Ultraman Blazar Episode 12-14 Triple Recap: “Let’s Go, Blazar!”, “SKaRD Nocturne” and “Moonlit Memories”

Playing catchup at shuwatchin’ across three episodes, Sean is back with a triple recap to get you up to date with Ultraman Blazar.

Hey all, Sean here again, and back at it with Blazar again! This week, we’re looking at the Episodes 12, 13 and 14 of Ultraman Blazar, and so, without any further delay, let’s begin!

Episode 12: “Let’s Go, Blazar!”

SKaRD Team

Picking up directly where episode 11 left off, we see Gebalga walking towards a satellite dish before returning to its meteorite/dormant state.

Chief Haruno isn’t too happy with the results of the mission and asks the team why they fled, to which Gento responds, pointing out that Gebalga was about to use an EMP attack.

Chief Haruno then replies, pointing out that if Gento knew an attack like that was coming, why wasn’t he prepared? He also asks what took so long to reactivate Earth Garon, given that it’s “basic operating procedure.”

Teruaki then steps forward, in yet another meme worthy screenshot.

Teruaki mentions that Anri was injured during the battle and Chief Haruno then adds that “your C.O. wound up 10 kilometres away,” not happy about hearing these excuses from the team.

Gento tries to explain that Blazar saved him but Chief Haruno still hates the idea of trusting an “unknown alien life form.” Chief Haruno’s tone shifts to that of angry disappointment and he asks the team if they’ve defeated a single kaiju without Blazar’s intervention, a clear look of disappointment is in his eyes as he speaks.

Chief Haruno then mentions that even though Gebalga is dormant, there’s already been large scale damage and, as he goes to leave, he mentions that the higher ups are starting to question SKaRD’s usefulness, telling them to prove they are necessary.

This scene alone shows me that beneath his harsh exterior, Chief Haruno truly wants SKaRD to be the best and, despite what’s happened recently, he has faith in them.

We then get a shot of Gebalga awakening and unleashing an EMP that engulfs the surrounding area.

We see a phone glitch and shut down due to the pulse.

Then, at a office worker’s crashing computer, they starts to panic – something I think we can all relate to when our tech randomly crashes.

The GGF is overlooking what happened and, as it turns out, the facility Gebalga infected is the hub of the network contamination that’s happening.

Commander Genkawa comments about how aggravating Gebalga is, in that the kaiju is trying to destroy infrastructure.

SKaRD is also assessing the situation and Anri concludes that Gebalga is like a “living computer virus.” (Where’s Gridman when you need him?)

Emi then adds that if Gebalga isn’t stopped, Japan, and possibly the world’s networks, could fall under Gebalga’s control.

Teruaki then shows an analysis of Gebalga from the last battle and the data shows that the starfish mouth like orb in Gebalga’s abdomen is the EMP generator.

Emi asks if it’s safe to assume they just shoot it there, to which Teruaki responds with a “yeah,” but he mentions it’ll be tricky.

Since the EMP field that Gebalga generates exceeds 30,000 degrees and melted the KEM missiles, they need a way to breach it.

Before Teruaki finishes, a cheerful Bando enters and gives an update on Earth Garon’s repairs, saying they’ll need 12 more hours. Teruaki asks about “the weapon” and Bando replies that it’s doable. The two are very happy about this.

Bando then shows Gento and the others what he and Teruaki were talking about. It’s a spear made from tilsonite: the same material that Garamon’s outer shell and body plates were made of. The Special Equipment Research Centre had collected a fragment of Garamon’s outer shell, naming the alloy, tilsonite, an aluminium silicate that can handle high amounts of heat.

Teruaki clarifies that even though they call it a spear, it’s just a rod that was created as a part of the research into the material and they hope it should be able to penetrate Gebalga’s EMP emitting organ.

Gento then asks how they are going to shoot it, given that Earth Garon’s rail gun doesn’t have the right dimensions for it. Just then, Hirano (a minor character from episode 5) enters the room and mentions that the “Mega Shot” they developed, that wound up awakening Dorgo, is big enough for the tilsonite spear to fire from.

Hirano also mentions it’s being modified to be used by the Earth Garon, adding that the development team will always have SKaRD’s back.

Emi takes Gento aside and says that it feels like everything is falling into place too easily. Gento thinks that someone ‘upstairs’ has laid the groundwork and Emi picks up on what Gento means. She chuckles.

We then see GGF Commander Genkawa overlooking SKaRD’s plans for this operation, with Chief Haruno adding that the plan could work.

