Ultraman Blazar Episode 3 Recap: “The Name is Earth Garon”

It’s time for another Ultraman Blazar recap! This week sees the proper debut of SKaRD’s main anti kaiju weapon, Earth Garon.

Hey all, Sean here again. Episode 3 of Ultraman Blazar made its debut this past Saturday and there’s a lot to unpack. Let’s get into it!

Theme Song and Ending Song

The theme song and ending song are “Bokura no Spectra” and “BLACK STAR” performed by Hiroshi Kitadani and MindaRyn, respectively. Many of you may remember Hiroshi Kitadani as the singer for the first opening of the 2004 series “Madan Senki Ryukendo”, meanwhile, MindaRyn (real name Natcha Pongsupanee) got her start doing anime covers on YouTube before being signed to Lantis.

Both songs pack a punch and, to be honest, part of me wishes that “BLACK STAR” was the opening.

SKaRD Team

Before we get to the monster of the day and Earth Garon, let’s check in on team, shall we?

We get to see a small montage of the SKaRD team training, from running with their new guns, to forest combat training.

Yasonobu explaining how Earth Garon works

This is my favourite part of the episod:, the team practicing battle strategy. But, in all honesty, they were just having fun here.

You can even see two maintenance workers in the background looking down to see what our team are doing, probably thinking “they get all the fun!”

The montage ends with a discussion of who will pilot Earth Garon when the time comes.

We then see Gento at his locker, preparing to go home, and we see a picture of what I believe is his family, as his character bio before the show’s release mentions he has one. We then see a flashback of Gento assisting in evacuating a building, when he sees something, a strange light.

The light then turned into a black hole and it had a vaguely humanoid figure in it, that Gento called out to.

Gento reached out and found himself in the black hole….

He then looks at the Blazar Stone, and then he puts it down and takes out his ring.

Monster Of The Day

The monster in this episode is the “Coleopteran Monster” Taganular, a beetle like kaiju who feeds on teaterium. The more it consumes, the larger it gets. It has sickle like hands, can burrow underground and can fire off a fusion beam.

Earth Garon

And lastly, we have the “Type 23 Special Tactical Armored Kaiju” Earth Garon! The mech appeared at the end of episode 2 but, in this episode, we finally see him in action! Many people have made comparisons to the millennium iteration of MechaGodzilla, a.k.a. Kiryu, and I can kind of see the resemblance.
Earth Garon has various weapons, including the Tail VLS (Vertical Launching System), the “Earth Gun” and the charged particle “Earth Cannon”. Earth Garon can also roar to intimidate it’s foes, as well as use back mounted rockets to fly.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this week’s episode and I’m hoping to get episode reviews out a lot sooner now.
