An avid enthusiast of all things Donbrothers, join Jay as he talks about his experiences with and reviews the Memorial Edition Zanglass Sword from Avataro Sentai Donbrothers.
The Avataro Sentai Donbrothers Zanglass Sword Memorial Edition is a captivating addition to Bandai’s distinguished line of toys, catered explicitly for adult collectors within the Super Sentai community. This exclusive series, initially launched in the DX lineup, pays homage to iconic weapons and gadgets from various Super Sentai series. Taking the spotlight in this review is the Zanglass Sword, the personal weapon of the charismatic Don Momotaro.

The Memorial Edition toys exemplify Bandai’s unwavering commitment to providing adult collectors with meticulously crafted pieces that celebrate the rich history of Super Sentai. Beginning with the VS Changer from Lupinranger VS Patoranger, these releases distinguish themselves by not only presenting improved accuracy in visual appearance and size but also by incorporating additional features. These include snippets of background music (BGM) from the respective shows and memorable lines from the cast, enriching the overall collector’s experience. The forthcoming Memorial Edition of the Ohger Calibur from KingOhger further heightens the anticipation within the enthusiast community.

Bigger is Better
The Zanglass Sword, a visually striking sunglasses themed katana, wielded by the valiant Don Momotaro, serves as the focal point of this Memorial Edition. In its DX release, the Zanglass Sword toy, measuring approximately 50cm, emerged as a captivating blend of aesthetics and functionality. The inclusion of multiple full colour LEDs along the blade amplified its visual appeal, creating a spectacle that, while slightly smaller than its on screen counterpart, manages to captivate collectors with its intricate design. The interactive nature of the toy comes to life with various lights and sounds that seamlessly synchronize with specific techniques, enhancing the overall immersive experience. Notably, the toy allows for infrared interlocking with the DX Don Blaster, opening the door to a plethora of unique special moves triggered by the Avataro Gear read by the blaster.
The Memorial Edition of the Zanglass Sword represents a significant leap forward in collector satisfaction. A remarkable 140% increase in size brings this katana closer to its on screen dimensions, effectively bridging the gap between the physical and fictional realms. Bandai’s commitment to authenticity shines through as design elements from the Donblaster and other Memorial Edition releases are seamlessly incorporated. Unsightly screw holes are eliminated and a hidden battery compartment is integrated, staying true to the show’s aesthetics. Enhanced LED lighting further refines the Zanglass Sword’s visual accuracy, elevating it to a status of must have within any Super Sentai collection.

Interactive Features
The playable features of the Memorial Zanglass Sword are taken to the next level when utilised in conjunction with the interlocking infrared feature on the Memorial Donblaster. This unique pairing unlocks twelve special attacks for each Sentai team post Gokaiger, delivering an exclusive and immersive experience for fans. The lights look immaculate when flashing each colour of a legend Sentai.

Adding to the allure is the inclusion of a bonus Don Onitaijin Gear, not only unlocking special sounds when used with the Memorial Zanglass Sword and Memorial Donblaster but also infusing an extra layer of uniqueness to the set.
Bonus Inclusions and Striking Visuals
Moreover, the Memorial Edition includes three BGM soundtracks, namely Tsuki Nomizo Shiru, Sakuretsu! Hissatsu Ougi!!, and Tokiniha Butsukari Au Koto Mo.
When seeing the box of the Zanglass Sword, I was met with two contrasting photos on each side. One with a vibrant picture of the entire Donbrothers team behind Japanese watercolour inspired background and the other showcasing Don Momotaro holding the Zanglass sword behind a black background similar to the show!

Worth the Expense?
The Memorial Zanglass Sword proves to be more than just a collector’s item; it offers a genuinely enjoyable and immersive toy experience. While I did not have the opportunity to possess the DX release, the Memorial Edition’s size and design are undeniably impressive. Pairing the Memorial Zanglass Sword with the Memorial Donblaster unlocks a treasure trove of lights and sounds, providing a nostalgic journey through Super Sentai history.
If one were to suggest an improvement, a minor enhancement in the volume of the sword’s sounds could elevate the overall experience. Nevertheless, the Memorial Zanglass Sword stands as a must have for Donbrothers Fans, seamlessly combining visual accuracy, interactive features, and exclusive content to create a truly unique and enjoyable collector’s item.