Without another word, Commander Genkawa authorises the operation to begin immediately.

We then see Gento at his locker again, looking at the Blazar Stone with worry.

Gento thinks back on what happened during the Demaaga operation and the first Gelbaga operations when he transformed into Blazar. It was as if someone else entirely had taken control and, in the latter instances, were trying to protect Gento from harm.

Gento clutches the Blazar Stone, with that same look of worry.

Just then, Teruaki enters and tells Gento it’s almost time to deploy. Gento tells him that he’ll be right there.

And then, in a surprising move, Gento leaves the Blazar Stone in his locker.

As Gento arrives, Emi and Anri tell Gento he’s riding shotgun, an idea that to Gento is unacceptable, given that luring the kaiju is a dangerous job. He believes he should take that responsibility.

Emi then adds since Gento is Captain, he just needs to sit back and give orders. Gento authorises the decision and tells Emi and Anri not to do anything risky, to which Emi replies with “you’re one to talk.”

Then, Gento’s crew from episode one arrive and Gento is thrilled to see them. As they joke, Gento says they’re “getting the band back together.”

A montage, narrated by Gento begins and we then see Bando and Teruaki controlling the Earth Garon, which is now using the Mega Shot as a sniper rifle, which to me, is pretty cool.

Emi and Anri are working with the Special Forces to lure Gelbaga and we get this really nice composite shot.

As they’re setting up the explosives, a Special Forces troop radios Gento, commenting that this operation is the opposite of Bazanga, given that Bazanga was lured by the Air Forces, something that Gento remembers.

The Special Forces joke about the events of that operation and how Gento scared them when he “took a swan dive off the roof” and then mention a mission that occurred 3 years prior, at a lab in Gifu. Mention of this causes a look of fear to appear on Gento’s face.

We get a flashback to the mission in question, as Gento was looking for survivors, he sees a bright flash.

And before him, was a black hole, and the silhouette of someone in it.

Gento reaches into the black hole and we cut back to the present day.

Gento then realises that this mission must have been when he bonded with Blazar. As he reminisces, his radio tells him that the explosives have been set.

We then get another really nice composite shot of Gelbaga as we see the Special Forces troops run near a wall, detonator in hand.

Gento then gives the order to commence the operation and to detonate the bombs.

The explosions awaken Gelbaga, who is then shot at by Emi in another really nice shot – proof that the team at Tsuburaya Productions have truly perfected their craft.

As Gelbaga chases the SKaRD Mobile Base, it destroys the satellite it was next to.

More bombs detonate, the flames surround Gelbaga..

As the rampage continues, the bombs still have no effect on Gelbaga, even after another set of bombs are detonated.

Anri keeps firing her rifle at Gelbaga, continuing to lure it to Earth Garon.

A GGF officer confirms that Gelbaga has reached point 06 and Chief Haruno orders guided missiles to be fired. The missiles are fired.

The missiles make contact but, once again, have little to no effect on Gelbaga and he only seems to get angrier.

Gelbaga charges the EMP, exactly according to plan, and the tilsonite spear is fired. The spear makes direct contact with the target point and this causes an energy buildup in Gelbaga but, then, the energy fades away and Teruaki confirms that the EMP emitting organ has been destroyed.

We then get another beautiful composite shot of Gelbaga and the destroyed city, just as some missiles make direct contact with Gelbaga.

Commander Genkawa and Chief Haruno look on, believing the operation was a success.

However, Gelbaga survived, tilsonite spear still embedded in the organ.

Gento orders that Earth Garon engage in combat with Gelbaga and, so, Earth Garon fires the shoulder cannons at Gelbaga.

The beams have no effect whatsoever on Gelbaga. It and Earth Garon begin to fight. Earth Garon then discharges its Earth Fire attack. However, it does little to nothing to Gelbaga, who repels the blast with an energy shield, forcing Earth Garon to the ground.

Gento arrives on the scene, gun in hand, to help Teruaki and Bando, who are still inside Earth Garon, which is being mauled by Gelbaga.

Gento goes for the Blazar Stone, but remembers he left it in his locker.

Stone or not, he still chose to charge in, firing at Gelbaga with everything he had. However, this was met with Gelbaga firing multiple energy blasts, knocking back Gento. Gelbaga continues to maul Earth Garon, as Gento gets back up again.

As Gento gets up, we finally hear the voice of Blazar himself and he sounds oddly like Gento. Gento’s eyes widen and we see into his consciousness. Gento sees all the times Blazar himself intervened when Gento was acting on impulse.

