The first trailer for the upcoming special, Kamen Rider Gotchard VS Kamen Rider Legend, has been released by Toei. Let’s take a look at what’s in store and why that might be Kamen Rider Zi-O related!
Shortly after I’d finished writing the last Gotchard VS Legend news article, covering its announcement, Toei decided my work is not yet done and they put out a trailer and casting information. Now that the community has subbed the trailer, let’s take a look at it shall we?

First off, let’s take a look at the summary a number of Japanese publications were given. Hotaro finds himself transported into a parallel world thanks to something called the “Aurora Curtain System”, and meets a mysterious man named Hougo Kaguya Quartz (Seiichiro Nagata). What is the reason he is summoned to this world? Calling himself Lord Kaguya, he lives in the Hougo Tower, a place that bears his name, and is accompanied by a butler that looks like Hotaro’s classmate, Kajiki. By loading a card to the Legend Driver, he transforms into Kamen Rider Legend! With his ‘gorgeous’ fighting style, he fights the evil organization called Hundred and is equipped with various Ride Chemy Cards based on past Kamen Riders and using these Rider Chemies, Hotaro will transform into ExceedMighty!
Hundred is led by a mysterious boss played by returning Kamen Rider actor, Robin Furuya. But that’s not all, the trailer even highlighted some other Legend Riders, such as Kamen Rider Gaim, Kamen Rider Kaixa, Kamen Rider Kiva and Kamen Rider Decade himself.
With that in mind, there are a couple of details I would like to speculate on. Mainly, this special is absolutely connected to Zi-O in some way. I think I’m basing that on the fact that Legend’s name is Hougo Kaguya Quartz, which is, I think we can all agree, a very Zi-O core name. In addition to this, all of the Zi-O grunts are used and can be seen fighting in this trailer.
Additionally, if we look closer at the announcement photo of Robin’s character we can see he is holding something in his hand; a Legend Ridewatch, perhaps?
The conflict Hotaro finds himself in seems like it’s someone using Zi-O powers. Potentially, a Time Jacker fighting someone who’s clearly inspired by Decade, which I think is extremely interesting. Additionally, along with more photos of Legend, we were treated to photos of Gotchard’s new form, ExceedMighty. You may notice the shoulder pad from the Zi-O Faiz form. I know “they kitbashed something” isn’t exactly news, or even supporting evidence that this spin-off is Zi-O related, but I will also remind you that the Revice, Geats and Gotchard Ridewatches were announced a while ago.
