Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Gets a Second Trailer

With the new release date of March 29th fast approaching, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire reveals a second trailer, showing us how much of a threat Skar King will be towards the Monsterverse!

Picking up from the events of Godzilla vs. Kong, the trailer starts with a voice saying that we thought life could only exist on the surface of our planet, which Godzilla vs. Kong proved was wrong. Just how wrong is demonstrated in the newest trailer, with scenes of a huge group of ape like Titans being led by Skar King.

Godzilla and Kong

Godzilla and Kong are going to have to put aside their ancient rivalry and work together in order to stop this new threat. We get a decent look at their exploits in the newest trailer, that will be returning us to Hollow Earth. We also get more of Godzilla’s new Evolved form, with the pink dorsal fins, and Kong gets a new arm, sort of. Here are ten major points from the new trailer.

Skar King

10: Godzilla and Kong have a desert rematch in Egypt!

While Legendary is making no effort to conceal the fact Godzilla and Kong will be teaming up in this latest Monsterverse entry, it has been confirmed that things won’t be starting off smoothly between them. There is at least one fight shown in the trailer between Godzilla and Kong. This was shown when Godzilla, in all his new pink splendour, is shown blasting through a pyramid using his atomic breath while trying to hit Kong. With Godzilla looking to be in his strongest form to date, Kong’s odd of winning this rematch aren’t great.

9: Kong’s B.E.A.S.T Glove has electric based powers!

Godzilla isn’t the only Titan receiving a power-up in this film. As was confirmed by toy leaks and the first trailer, Kong will be getting a new armoured gauntlet, called the B.E.A.S.T Glove. Thanks to the new trailer, it looks like the gauntlet will have electric based powers. This means Kong will finally have a way to access his lightning attacks, like in King Kong vs. Godzilla from 1962. Kong hasn’t been able to shock anyone with his punches for some time but it looks like the B.E.A.S.T Glove will be fixing that.

8: Godzilla has a blue powerup!

On top of his pink “Evolved” form, it looks like Godzilla will be getting a new blue look as well. In the trailer, Godzilla is shown with blue veins running all over his body, way more than when he charges the atomic breath. It does appear to resemble his Burning Form from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, with the main difference being what colour he’s glowing. This looks like to line up with what director Adam Wingard promised, that there will be “lots of different versions of Godzilla.”

7: Jia is having visions of Skar King!

According to Dr. Ilene Andrews, played by Rebecca Hall, Jia has a connection to Skar King and Shimu, the upcoming threat. Not only is Jia able to talk to Kong via sign language but it looks like she can now sense danger. How this has happened has yet to be explained but it is a useful ability.

6: The New Empire has named Kong’s species!

Dr. Andrews can be heard during the trailer saying that Great Apes were once the protectors of humanity. It has been assumed that Titanus Kong was the name for Kong’s species but now it looks like that name is unique to just Kong. It looks like Great Ape is a blanket term for Kong, Skar King and all the other gorilla Titans that appear in the trailer.

5: Skar King’s weapon is a whip!

The trailer does a lot to show just how much of a threat Skar King will be against Godzilla and Kong. It turns out that the bone belt around Skar King’s chest is, in fact, a whip! The trailer shows us scenes of Skar King using this bone whip against Kong in, at least, two fights.

4: Skar King wants a war!

Trapper, played by Dan Stevens, has described the newly detected signal in the trailer as a call for war. This line, along with the Great Apes gathering in Hollow Earth, hint at a possible onscreen Titan War. It was revealed in previous Monsterverse films that Godzilla and Kong’s ancestors were recorded as having been in a war over a thousand years ago but nothing of the sort has happened on screen yet. With Skar King leading an army of Great Apes, Godzilla and Kong may just need some allies of their own.

3: Godzilla reuses his Nuclear Pulse attack!

Near the end of the trailer, Godzilla is shown discharging a massive amount of blue energy in a form of pulse or bubble, similar to his burning form attacks in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is how he was able to defeat Ghidorah. With how similar the two attacks are, it looks like Godzilla has learnt how to do this attack on command, which makes the atomic lizard a lot harder to deal with.

2: Shimu attacks Kong!

Skar King isn’t the only new Titan making an appearance in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, as Shimu also appears in this trailer as well, most notably when he attacks Kong in Hollow Earth. With Shimu being bigger than both Kong and Godzilla, is he the true villain of Godzilla X Kong?

1: Is there a chance that Mothra will return?

If you pause the trailer at around the 30 second mark, during Jia’s vision, you can see what looks like Mothra refelcted in her eye. Mothra appearing in this way is a huge tease for the possible story. Mothra was teased to return during the credits for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, when a newspaper was shown reporting on a mysterious egg having been discovered, which fans will know is how Mothra revives herself if she dies. If she is making a return, she could just be the ally Godzilla and Kong need in the possible Titan War.

Is Mothra making a return?

The official description for Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire reads as follows: “The epic battle continues! Legendary Pictures’ cinematic Monsterverse follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new adventure that pits the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire delves further into the histories of these Titans and their origins, as well as the myteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