Gento says he doesn’t have time for this and asks why he’s being shown all of this. Gento begins to see things people have said to him in the past, including:

  • His son;
  • His old team from episode 1;
  • The instances of Blazar taking control.

Gento finally realises that, in those instances, Blazar was protecting him so that Gento could go home too, just as he told his old teammates in episode 1: “we all go home.” Then we get to see the flashback of the mission that Gento was on 3 years ago from Blazar’s point of view.

Gento finally realises that Blazar was trying to save lives and, just as he does, Gento summons the Blazar Brace and the Blazar Stone comes from his locker to his hand.

Gento then transforms into Blazar and joins the fight himself. This time, Blazar isn’t holding back against Gelbaga, fighting with every ounce of strength he has, even though Gelbaga is a tough opponent.

I must say, this is one of the best fights in the whole show, as some of the choreography must have been hard to pull off, such as Gelbaga grabbing and picking up Blazar.

When Gelbaga tried to use its rolling attack on Blazar, Blazar repelled it with, what I can only describe as, a donkey kick, sending Gelbaga flying.

As Gelbaga charges another attack, Blazar grabs hold of the tilsonite spear.

The residual energy from Gelbaga, combined with Blazar touching tilsonite, creates the Garamon Stone, which Gento then uses in the Blazar Brace.

Blazar pulls out the tilsonite spear and it turns into a sword, something Emi and Anri witness first hand.

Blazar then examines the sword, and gets into a battle pose.

Gelbaga fires some energy beams but Blazar’s new weapon gets rid of them like they were nothing at all.

Blazar slashes through Gelbaga and, after a celebratory caveman jump, he notices a pull lever on the sword.

Blazar pulls it and the sword charges with energy, likely energy from Gelbaga.

Blazar then pulls the trigger on the front of the sword and unleashes an energy slash. Gelbaga returns to its meteorite form and produces a shield. However, it does nothing to stop the energy from the sword.

Blazar charges the sword again, this time for the finishing blow. This image is laptop/PC wallpaper material, wouldn’t you agree?

The finisher sees Blazar fly into the sky followed by a trail of glowing green energy. A black cloud forms in the sky with green energy at the centre, as Blazar then flies out of the green energy and cuts Gelbaga in half, ending the kaiju’s rampage for good.

After Gebalga is defeated, and everyone begins to pack up, Chief Haruno makes a call, saying that “the second wave has been repelled,” meaning he knows something that no one else does.

Gento is then seen walking through the halls, to his locker, talking to the Blazar Stone, saying that it’s time he and Blazar got to know each other.

However, when he returns to his locker, he finds it is trashed with a hole in the wall, likely caused by the Blazar Stone, and this makes Gento smile.

Conclusion

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, wow. Blazar continues to blow me away with the great effects, amazing fights, and most of all, the writing. I believe this is what the cool kids call, ‘peak fiction’.

Episode 13: “SKaRD Nocturne”

Since this is mostly a recap episode, I’m mainly going to focus on the non recap parts of the episode.

In this episode, we see Anri compiling the battle records from the 12 prior episodes. She’s eventually joined by Yasunobu and Emi in reminiscing about the kaiju they’ve all faced together as members of SKaRD. The recap portions of the episodes are stock footage from the previous episodes, as the three narrate over them, offering their perspectives on each battle.

We eventually get to a part of the episode with some plot relevance, as Emi arrives and asks what’s going on. Anri tells her that they were just talking about the fact they’ve delt with a few space kaiju lately. Yasunobu then tells Anri he had an amateur astronomer friend of his run some tests on something Emi wanted him to look into and the results were identical.

Yasunobu confirms that Bazanga and Gebalga invaded Earth following the same trajectory, adding some weight to the rumour that they come from the same planet.

Yasunobu then adds that since Garamon took a slightly, but noticeably different, path than Bazanga and Gebalga, he isn’t included in the “home world theory.”

Yasunobu then adds that when people make posts about it online, they get taken down almost immediately, making him believe they’ve got a conspiracy theory on their hands.

Yasunobu then reveals a newspaper piece, given to him by his astronomer friend, as he mentions that a meteor the GGF shot down in 1999 may have also followed the same path.

Yasunobu then says that even if they’re from the same planet, their ecologies are different, and Emi reminds him that on Earth lions don’t have the same ecology as dolphins.

