SODO Sundays are back under new management! Go beyond space-time with the latest SHODO reveals!
Hello toku toy collectors, my name is Scott and I’ll be doing SODO Sundays from here on out! Bandai’s candy toys are some of my favourite lines and we have a lot to talk about. We have the roster reveal for SHODO-XX 08 along with some impressions on a new budget Kamen Rider toy line dubbed the “Action Figure Mini” line.
SHODO-XX 08
“Rejoice, for the birth of a new king!” Kamen Rider Zi-O joins the SHODO lineup!!! This is a great opportunity for those who missed on the initial SODO sets that released during Zi-O’s televised run.
Like every SHODO figure, he’ll come with multiple hand options, including his signature hand gesture!
Included via the accessory pack will be his signature weapon: the Zikan Girade! There will be two, to allow you the option of ‘sword’ or ‘gun’ mode.
It gets better though, as Kamen Rider Geiz is also included in this set! This allows you to immediately have the pair in your collection from the set. Perhaps Woz will show up in SHODO-XX 09?
The accessory pack will also come with his signature Zikan Zax in both “bow” and “axe” modes along with an optional bow mode to allow you to pose Geiz pulling back the arrow.
As far Zi-O goes, that’s all this set has to offer. I think it’s fair to assume the SHODO team likely won’t tackle any of the Legend Rider forms from this season in future sets.
SHODO-XX continues it’s Kuuga run with Titan Form! Complete your SHODO Kuuga collection with one of his strongest (and best looking) forms.
As per tradition with the last few SHODO-XX sets, not only will you get the form itself, but another Kuuga figure in the ‘Rising’ variation. Kuuga’s simplistic design really lends itself well to the SHODO toy line and this form really showcases that!
As you can see, Kuuga will also be able to make use of the titan sword in its standard form as well as the ‘rising’ form!
But we’re not done with Kuuga, as this set comes with Unidentified Lifeform #42, otherwise known as Go-Jalaji-Da. Not sure if the character has ever had a figure before, but props to the SHODO team for giving Kuuga fans a chance to own him.
You can display them in your collection or create key moments from the show!
The last few SHODO-XX sets introduced some Gaim riders to the mix; SHODO-XX 08 give us his super form: Kachidoki Arms!
As you can see, the flags will be removeable and can be held by the figure, allowing the recreation of his signature two-flag pose!
The accessory pack will also give fans access to the DJ Matchlock gun in both of its variations for maximum play and display options.
That’s all for SHODO-XX 08! It’s shaping up to be an exciting set and one I can’t wait to get my hands upon!
New Toy line – Kamen Rider AFM
We ain’t done yet folks! We got news of a brand new Kamen Rider toyline. The “Kamen Rider Action Figure Mini” line. This toy line is exclusive to China and features a selection of iconic Riders in a small but affordable scale. While these are not Shokugan / candy toys, they are indeed the same scale as SHODO!!!
Starting off with everyone’s favourite passing through Kamen Rider, Decade sports his iconic look with his Ride Booker in hand (painted) and holstered onto his belt (unpainted). Hopefully it’s detachable. Fans unable to obtain these might want to hold out for SHODO-XX 06 to get their hands on Decade along with his ‘Violent Emotion’ head piece!
Next, we got the first rider of the Reiwa era: Zero One! There’s just something about Zero One’s design that leaves him looking good in every toy line, be it S.H. Figuarts or SODO. He also recently had a SHODO release in SHODO-XX 01 so this is a good alternative for those who may have missed that. He comes with his Attache Calibur.
I’m gonna need you to open up your eyes for the next Faiz! Unlike the other figures, he doesn’t come with a weapon but rather an effect piece to recreate his rider kick. It’s been quite a while since Faiz released in SHODO form so this is an excellent way to obtain a figure of him in the same scale, especially if the recent SODO Chronicle sets weren’t your thing.
Lastly and quite frankly, perhaps the prize of this set is Kamen Rider Geats! His season just finished and his SODO range is still continuing via the Gotchard line but some don’t like the abundance of stickers that SODO comes with, nor the fact it scales just a tad higher than SHODO. Well, now we have Geats in SHODO scale, complete with his Magnum Shooter in the ‘rifle’ mode! This is a pretty rad addition and is a good opportunity for SHODO fans to add the mischievous fox to their collection as we don’t know when he’ll join the SHODO-XX line.
The packaging for these isn’t too dissimilar to packaging for the Sentai ‘Change Heroes’ line. Upon closer inspection of the Rider figures, you can see that the weapons have a hand piece molded onto them, allowing you to switch the Riders right hand pieces. Bad news for anyone wanting to make their Riders left-handed!
