Long awaited by the Power Ranger fandom, we finally have some new information on the upcoming mini series, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.
The news, reported as an exclusive by EW, gives us an official debut date for the newest Power Rangers season, set to debut around a month after the official 30th anniversary date. As part of the news, we also received some new cast photos showing the Ranger actors in their respective colours, some in new colours entirely. We also got the huge news that Mighty Morphin O.G. David Yost, the original Blue Ranger, will be returning for the newest season. This news comes just a few months after Yost put the spandex back on for the 30th Anniversary special, Power Rangers Once and Always. Cosmic Fury will be the second Ranger related project that David Yost has returned for since his departure mid way through Power Rangers Zeo, back in 1996.
As shown in the new title sequence which dropped today, it appears that Billy will be fighting alongside the Dino Fury Rangers as they evolve into the Cosmic Fury Rangers in their battle against a familiar foe. “Lord Zedd has escaped and this time his rampage extends to the farthest reaches of space,” reads the official Cosmic Fury description. “The Rangers need to find new Zords and new powers to face Zedd’s latest threat, and they won’t do so alone. Joined by some familiar faces, they will discover the power of the Cosmic Orbs and become the Cosmic Fury Rangers, armed with new uniforms, new weapons, and an entire new fleet of Zords!”
This is a perfect reason to bring Billy back as not only does he have the connection to Lord Zedd but also, back in the Zeo era and even during the MMPR era, Billy built and designed Zords and gadgets that aided the teams.
We felt it would be a meaningful landmark for fans to have David return to the show in a significant role, playing a mentor. And, on a personal level, it was a thrill to be working with the O.G. Blue Ranger. David’s calm and positive spirit kept us all grounded and reminded us of the Ranger legacy we were striving to do justice to.
Cosmic Fury Executive Producer, Simon Bennett, in an interview with EW
Bennett goes on to say that since Billy’s return was originally planned before the reunion special was put together, Once & Always will be “completely separate” from Cosmic Fury. Apart from a few little easter eggs, we were ordered to maintain it that way, he claims. I won’t reveal them, but I’m interested to see if fans notice them.
Amelia (Hunter Deno), the Dino Fury Pink Ranger, will switch out her suit for the Cosmic Fury Red Ranger one and become the first full-time female Red Ranger in the franchise’s history (the first female red was Lauren from Power Rangers Super Samurai). In January, we got our first look at the Cosmic Fury Ranger suits.
The entire Ranger team will return for a third season in Season 30 for the first time since the franchise’s inception in 1993. Deno co-stars with Russell Curry as Zayto, Kai Moya as Ollie Akana, Tessa Rao as Izzy Garcia, Chance Perez as Javi Garcia, Jordon Fite as Aiyon, and Jacqueline Joe as Fern.

With all this news today, the Ranger community is buzzing with theories and thoughts about what the Cosmic Fury story will entail, as it appears, based on first glance at the intro sequence, that we may be seeing some “unusual ranger suits“ in addition to the Cosmic Fury ones.

The official poster, seen above, revealed some other “new suits” with some characters, assumed to be allies of Zedd, wearing Power Ranger’like costumes. Could this be a return of the Dark Rangers from season two of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?
The “new zords” being used this season are from the 2017 Super Sentai series – Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. The blue warrior from Kyuranger, whose motif and Zord are based on a wolf, could be another link to Billy’s past, since he was the blue wolf ranger in MMPR. This, however, is just a theory. If you have any other theories or spotted anything in the title sequence we didn’t, let us know below.

Power Rangers Cosmic Fury’s ten episode season will debut September 29th on Netflix.