Anri mentions that she feels like the whole thing is a little contrived, causing a brief, awkward silence, with Emi eventually breaking the silence, commenting that there’s no use mulling it over. Yasunobu heads off, since he’s on standby, as Emi goes to her desk.

Emi comments that Anri’s lipstick is faded and then asks if Anri has been working on compiling the records all day. Anri says that there’s no end in sight! Emi then asks Anri who she is, as they don’t spend much time with each other beyond work. Anri mentions that she graduated engineering school, then joined the GGF, but is cut off by Emi, who tells her that isn’t what she meant, leading to a recap of episode 5’s events.

Anri then asks about Emi, who then reveals she skipped a few grades and graduated MiT at the age of 17. Emi also mentions her father is a scientist so she believes that’s where she got her talent from. Then after graduating, Emi cracked the GGF system for fun, got caught and was eventually scouted. Emi then says that’s enough about her and wants to hear more about Anri. The two begin to bond.

We then see Teruaki and Gento, as Teruaki asks Gento what his thoughts on Blazar are now. I’m just going to quickly mention I love when shots focus on what’s in the background, then focus in on the foreground, always been a fan of that. Gento then responds, saying “good question” to Teruaki, who mentions that on an earlier mission, they would have to “play it by ear” with Blazar for a while. We then see some flashbacks from previous episodes while Gento thinks.

Teruaki then comments that it’s hard to know what Blazar’s intentions are and asks Gento if they should consider Blazar a threat. Gento replies, asking to hear Teruaki’s opinion, leading to a recap from the previous episodes Gebalga fight. Teruaki comments that even though Blazar saved him, he still doesn’t have complete trust in him, to which Gento responds “isn’t that enough?”

Gento adds that the only way to understand someone is to learn more about them; put yourself in their shoes. Gento then says to give it some time and that Blazar will show what he’s all about. Teruaki then asks Gento if he’s the one who came up with Blazar’s name, as he had heard rumours that it was Gento, which leads to Gento remembering the day he fused with Blazar.

Gento quickly comes up with a story, saying that the light Blazar emitted when he first appeared looked like the light of a Blazar that he saw in a book once.

Shortly after Gento leaves, he looks at the Blazar Stone and we get another series of flashback. Gento then asks Blazar if they’ve come to understand each-other, even if only a little bit.

Gento eventually enters the SKaRD Command Post and sees Anri’s doodles in her notepad, one of the doodles pertains to what Yasunobu had mentioned earlier in the episode. Eventually, Anri wakes up, and asks Gento if she was sleeping at her desk. He mentions that, while it’s not a good look, he understands why as they have been deploying a lot lately.

Anri then sees that all of her data is gone, since she fell asleep on her keyboard, as Gento goes to his desk.

Conclusion

This episode, while slower and calmer than the 12 prior episodes, did give us something interesting regarding the plot of the show and I will be watching closely to see if there are any more hints pertaining to the secrets of the space kaiju and the GGF.

Episode 14: “Moonlit Memories”

Monster of the Day

This episode, we have the “Moonlight Monster” Deltandal! A kaiju that can fly at hypersonic speeds and produce energy based attacks. SKaRD and Blazar have their work cut out for them with a kaiju that can move faster than Earth Garon!

SKaRD Team

The episode opens and we see Anri using the battle plan table, playing with the models of Earth Garon and a kaiju. Can relate. 100% would do.

Teruaki and Gento are currently looking into some recent aerial shockwave phenomena.

For a while, the damage was largely limited to broken windows but, now, a patrol aircraft has been downed.

GGF Command has already identified this as the work of a flying kaiju they dubbed “Deltandal”.

Gento asks how the repairs on Earth Garon are going and Teruaki confirms that repairs are 95% complete. We get a brief glimpse of Bando telling Earth Garon, “just a little longer, Earthy.”

Anri then asks where Emi is. Gento says she’s at command. Teruaki mentions that command has been on edge ever since Gebalga and that it’s all hands on deck in the search for Deltandal. The GGF already have three teams deployed.

We then see Emi in the GGF server room looking through some intel. She something that reads “Deltandal could be the third wave” and finds more data, revealing Bazanga and Gebalga as the first and second waves respectively.

Emi does more digging and finds that the basis of the categorisation is something called V99, and she finds that it’s linked to someone named Yu Dobashi. Before Emi can have a second to think, an alarm sounds and she exits the room, just before some GGF troops enter.

