Ultraman Blazar Episode 2 Recap: “The Man Who Created SKaRD”

Another week, and it’s Blazar time again! This week, we saw the formation of SKaRD and were introduced to its members!

Hey all, Sean here again! Last night, at time of writing, I watched the newest episode of Ultraman Blazar, and I have a few things to say about it, as always, so without further delay, let’s jump right in!

SKaRD (Special Kaiju Reaction Detachment)

As we can all recall, last week, we were introduced to protagonist and SKaRD captain to be, Gento Hiruma but, now, we get introduced to each of SKaRD’s new members. Let me walk you through each member of the team.

Emi Aobe

Emi is the first member we’re introduced to, who we actually see near the end of episode one, as she had fired special rounds from a bazooka into Bazanga during the kaiju and Blazar’s first fight. She’s shown to be skilled at gathering intel and, according to her official character bio, her hobby is cosplaying.

Teruaki Nagura

The GGF soldier who was chosen to be Gento’s vice captain. He was also there the night of the Bazanga operation, luring the kaiju with aerial fire. His official bio states he’s a skilled strategist with knowledge of kaiju biology.

Anri Minami

Like the previous two, Anri was there during the Bazanga operation, having heard Gento’s actions over comms. She’s enthusiastic about working with Gento and her official bio claims her hobby is weightlifting.

Yasunobu Bando

The final member of SKaRD, introduced at the end of the episode. He’s revealed to have been recruited weeks before Gento and the others, for the development of the “Counter-Kaiju Robot Earth Garon”.

Retsu Haruno

Retsu Haruno is the founder of SKaRD and Chief of Staff for GGF command. He’s the one who assigns Gento as SKaRD’s captain and gives him the files on his team. The episode ends with him giving the order to defeat a future kaiju before Ultraman Blazar can, which brings me to said kaiju.

Monster Of The Day

Today’s monster is the aquatic kaiju, Gedos! Gedos is a monster who attacks and sinks fishing boats. Their attacks include a water jet shot from it’s mouth and extending the anglerfish like lure on it’s head to wrap around and electrocute it’s foes. However, Gedos does have a weakness, the heat vent on it’s back. If damaged, he’ll overheat and this was the monster’s undoing.

Earth Garon

The Counter-Kaiju Robot Weapon Type 23 Special Armoured Kaiju, or Earth Garon, is only shown briefly at the end of this episode and it will serve as SKaRD’s main weapon against kaiju in future episodes, set to make it’s proper debut in episode 3!

English Dub

I might as well mention it here since I didn’t in the episode 1 review, but the English dub is very good. If you watch the dub, you may hear a familiar voice as Gento, none other than Adam Park, the second Black Ranger himself, Johnny Yong Bosch!

Conclusion

Episode 2 was good fun. It introduced us to the rest of the main cast we’ll be cheering for, as the show goes on. I highly recommend checking it out!
