Diving Deeper into the Power Rangers Cosmic Fury Opening

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s new opening video has revealed many preview features for the upcoming series, including the general story and surprising return of an iconic Ranger.

With the opening of the new season, fans have been teased with the variety of debuts as the ten episode series comes to Netflix this September. As many details could be easy to miss, here is a full breakdown of scenes featured in the opening credits.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury continues the story of the Dino Fury Rangers as they head into their third season for the 30th Anniversary celebration. With the Power Rangers franchise celebrating a huge milestone, Simon Bennett revealed the recent dino themed Rangers will return with new powers and Zords. This marks the first time a Ranger series has received a third season since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with David Yost recently revealed to mentor the current team during their space adventure.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury: Full Opening Breakdown

There are many rapid previews shared in the opening credits for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, with a bunch of curious choices teased in the 30 second release. Fans have already seen the new Ranger forms for the six Dino Fury Rangers, with Lord Zedd returning as a key villain. However, some features have previously been rumoured but become strengthened by the new opening credits. New reveals included in the credits include brand-new foes, henchmen, and even who pilots the new Zords.

‘Ghost Ranger’ Gets to Fight

As expected, the first opening credits for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury continue straight off the Season 2 finale of Dino Fury. This means that the revived Zayto will be seen in action in his ‘Ghost Ranger’ form, which was the label given by Russell Curry. It will be amazing to see how much the second Ranger form for Zayto will be used before he becomes the Cosmic Fury Zenith Ranger. The first release also suggests that fans can expect new opening credits to feature as the series progresses into each episode. This means new credits for the Rangers in their Cosmic Fury Ranger forms and when potential new characters are added after their debut.

Fantastic New Henchmen to Battle

The new Zedd inspired henchmen had finally been revealed, which were previously teased by Simon Bennett. Only the new helmet was shown before but now the full form has been revealed for the reoccurring foes that replace the Hengemen. The opening credits also feature the team fighting the new henchmen often, keeping to the promise of the original scenes previously revealed. They also seem to have a similar aesthetic to another original design, the Quantrons, as the new space foes include new weapons with their design.

Ollie Presents Serious Concern

One of the biggest discussions among the Ranger fandom is Ollie becoming an antagonist, as the Ranger continues to serve Lord Zedd. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed via cast or content, teases of Kai Moya’s character have supported this expectation. This includes sneak previews of the production but now adds further speculation, since Ollie is the only cast member in the opening credits that doesn’t smile. As many details are often intentional, this could be a hint towards the upcoming storyline for Ollie.

Fern Full Time Cast Member Before Orange Ranger Debut

Fans were delighted to discover that Jacqueline Joe will be returning to portray Fern as part of the main cast. Fern became her girlfriend of Izzy during Power Rangers Dino Fury but will now play a greater role in the third instalment. Easter eggs in cast and production photos previously hinted at an Orange Ranger, but the Cosmic Morpher toy became the indirect confirmation for Fern becoming a Ranger alongside her partner. Many features are expected to be revealed in the series but fans already expect the Cosmic Fury Orange Ranger to wield a claw like weapon and pilot the Scorpion Cosmic Zord.

David Yost’s Billy: Mentor, Ranger, Wolf Zord Nostalgia

David Yost returning for the 30th Anniversary season was one of the biggest reveals, as Billy will become the mentor for the new team. As the Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger, it was revealed that Simon Bennett planned to include Yost before the Once & Always special was even made. Billy will also still fight as the Blue Triceratops Ranger but the opening credits also revealed he will pilot the Wolf Cosmic Zord. This is also a nostalgic commemoration as Billy piloted the Ninjetti Wolf Zord during MMPR Season 3, further validating the ‘Ollie turned Evil’ event as an expected storyline.

Lord Zedd with Original Villains

Along with Lord Zedd taking back his throne, new villains have also appeared as they give fans the first look at new antagonistic characters. Along with Lord Zedd and his henchman, there appear to be at least two new alien characters featured in the new season. Although unclear if the two forms are the same character, there are two octopus based foes featured in the opening credits. There is also another dress in blue formal like attire seen in the background, with more details expected to be revealed soon.

Zords More Dynamic Than Before

Fans aware of the Super Sentai series, Uchu Sentai Kyuranger, will instantly recognise the Zords featured in Cosmic Fury. However, these Zords appear to be more dynamic than before as they are not isolated to a distinct character due to changing colours. This is suggested by the preview of all nine main Voyagers, which could be tied to Rangers differently than expected. This includes Pink Ranger Amelia piloting the Red Lion Cosmic Zord before becoming the Red Cosmic Fury Ranger.

Fans are already aware of an Orange Ranger appearing but teased easter eggs of a Purple Ranger have also been found in past cast images. As this new season is only ten episodes long, the Zords may only consist of the 9 Voyagers and exclude the Dragon, Twin-Bear, Pheonix, and Orion Voyagers seen in Kyuranger. This may also mean that like the new Shark Zord, the Eagle Voyager could be given to this teased Purple Ranger, who is expected to be former Void Knight, Tarrick.

There are still many confirmations yet to be made regarding Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, but now fans finally have a date set in their calendars. The new Cosmic Orb lore teased in the description will be an exciting reveal to look forward to. With many features now revealed, details regarding the backstory and events are what fans are excited to discover next. Fans still anticipate more content to tease the upcoming season during the end of August and Hasbro Pulse Con, but a lot may only be revealed once it’s finally released on Netflix.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury will be released worldwide on September 29th, 2023, via Netflix. The 30th Anniversary season will consist of ten episodes as the Rangers gain new powers, weapons, and Zords when they obtain the Cosmic Orbs.
