Ultraman Blazar Episode 8 Recap: “Rainbow Appears: Part 2”

The Iridescent Kaiju, Nijikagachi, returns for the second part of an Ultraman Blazar two parter where Gento must, once again, confront his past in order to save the Earth.

Hey all, Sean here again, and we’re back where we left off with Ultraman Blazar! Since this is the second part of last weeks episode, we’ll be skipping over the monster of the day, and going straight into the action!

SKaRD Team

Following last week’s episode, Gento finally wakes up after the battle with Nijikagachi, and we briefly see his dream in this sequence that’s reminiscent of the Showa era, which I really like.

Gento wakes up in a hospital bed,

The SKaRD team shows Gento that the typhoons that began in last episode are getting worse, and are now merging into one.

Nijikagachi is in the typhoons centre, where the last “reset” began, Hidora City. We get another look at Nijikagachi as it rampages, inhaling random things with it’s vacuum like ability.

Later, Emi calls, and reveals she gathered information on the Nijikagachi summoning ritual.

Step 1: You must find 7 bracelets hidden across Japan

Step 2: While wearing them, you must submerge your arm into a holy spring, this will brand the wearer with the mark of a serpent.

When asked where she got the intel, Emi tells them it was all in Professor Yokomine’s lab.

Gento concludes that there must be a psychic link between Yokomine and Nijikagachi, deciding if they must, they will have to eliminate Yokomine, one life, to save many, telling the team it’s only a final resort.

Later, Yokomine sees the Earth Garon fly by, and the Earth Garon, now armed with the Mod. 2 cannons, lands in front of Nijikagachi.

The Mod 2 Earth Garon begins to engage Nijikagachi in combat, while Anri and Nagura confront Yokomine.

After noticing who I think is Emi, set up as a sniper, Yokomine gives them an unimpressed look. Which I found hilarious.

Yokomine tells Nagura to “shoot him if he wants, he’s prepared for it” while Nagura tries to reason with him.

Nagura points out the hypocrisy in Yokomine’s belief, to which Yokomine replies that Gento said the same thing.

We then get to see the Mod 2 cannons in action as Earth Garon fires at Nijikagachi. However, this does little to the kaiju. Back in the conversation between Nagura and Yokomine, Nagura reveals he has one of Yokomine’s books with him, “Eye of the Kaiju”, which Nagura views as a nod to Yokomine’s fascination to “the primal purity of kaiju”.

Nagura’s words seem to get through to Yokomine, as he points out that even kaiju will be affected by Nijikagachi’s storm. However, just as Yokomine is about to fire a blast from the bracelets, Nagura shoots them, destroying them.

However, the broken bracelets only seem to grant Nijikagachi more power.

Blazar VS Nijikagachi: Round 2

Gento transforms and Blazar fights Nijikagachi, only this time, Blazar isn’t holding back!

Thanks to Blazar, Bando, who was piloting the Earth Garon, gets a clean shot at Nijikagachi, and we see this really cool slow motion shot!

This shatters Nijikagachi’s head, unleashing a rainbow into the sky, which Blazar then proceeds to grab, and uses it against Nijikagachi as a giant sawblade attack.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this week’s episode, as to be expected from me, I also love the fact that we end on Professor Yokomine, fishing, and we hear Nijikagachi’s roar, meaning, the kaiju may return in a future episode.