We then see Deltandel flying about the see of Japan with Earth Garon in hot pursuit. Bando and Anri see that Deltandal has reached Mach 9, which is faster than Earth Garon that only reach Mach 4. Gento then adds that Earth Garon was only designed with flight capabilities to reach operation zones in mind, not for aerial combat.

Missiles are fires by Bando, but Deltandal quickly evades them and causes a sonic boom that causes the missiles to explode.

Bando sees how well Deltandal can manoeuvre itself at Mach 9, adding that doing that with Earth Garon would tear it apart. Earth Garon fires more missiles but this causes Deltandal to release a series of energy bullets, which destroy the missiles.

Bando then sees on the radar that Deltandal is beginning to ascend, higher and higher, until radar contact is lost.

Gento gives the orders for Bando to record the last known coordinates and to end the pursuit, adding they need to refuel.

Later at base, Chief Haruno is grilling SKaRD, reminding them that they were ordered to neutralise Deltandal. Even though Gento explains that Earth Garon wasn’t designed for aerial combat, and that Deltandal’s speed greatly outclassed Earth Garon, Chief Haruno tells him that he’s had enough of Gento’s “excuses.” Chief Haruno reminds the SKaRD team that they were given authority to execute operations autonomously and warns that SKaRD could be dissolved – this is their last chance to do their jobs right.

We then see Chief Haruno walking through a hall. When Emi appears behind him, mentioning ‘Space Systems Research Centre Test Facility 66’. Anri finally reveals who Yu Dobashi is, the former director of GGF-J. Emi adds that former director or not, it’s a little bit strange to put a retired man in charge of a top secret research centre and she asks Haruno what’s going on.

All Chief Haruno tells her is “Don’t dig any deeper” and that she’s putting SKaRD at risk. Emi replies that she thought it was SkaRD’s job to do what needed to be done, without the upper brass’ red tape and she asks if SKaRD is just a tool to further Haruno’s own career. When Haruno tells Emi to stay away from Yu Dobashi, all she says is she’s going to dig up everything she can.

We then see the other SKaRD members looking at Deltandal’s flight pattern. The kaiju has been spotted across the world, having travelled 100,000 kilometers in just 30 minutes at a low Earth orbit. Gento then tells the others what Emi told him – that the GGF believes Deltandal is a space kaiju, like Bazanga and Gebalga, meaning they’re work is cut out for them.

Anri then shows what she thinks is typhoons but Teruaki reveals that they are cumulonimbus clouds. The clouds have appeared everywhere Deltandal has shown up, leading Gento and Teruaki to theorise that it’s using the clouds as a hiding spot When one set disappears, it launches out to find another.

We then see Emi getting a call, confirming that she’s going to look into Deltandal from the angle given, and that whoever is calling her (presumably a SKaRD member) that she’s fine.

Emi returns to her investigation into Dobashi and V99 and finds data on an accident alonside Gento’s name and her dad’s name.

Emi is approached by a man in a suit, who she tells that the area is off limits. The man asks her name and tells Emi to come with him.

Later, we see Earth Garon extracting Deltandal’s moulted skin from a mountain landslide that occurred 2 weeks ago, matching the timing of Deltandal’s first sighting.

Gento and Bando then look over Deltandal’s DNA info and found that the kaiju isn’t from space but rather from Earth. Something awoke it underground and it shot into the atmosphere, where it’s been travelling between cumulonimbus clouds around the world ever since. Earth Garon then receives a communication regarding where Deltandal is headed next: a giant cumulonimbus over a nearby city.

Anri and Teruaki prepare to go confront Deltandal and Bando agrees to offer ground support from “Mopy”, AKA the SKaRD Mobile Outpost van. Everyone has different reactions to the name, Anri is confused, Teruaki asks Bando if there’s a machine he hasn’t named, while Gento likes the name for the van.

We then see Emi in a gym. The man in the suit brought her to an old man: Yu Dobashi.

The man introduces himself to Emi and reveals he knows that Emi has been snooping around. He says he supposes he’ll “have to tell Haruno,” commenting that SKaRD needs to “behave itself.”

Emi then cuts to the chase and asks what V99 is. Yu responds, “you tell me,” to which Emi reveals her belief that V99 is the enemy force that sent Bazanga and Gebalga to Earth. Yu responds that Emi is in the right ballpark and laughs, before complimenting Emi’s investigative skills. He tells her to investigate as she pleases. Yu then reveals he never knew the specifics of the experiments and asks Emi to fill him in on what she finds. Emi adds, more for audience benefit, that the head researcher was her father, who’s now missing. Yu replies that Emi is definitely her father’s daughter, talented, yet defiant and, as he leaves, he asks Emi to give Gento his regards.

