even while with an iconic addition to the episode.
Amazing Robo Teamwork Fight

The Highway Space features Yeiyei having the great misfortune of facing a great addition as Engine Speedor joins rides with Boonboom Trailer. In such a short duration, we get to see a great comparison and some great features from Speedor such as his flight ability. It was brilliant to include these special features that make this iconic series stand out compared to its younger sibling. It was also effectively used to quickly change the road battle to the Robo combat scenes.
The big surprise was seeing Engine-Oh appear as Buson and BearRV join in the fight. It was revealed by an episode guide that Toei no longer keeps the suit, so CGI motion capture was used to bring back the mecha thanks to Butsuda from the Special Effects Research Institute. The episode ensured that there was exciting original combat, including a three legged strike to counter the Kurumajyu’s effect and the giant wheel formed by the two robo linked together. The finisher was also given a great integrated finale, delighting many fans with such amazing visuals.
Concluding with Surprise Nostalgia

Many different nostalgic scenes were included in the episode, which often included reused moments from the 32nd Sentai. This includes the callout pose from Go-On Red inserting the Engine Soul, bringing out Speedor to full size, and even combining and abilities from the series robo. The quality did stand out on some of these, but the Engine Gattai still had great enough quality to fit in well.
However, the best kick was a reference to Engine Machfalcon, the son of Speedor and BearRV from Gokaiger, who was revealed to be getting married. It was brilliant to have this reason for the Go-Onger crossover that explains why Speedor entered the human world again. This was a great way to end the episode and it would be curious to see if this union could make an appearance in the future.
For a brilliant and smooth Go-On integration in Boonboomger’s story, in such a short amount of time, we give Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger a total score of 10 out of 10.
Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger will continue with Episode 13 on Sunday May 26th, 2024. The 48th Sentai series exclusively airing in Japan will debut a new Boonboom Car for the release, Boonboom Safari.
