New Year, New Chapter!? SODO Gotchard 5 Revealed along with a detailed look at this months SHODO release.
Good day, toku fans! Happy New Year and welcome to another iteration of ‘SODO Sundays’. Today, the people at Bandai’s Candy Toy team have revealed a look at the SODO Gotchard 5 Premium set, along with a better look at the characters included in this months upcoming SHODO set. Let’s slash, dash and Rider kick our way into it…
SODO Kamen Rider Gotchard Set 5 Premium

The first female secondary rider, Kamen Rider Majed joins this set. Majed makes a surprise appearance in the Kamen Rider Gotchard winter movie Gotchard & Geats Strongest Chemy ★ Gotcha Great Operation. Her premium figure doesn’t look to be utilising too many stickers, which is ideal when it comes to these ‘premium’ SODO sets.

Kamen Rider Valvarad joins the squad! What most fans predicted came to fruition; Valvarad became a Rider in a fate not too different to Chase from Kamen Rider Drive. Unlike Majed, Valvarad still looks to be utilising a heavy amount of stickers which may frustrate or upset fans looking to go down the premium route.

As to be expected at this point, the major draw of the premium SODO sets are the compound eye effects, which have been excellently done here. Having just recently received my Gotchard Steam Hopper premium set, the tiny compound effect really needs to be seen up close to be believed, as it’s incredible how well the team achieves this.

We also get a better look at some of the painted details from both of these characters. Thankfully, Majed’s ring is painted through the premium set, which is one less tiny sticker to worry about.

Of course, hand options are important too! SODO premium looks to include the standard open and closed weapon holding hands along with the premium exclusive clenched fists and angled wrists. Now you can try your ‘hand’ at posing these with more options. I’ll see myself out…

The Bandai Candy Toy team give us a look at the three together in all their premium goodness. It’s only a matter of time until we see these three fight together in the season, I hope your shelf space is ready!

Now for a bit of good news and a bit of bad news; Good news is the premium set will include these four premium Gotchard heads with compound eye detailing. Bad news is it’s just that: the heads. You will need to chase down the regular SODO sets if you wish to combine them with the appropriate forms.

Here we get an idea of how they would look with the regular SODO bodies and, despite not being completely premium, they still look incredible. We also get a closer look at each head which makes it easier to determine how much of the colours are made up of stickers, which tends to vary per head but the heads will come with the Valvarad & Majed premium set, so you’re not necessarily double dipping on your Gotchard purchases.
While not shown, the Bandai Candy Toy team have also stated that the pedestals will still be part of the set: both types! Price is expected to be the same as past premium SODO sets too, making this a pretty value packed set for the consumer.
SODO Kamen Rider Gotchard Set 5 Standard

Our SODO update doesn’t stop there folks! For those getting the regular Gotchard SODO 5 set release, expect another Geats Entry Rider Form with a range of heads, allowing you to swap out to be one of the various entry riders introduced through the middle to the end of Geats’ season. You may need to track down a few of these if you wish to have all of them displayed simultaneously.

Of course, the Entry Form set will come with various coloured eye stickers for those who wish to give their figures specific buckle forms.

Together, this forms the lineup of SODO Kamen Rider Gotchard Set 5; a very solid looking set overall. Release of the regular and premium edition set are both expected to be sometime this March. Mark it down in your calendars Rider fans!
Kamen Rider SHODO-XX 6

We now move on (or pass through) to Kamen Rider SHODO-XX 6, releasing this month, starting with our favourite destroyer of worlds: Kamen Rider Decade. As to be expected from Decade’s previous SHODO release, this figure features a new & improved moulding along with the addition of toe articulation. His Ride booker (folded) will come with the figure but you’ll need the expansion set if you want the Ride Booker in it’s ‘Sword’ or ‘Gun’ modes.

The expansion set also includes the Neo Decadriver, G4’s Gigant and an alternative head, should you like your Decade with a little more ‘Violent Emotion’.

We also have Kamen Rider Zengetsu Melon Arms form to add to your growing SHODO Gaim collection. The figure will come with his Musou Saber but you will need the expansion set if you wish to utilise the Melon Defender.

We gotta continue the (rising) collection of SHODO Kuuga with both Pegasus and Rising Pegasus forms respectfully. Solid paint jobs in both figures will allow the first Heisei rider to shine in your collection, but neither of the figures will come with their signature weapons. You will again need the expansion set for both the Pegasus Bowgun and Rising Pegasus Bowgun.

Kamen Rider OOO Sagohzo Combo arrives, complete with his Goribagoons, which as you can see, can be completely removed to recreate your favourite action shots from the season.

With another OOO form in the bag, fans who have been buying the SHODO Kamen Rider OOO figures up to this point can recreate the combination gimmick as exampled here. Of course, it gets better…

The expansion set will include various OOO drivers with the respective coloured medals for all previously released forms. If you like to DIY your SHODO figs, this gives you some leeway to paint your previously blank drivers with the colours of your own combinations, should you wish.

Jun Kazu AKA Utopia Dopant joins the set as the titular ‘Villain Figure’ of the set, with an excellent paint job and intimidating build. You’ll need the expansion set if you want to equip his Staff of Utopia, not that he’ll necessarily need it to be an imposing force in your collection.

I’m personally looking forward to getting my hands on this set! Kamen Rider SHODO-XX Set 6 releases this month. And don’t forget, Kamen Rider SODO Gotchard Set 5 released March 2024. We expect to stock these soon at The Toku Source but they can also be secured via special order. Email us at contact@thetokusource.com or reach out on social media to place your order.
