Ohsama Sentai KingOhger DX Tarantula Abyss Revealed

Premium Bandai has a announced a brand new edition to the Ohsama Sentai KingOhger toyline with another black and gold repaint of an existing mecha.

The DX Tarantula Abyss is Bandai’s latest black and gold rerelease of an already established mech, a trend revived recently, starting with Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger’s ZenkaiOh Black ZyuraGaon. This clearly sold well enough to warrant a new black and gold repaint in Avataro Sentai DonBrothers, in the form of Murasame’s Black Onitaijin Murasame, Black Robotaro and Black Onitaijin. Even in KingOhger, so far, we have already seen one such mecha repainted with the KingOhger Zero, used by, now former king, Racules.

Taking a closer look at the newest member of this exclusive Bandai repaint club, and first appearing in KingOhger’s 26th episode, the tiny Shugod had been protected by King Desnarak VIII. Unlike its appearance in the show, however, the DX Tarantula Abyss is capable of turning into the Tarantula Knight, used by the sixth member of Ohsama Sentai KingOhger, Jeramie Brasieri, and new king of the Bugnarak.

This release also includes the Cicada and Pede Shugod weapons, recoloured to match with the Tarantula Abyss. Looking at the images we have available, it’s very clear that it will be just as articulate as the regular DX Tarantula Knight.

According to the information provided by Bandai, the DX Tarantula Abyss is capable of combining with other toys in the line – DX King-Ohger Zero, DX God Kabuto, DX God Scorpion and DX God Hopper – to make a version of Extreme King-Ohger, that you would assume would be named Extreme King-Ohger Zero. With no official word on that, though, fans will have to speculate on the combination Shugod mecha’s name. Further to this, it is with noting that some sites that have their preorders up for this item have the following notice in the description:

“Though these are built from the DX moulds, Bandai warns it may not be compatible with DX King-Ohger mecha outside of King-Ohger Zero. They also warn that care should be taken not to chip the gold plated parts.”

This is general good care advice for any collector to remember, additionally from this we can gather the DX Tarantula Abyss will be the same size as the DX Tarantula Knight. It’s always good to know the size of future mecha purchases as it lets us collectors know exactly how much space we need to find to properly display our newest acquisition.

Thinking forward even further, the remaining Shugods they could possibly release with a fresh coat of black and gold paint could be the DX Guardian Snail Gatling, DX Guardian Rolling Hammer and the already primarily black and gold DX King Caucasus Kabuto to allow fans to make a God King-Ohger Zero. While this is something I’m sure many fans and collectors would be interested in I’m unsure on the likelihood of it happening. Only time will tell.

This Premium Bandai web exclusive item is set to be released in Japan in January 2023.
