Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Features Dark Ranger with Mixed Ranger Form

Dark Ranger

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will include the Dark Ranger, but fans have noticed a mix of Ranger form designs. The Ranger adapted from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger will finally make his live-action debut but has already debuted for Power Rangers in the comics.

As there are many confirmations still to come for the character, some crucial details are expected to feature in the latest addition to the 30th Season. With the upcoming debut of the Dark Ranger, here are the key details currently known about the new Ranger.

Power Rangers Dino Charge adapted Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger as a dinosaur themed Ranger team consisting of ten Rangers. The Dark Ranger was adapted from the Deathryuger, who is a movie exclusive villain from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: Gaburincho of Music. The powers of the villain came from Zyudenryu Tobaspino and, for a brief time, granted his power to Daigo’s son, Dai-Kun. Instead of Deathryuger, Dai-Kun became Kyoryu Navy using the true Zyudenchi from Spinosaurus Zyudenryu. Fans originally expected the Navy Ranger to appear in Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, as the toy referenced a ‘Talon Ranger’.

From Expectation, To Comics, To Cosmic Fury Debut

The Dark Ranger was revealed in the latest trailer and sneak preview for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury as the 30th Season was listed on Netflix. The Ranger form has also been revealed to mix two versions of the Ranger. This will also be the Ranger’s first live action debut and the first Ranger to debut outside of their expected adaptation. Although the identity has yet to be confirmed for his live action debut, Ryan Carter is expected to return as Heckyl. This is due to the reveal of the character in the Boom! Studio comics.

Cosmic Fury’s Dark Ranger adapts Two Movie Forms

The Dark Ranger in Cosmic Fury features the suit of Deathryuger with the Helmet of Kyoryu Navy.

The Dark Ranger seen in the trailer has been revealed to consist of parts from both Deathryuger and Kyoryu Navy, which feature in different movies for the Sentai series, Kyoryuger. This incarnation includes the blue detailed helmet of the Kyoryu Navy with the red detailed suit of Deathryuger. Jason Bischoff, former Director of Global Consumer Products at Saban Brands for Power Ranger, recently shared his love for the Dark Ranger reveal. The reason for the mash-up of forms was revealed to be due to Toei sending the Kyoryu Navy helmet rather than the Deathryuger one but Bischoff shared his desire to explain the design mix through the Boom! Studios comics.

Ryan Carter Expected to Return as Heckyl

Fans are expecting Heckyl’s return, as the character from Power Rangers Dino Super Charge finally gained the powers during the Beyond The Grid comic storyline. Before becoming the Dark Ranger, Heckyl was originally a villain for Dino Charge’s second season and was corrupted by the Dark Energem. He was forced to share his body with his newly created dark side, Snide, until he was freed. After becoming the Keeper of the Dark Energem, he was transported back in time with Zenowing to save his home world, Sentai 6.

Heckyl’s powers were created when he acted in fear of Lord Arcanon destroying his planet again. He created his own Morpher using Zenowing’s Titano Charge Morpher design. Although he managed to destroy Lord Arcanon, the Dark Energem began to corrupt Heckyl back into Snide but Zenowing sacrificed himself to save him. This loss greatly affected Heckyl but he answered the call from Zordon to stop Lord Drakkon, which led him to become part of the Beyond The Grid and temporarily become the Blue Solar Ranger.

Comics Link to Cosmic Fury

For now, there have been no official reveals regarding the Dark Ranger as he helps the Cosmic Fury Rangers in the 30th Season. Fans expect Heckyl to finally become the Dark Ranger, with his Boomerang like weapon also featured. This may also be the first time and greatest opportunity to reference the comics for the first time as even the Omega Ranger arc featuring Zack (Walter Emanuel Jones) wasn’t included in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. Since Ryan Carter played the character, it will be exciting to see him finally morph in the live action series.

As Cosmic Fury includes a mix of new powers and Zords, there is a lot of potential for the Dark Ranger in upcoming episodes. The debut episode has yet to be revealed, but there is a chance that the Ranger could pilot one of the many Zords adapted from Kyuranger. Since Billy piloted the Wolf Cosmic Zord and Aiyon has been seen in the cyan coloured Bear Zord, there is a good chance to see the Dark Ranger use the latest Zords instead of summoning the Spino Zord. With Hasbro Pulse Con coming a week before release, many more reveals and treats could come before everything is brought to light.
