Rider Jump! Rider Kick! The Converge Motion line has revealed its newest set in the form of the 2023 film, Shin Kamen Rider.
The latest release in the Converge Motion line of minature figures has been announced and it’s going back to pay homage to the popular reboot of the original Kamen Rider series, Shin Kamen Rider. If you’re not familiar with the Converge Motion series, it is a series of miniature figures based on your favourite karate bugmen, featuring each rider in a static position. There are two variations of the line: ‘Converge’ and ‘Converge Motion’. Converge features the rider in a static standing pose while Converge Motion features the characters in one of their iconic poses from their appearances. Shin Kamen Rider will be giving us not one, but TWO sets in the Converge Motion line. Let’s dive on in!

Let’s start with the two riders themselves, Takeshi Hongo (Kamen Rider 1) and Hayato Ichimonji (Kamen Rider 2). We have our heroes of the film in their signature poses, complete with their trench coat looks sported throughout most of the film. They come complete with a good amount of paint applications and a compound eye effect. Both figures will look fantastic on display anywhere, alone or together!

Next up, we have Kamen Rider 2+1; the new look adorned by Hayato Ichimonji at the end of the film. This figure features the iconic ‘Ichigou pose’ seen throughout Kamen Rider’s long 50 year history. No longer sporting the trench coat, this is when Hayato Ichimonji (with Takeshi Hongo’s consciousness) becomes a true Kamen Rider. Likewise, the figure features the compound eyes and great paint apps, even capturing the stripes down the side.

It’s not over yet! For the set is also set to come with one of the mass produced Phase Mutant Grasshopper Augments. Unlike Hongo and Ichimonji, these fellas show up en masse within the third act of the film to stop both Riders. They sport a look similar to our heroes, albeit more tactical, which made these appropriate to put in this set. Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of “army building” your favourite figures, there’s no way to do that other than buying multiples of this set. The figure features the compound eye effect and great paint applications, despite a limited colour palette. That’s mostly due to how the costume looks in the film.

Dubbed the Batta-Augments Set, it is one of two Shin Kamen Rider Converge Motion sets due to release mid-2024. Let’s (Rider) jump our way through the next set…

We’ll start with the first villain of the film, the Kumo (Spider) Augment. The figure features his iconic ‘gas mask’ look with his dreadlocked hair that mimics the legs of a spider, a detailed paint job and green compound eyes effects. This piece does a great job on capturing many of the smaller details of his costume.

Next up is one of my personal favourite suit designs, the Hachi (Wasp) Augment, capturing Hiromi in a striking action pose, ready to face off against our heroes. The paint applications continue to remain consistently great despite this figure featuring painted eye pieces and not a compound effect.

We also have the Kamakiri Kamereon (Mantis/Chameleon hybrid) Augment, sporting his abominable knife which he uses to stab Ruriko. The different colour tones of his costume are captured here, along with painted eyes similar to the Wasp Augment.

Lastly, we have the main villain of the film: Chou (Butterfly) Augment, sporting his white scarf and identifying as Kamen Rider 0. His helmet features a nice sparkly blue paint application as well as a compound eye effect like the main heroes. Disappointedly, the turbines within his belt have been painted silver when they should be blue, making him the only figure in this set without a painted belt turbine. This could change in the final release though! Hopefully the team notice.

Here they are in all their glory! Dubbed the Other Augments Set, it finally gives us some of the other augmented villains in figure form beyond Butterfly Augment/Kamen Rider 0 who got a figure release through Sofubi, SHODO and S.H. Figuarts. Sasori (Scorpion) and Koumori (Bat) Augments are noticeably missing from this set. While no information has been giving why, I reckon it may be due to them both having more ‘human’ faces and the team may not have wanted to try and capture the actor likenesses. I wouldn’t hold my breath on them releasing down the line either but stranger things have happened when it comes to Kamen Rider merch.
Both Converge Motion sets are due to release in June 2024. While these sets will not be stocked generally at The Toku Source, they can be secured via special order. Email us at contact@thetokusource.com or reach out on social media to place your order.
