A Closer Look at the Boonboomger Supercar Campaign

The Boonboom Supercar is the latest in a line of exclusive Super Sentai items to get a campaign release in Japan. What is the Supercar? What does it do? Is it worth tracking down?

With any Super Sentai series comes new gimmicks! In recent years, for both Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, we are usually treated to one of said gimmick items prior to the series airing. Sometimes you can straight up purchase the items but, on the flip side sometimes, Bandai and Toei like to have fun with the fandom and give us “quests“.

This year, the item for Boonboomger was the Supercar, BunRed’s personal car.

How To Get It

The campaign officially started on March 2nd, the day before Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger premiered in Japan. In order to get this item, you could do it one of two ways. The first way, for children only, (you needed to be a student in school or younger) was to say the password “Boonboomger!” at participating toy stores, whilst stocks lasted.

The second way, intended for the adult collectors, was to follow a Bandai Sentai account on Twitter and play a game in which you would need to get a screen shot of a specific word and, then, post it to Twitter with the hashtag #boonboomsupercarget. This was only for ten people so the chances were slim.

The Car Itself

This is a gashapon style build it yourself kind of deal, so there’s no packaging to look at per se. There is a little bit of sticker work to do once the car is assembled but it’s simple enough to do.

The Boonboom Super Car can be equipped to the Dx Boonboomger Robo, the hood opens to reveal a small cannon and it will also play original sounds by attaching it to the changer.

Sound wise, you don’t get much, unfortunately. When you insert the car into the Changer, you will hear the phrase “Boonboom Supercar!!” and when the trigger is pressed it will shout “Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger.” That, though, is literally it.

In summary, if you are a diehard collector and love the Boonboomger line so far, my advice would be to try the aftermarket for this. You could also contact The Toku Source for help in finding this item but, due to its rarity, don’t expect to may usual Boonboom Car prices for it. That said, it doesn’t add too much to any of the current toys and, other than just being a cool representation of BunRed;s personal car in the show, it’s not an essential item to own.
