Exploring the Ohsama Sentai Kingohger Fortnite Map

A Shugoddam themed creative map has been made on Fortnite?! Jay and Ethan take a look at this unique tokusatsu/video game crossover!

What is Fortnite?

Fortnite is a popular online video game which has been captivating gamers globally since its launch in 2017. Fortnite was developed and published by Epic Games. A virtual phenomenon, Fortnite has achieved immense popularity, especially among the younger gaming community. It’s accessible on various platforms, such as PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

These are the 3 major modes that players can engage in:

Battle Royale: The flagship mode of Fortnite, Battle Royale, pits 100 players against each other on a vast island. Their mission is to outlast their competitors in a fierce struggle for survival. Participants must scavenge for weapons, resources and gear while evading a gradually shrinking safe zone that compels them to confront one another head on. Victory goes to the last individual or team standing.

Save the World: Save the World is Fortnite’s original mode, although it’s somewhat overshadowed by the Battle Royale craze. In this mode, players team up to defend against hordes of zombie like creatures. To accomplish this, they construct and reinforce structures to shield themselves and fulfil various objectives. Save the World focuses more on cooperative play and follows a distinct progression system compared to Battle Royale.

Creative: Creative enables players to design their own Fortnite games and experiences that can be published and shared with friends online. Players can create worlds of their own, using their rules on their own personal island. Players can also ‘Discover’ countless community made games to play on the main Discover screen. This is the mode that the Shugoddam Castle was made in.

Notably, Fortnite is celebrated for its vibrant graphics, whimsical characters and constant updates that introduce fresh content, time limited events and a plethora of cosmetic items that players can acquire or purchase using a virtual currency called “V-Bucks.” These cosmetics include character skins, emotes and weapon wraps, allowing players to personalise their in game appearance.

In addition to its gaming elements, Fortnite has evolved into a cultural sensation, marked by a thriving esports community, a passionate fan following and notable partnerships with major entertainment brands like Marvel and Star Wars. Since its beginning, Fortnite has significantly influenced both the gaming sector and broader popular culture.

Shugoddam Castle

Ohsama Sentai Kingohger has received a playable location to play on Fortnite Creative mode! Named “Reclaim The Kings’ Chamber: Training Edition,” this fresh map draws its inspiration from the Shugoddam throne room. The creation of this project can be attributed to the efforts of Toei Zukun Lab.

The release of the castle was revealed via Toei’s Kingohger page on X:

For those immersed in the Fortnite universe, gaining access to this novel map is as straightforward as venturing into Battle Royale and utilizing the Island Code 5011-1640-7775.

Reviewing the Map

The map itself is a recreation of the Shugoddam castle, specifically the throne room, filled with targets. Hitting the start button on one of the statues near where you spawn in begins a 15 minute timer and, using the bow you spawn in with, you shoot down the targets until on the podium where the four other kings normally sit, spawning a kinetic boomerang. I was doing the map solo but for me nothing else happened after I got the boomerang. The timer just ticked down till I got booted out back to the home page. Now, there is a chance I alone could not be enough to trigger the next phase of the shooting range game but I don’t think that’s likely.

I understand limiting the area players can move in is needed to make the shooting range game function but, when that shooting range game can be beaten in under five minutes, allowing players to wander up and down a large corridor wondering if something is meant to happen probably isn’t be best possible outcome. Your users are likely to bore, as the excitement of getting to roleplay walk around a location from a show they watch wears of pretty quickly.

Personally, I think it would have been cool if we had more than just the Shugoddam throne room to explore. They could have made this a game that’s part of a “Kingdoms of Terra” celebration with areas dedicated to the other kingdoms. They could maybe even throw in a little nod to the summer festival episode by having the shooting game be something Yanma and the Kingdom of N’Kosopa set up to make the virtual culture exhibits a little more interesting.

All in all this is kind of a non event – a shooting range mini game in a tokusatsu location. I don’t know why I expected more but, while I might be underwhelmed by this map, the fact that it exists is a great thing. Hopefully, we will see big and more ambitious maps made in the future. This is something fans of the show will get a kick out of: getting to wander around Gira’s throne room for a while, grief it a little with the paint grenade launcher you’re given (along with the bow when you spawn in) but don’t expect too long of an experience.

Have you played the Shugoddam Fortnite map? What other tokusatsu locations would you like to see in the game? Remember, if you want to give the map a look yourself the code again is 5011-1640-7775. This has been Ethan and Jay, writers and reviewers for The Toku Source, and we’ll see you next time.