Gento then gets a call from Chief Haruno, who tells him to keep an eye on Emi, as she’s “wandering into dangerous territory.” When Gento asks what Emi did that’s so out of line, Chief Haruno tells him that her actions could put SKaRD’s existence at risk and tells Gento to protect his team before hanging up.

We then get to see an airborne Earth Garon headed for a cumulonimbus cloud and, I must say, I love the aerial shots, it really gives a sense of scale to everything.

Earth Garon fires into the clouds, Deltandal bursts out and we get this really nice closeup of some of the facial details the kaiju’s face.

Earth Garon fires at Deltandal but the kaiju evades every round, using a soundwave to destroy the ammo being fired at it. Detandal uses a shockwave to damage Earth Garon and we see the sparks inside Earth Garon, with Anri and Teruaki avoiding them.

Gento and Bando arrive in Mopy and Anri tells them that the targeting system is down. Gento tells her it’s ok if she can’t aim and to just shoot. Anri then adds that Gento made it sound like it was her fault but Gento clarified he meant the system.

As Earth Garon fires at Deltandal, we get a POV shot of Earth Garon firing at the kaiju and the kaiju dodging.

As Deltandal goes down, Teruaki asks how do they hit it and Bando reveals he installed some wire guided hypersonic missiles in the tail VLS for such an occasion, to which Anri tells Bando how cool he is.

Detandal fires an energy blast at Earth Garon and Earth Garon dodges. Again, I’m bringing this shot up because of how amazing the aerial shots in this episode have been.

Gento then goes outside to “fix the reception” and looks up to see the aerial battle.

The Blazar Brace appears on Gento’s arm and Gento comments that the Blazar Stone is hot, telling Blazar he gets it.

Gento then transforms into Ultraman Blazar and takes to the skies. Blazar assists Earth Garon in its battle against Deltandal, as Earth Garon fires the tail VLS missiles.

Anri is nervous but Teruaki tells her she should have to aim, leading to Anri screaming “You don’t think I can aim do you!” This is what leads her to finally hitting Deltandal. Teruaki confirms that Deltandal has been hit and is going down and we see Blazar summon the Rainbow Slash. The attack hits Deltandal, luring it towards Blazar, who summons the Tilsonite Sword.

Blazar bashed and hit Deltandal several times with the Tilsonite Sword and sent the kaiju flying as he charged up the swords finisher. Blazar and Deltandal then were locked in an energy beam battle, from which Blazar emerged victorious.

Again, I just need to say the aerial shots in this episode were amazing.

We then cut to the SKaRD Command Post and we see Emi enter after finding out what she needed to know. Gento says that he though Emi was going to go straight home but Emi adds she needs to look into one more thing. Gento then tells Emi if there’s anything up, she can tell him.

Emi then tells Gento she met Yu Dobashi and tells Gento that he sends his regards. Emi asks Gento if he guarded Yu Dobashi and Gento tells her he did.

An accident occurred during Dobashi’s VIP guard mission. An explosion occurred at the facility and Gento rushed in to look for survivors. Gento was never told what happened or what had happened at the facility. All Gento knows to this day is that several researchers went missing during the explosion.

Gento tells Emi that he wishes he could have saved them all but he couldn’t. Emi comments that it’s comforting to hear Gento say that, as she wouldn’t want to have anyone else trying to save her father.

Gento asks if Emi’s father was working there and Emi says yes. Emi asks if she can look further into the accident, since she is the intel specialist, and Gento says that she can do it. We then see Emi investigating an abandoned building.

This building is more than likely the facility mentioned in the V99 documents and is heavily guarded by GGF troops.

Just then, Chief Haruno appears behind her, telling her that under normal circumstances what Emi is doing would be enough to have SKaRD disbanded and her in a cell. Emi asks Haruno if he knows this is the place where her father disappeared and Haruno says that Emi knows it’s a restricted area.

Emi says to Haruno that he must know what’s going on, given he was her father’s best friend and, despite how much Haruno tells Emi to stand down, Emi swears she will find the truth, and leaves, Haruno looking concerned.

Conclusion

This episode! Well, it was something alright! We learned more about Emi and even more about Chief Haruno. The mystery of these ‘waves’ of space kaiju is getting deeper and deeper and I’m gonna be along for the ride!!
