SODO Sundays – February 4th, 2024

In another jam packed edition of SODO Sundays, open your eyes for the next Faiz and a new team arrive… Boon!?

Welcome back tokullectors, Scott here again with another SODO Sundays to get you excited about some more budget friendly releases coming your way! We finally have our first look at some Faiz: Paradise Regained figures in the form of SODO Chronicle! For those into the Sentai side of things, we get our first look at the Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger YUDO figures. What an exciting entry!

Just a heads up that this reveal will in no way include story spoilers for the Faiz film!

SODO Chronicle Faiz: Paradise Regained

That’s right! For those who thought the Faiz SODO Chronicle line was over, it’s not. Faiz is back and with a new look from the upcoming film Paradise Regained. We are being treated to not just one SODO Chronicle set, but two! So let’s (crimson) smash our way through the details…

Here they are! A good look at our two main characters of the film: Kamen Rider Faiz and Kamen Rider Kaixa. Both sporting new updated looks that they will utilise within the film. We can even see Kaixa carrying a new weapon, the Cross Slashers. It looks like this set will feature a lot of stickers which may turn off some looking for a small scale budget-friendly set, but to those who bought into the original Faiz SODO Chronicle sets, it was likely to have been expected. Still, both will look great when it’s all said and done.

The set will also come with the Faiz Exceed Charge effect along with both the Faiz Edge and Faiz Blaster weapons to recreate moments from the film. The set will also include parts to recreate Faiz’s new Axel form and both Faiz and Kaixa’s helmets will feature a nice transparent design to let the details shine. That’s all on set #1 for now; I know, it’s a bit short & sweet, but in typical SODO Sunday fashion, we’ll likely have a deeper detailed look closer to the release date.

Let’s get a look at set #2…

Faiz again!? It appears so, except this time, he’s a heavily-painted version of the original SODO Chronicle Faiz. This is a great ‘jumping in’ point for those wanting to begin collecting SODO Chronicle Faiz sets with this definitive version of the titular character. Regardless, all of his accompanying accessories will still be stickered. It’s a great looking variant and had the Bandai Candy team decided to give this one the Premium SODO treatment with a compound eye effect, I would double dip myself. Along with Faiz is the new rider of the film: Kamen Rider Muse. Muse sports a similar look to Faiz and Kaixa in set #1.

Muse will come with her Muse Edge, a dagger weapon that can be changed into two smaller daggers as well as her Exceed Charge effect. Like the previous Kaixa and Faiz figures, this one looks to also utilise an abundance of adhesive decor. No clear parts this time, simply a painted visor.

That’s all for now! Be sure to get your hands on both sets to recreate your favourite moments from the upcoming film! Both SODO Chronicle Faiz: Paradise Regained sets are due to release in August 2024.

YUDO Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger

YU-knew it was coming, that it was only a matter of time after the recent reveal of BoonOrange and BoonBlack, completing the team roster. Well, here they are! As per YUDO tradition, two boxes will be needed to complete one character plus their accessory.

Though the aforementioned tradition has changed slightly. While the optional ‘open hands’ were always a staple of the two-box set up, it seems they’re being put into the option pack now, along with a new third set of hands, which are the closed fists without peg holes. I can see this dividing supporters of YUDO toys as it’s a little less Boom for your buck.

On a more positive note, let’s get a look at the team!

The more I look at their designs, the more they grow on me! I personally love how slick and clean their designs are and they look fantastic in this toy line! Not too many stickers either, which is generally expected of Sentai in comparison to SODO Kamen Rider. A nice positive of this set are the helmets; if you look closely, you’ll see that they’re all hand painted. Historically, YUDO helmets have always incorporated some form of sticker, but the hand painted effort here adds a sort of ‘premium’ feel to this set. It’ll be interesting to see if they get a Gashapon release like the KingOhger YUDO set and, if so, will the helmets still remain hand painted?

Above is how the team should ideally look once you’ve stickered and posed them! The team states that each figure should have 20 points of articulation!!!

The complete boxset is said to come with 12 boxes and here you can see what is in each box, with two optional part boxes being included to allow each member of the team two new sets of hands. It looks like the top half of both option parts are blocked out to be revealed at a later date. I wonder what it could be?

That’s all for now! We’ll likely get another look at this team down the line, hopefully with the secrets of the option packs revealed. The Bakuage Sentai BoonBoomger YUDO set is expected to release in May 2024.

BONUS REVEAL: BoonBoomger Candy Toys

You thought we were finished here? When there’s more candy toys on the horizon? Not on my watch!

While these may not be YUDO, SHODO or CHODO, they are still essentially part of the candy toy line at Bandai, that alone makes it worth mentioning, even if these toys are a bit more niche. I personally find them kind of neat myself.

This set contains both the BoonBoom Changer and the BoonBoom Cars! The changer is said to be roughly 45mm in its diameter with the buttons, meter and tyres being moveable! Belt part is obviously included in case you want to wear it but be aware that this line is generally for small children and it’s unlikely to fit an adult wearer unless they have thin wrists (like me).

The BoonBoom Cars we have are BoonBoom Offroad (Blue) and BoonBoom Wagon (Pink). Like their DX counterparts, they can attach to the underside of the changer! You can join the fun no matter your budget.

For those that like their miniature weapons, the BoonBoom Handle is also part of this range. You can also recreate the “Rod Mode” with an extension piece. In Rod Mode, the toy measures a nice 180mm.

What’s even more amazing though, is that the Changer can also attach to the wheel for more roleplay or display options!

There will also be another budget figure line; more scaled back in comparison to YUDO. They will come with less articulation, less paint, less stickers and one type of accessory. They are 100mm in length, which brings them to roughly the same size as SHODO figures.

If you need proof, here’s a size comparison of a very similar scaled back Goseiger candy figure next to SHODO Super Gokai Red from my personal collection! It’s nice to see even this line has improved over time, with the accessory no longer being ‘welded’ into the hand as it were.

Lastly, the BoonBoomger Robo makes an appearance in the budget candy toy line. With a total height of 120mm and moveable limbs, you can recreate some simple poses on a scale smaller than the SMP Minipla range. There’s something for everybody in this line!

That’s gonna do it for now folks! The candy toy gimmicks, figures and robo are expected to release around April 2024.

We expect to stock these soon at The Toku Source but they can also be secured via special order. Email us at contact@thetokusource.com or reach out on social media to place your order.
