Apple TV+ Release Second Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Trailer

Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters this week, and we get introduced to some new plot details and new kaiju.

Aside from a brief glimpse of Godzilla and a winged kaiju, we were a little starved for kaiju in the first trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ series, releasing in November, but they have definitely changed that in their latest trailer, showing us at least two new kaiju, as well as what looks to be eggs containing baby kaiju. We also get more footage of the main human characters for the series, as well as new footage of William Randa from Kong: Skull Island, and new scenes featuring Godzilla in all his glory.

From what we are shown in this latest trailer, nobody seems to know exactly what is happening, or what Monarch is and why they have such a keen interest in the MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms), except for modern day Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell). What they do know is that Monarch was somehow involved in the attack upon San Francisco, and that they are hiding key details from the general public that could change everything, if said secrets ever were made public.

We also see Shaw revealing that he’s been plotting to reveal those very secrets to the world, as well as seeing what appears to be our team of humans at a decommissioned nuclear power plant, since we know from the 2014 Godzilla movie that MUTOs love to feed on nuclear energy. A group of researchers exploring the area do stumble across a rather large clutch of kaiju eggs, each the size of a beach ball, but the more worrisome kaiju are the spiders. I think they may be some form of Nerscylla, the spider kaiju from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and an ice breathing kaiju that is shown to freeze a poor victim.

We also see more of the winged kaiju we were given a glimpse of in the first trailer, which I am currently theorising could possibly be an adaption of Battra, a bat like counterpart to Mothra. We see it fly over a forest, just like in the first trailer, but we’re also shown a scene where it appears to be breaking out of, or through, a boat.

As a long time kaiju fan and a huge fan of the Monsterverse, I am highly excited to see what happens in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, especially the new kaiju and what Monarch are possibly hiding from the world. The character of Lee Shaw is also very intriguing as he’s played by two different actors (Wyatt and Kurt Russell) split by a 50 year gap, and I am curious as to what he knows that seems to scare Monarch.
