The Power Rangers Hyperforce Recap continues with the second part of chapter four as the Rangers are forced into the Shattered Grid event.
HyperRPG’s TTRPG series collaborated with Saban Entertainment to create a canon and original story of time-travelling Power Rangers as they face the Alliance of Evil. Each episode of the series was three hours long and featured many interactions with in-depth stories. With the upcoming release of Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1, we are going to dive into the special episodes that link into the comics as we continue from Episode 19.
Power Rangers Hyperforce is an original series created by HyperRPG as a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) live stream experience. The live stream aired as a web series on HyperRPG’s Twitch channel, featuring as a sequel to Power Rangers Time Force. This time the game master is Zac Lim Eubank, to capture the darker tone as he leads the cast in the Shattered Grid featuring the world of The Coinless and the corrupted Tommy Oliver, Lord Drakkon. Writer of the comics, Kyle Higgins also participates as a guest character as well as Jason David Frank as Lord Drakkon, which is the only portrayal of the character outside of the live action trailer.
Warning: The following overview of events doesn’t include significant moments of the Rangers individually. This includes detailed occurrences, in game outtakes, and character moments that would be lost to interoperation without watching, so ensure to check out Episodes 19 and 20 of Power Rangers Hyperforce for yourself.
The Fourth Chapter Continues

The fourth chapter is a featured filled sequence of episodes with part two integrating with the Boom! Studios comic event, written by Kyle Higgins and Ryan Parrott. The guest players for the chapter include Malika Lim Eubank as The Coinless’ Colonol Lina Song, Kyle Higgins as Captain Michael Hicks, and Jason David Frank fully portraying Lord Drakkon. The chapter enters the Shattered Grid on episode 19 including Malika and Kyle, with episode 20 featuring Lord Drakkon.
As the Hyperforce Rangers are travelling the time stream, they thoroughly check to ensure their plan to sabotage the Armada and the Alliance of Evil was successful during their last encounter. The Rangers continue to be unsettled knowing that additional Time Ships were stolen, with no new leads to follow beyond preserving Zordon’s death in 1998. Alpha 55 suddenly declares that dark energy has emerged from the normal time stream in the Hyper Stream, causing the team to investigate as only the Hyper Time Ship should be able to access it.

The dark energy causes them to return back into Newtech City at an unknown point in time. As they survey the city from their Time Ship, the Hyperforce Ranger notice there is a dystopian surrealism to the familiar city and decided to explore on foot to get a better understanding. Vesper hears an announcement that a curfew is now in effect and Chloe spies a squad of Black Rangers that look like the Mastodon Ranger. When Eddie descends to investigate, he is met with hostility and the Rangers are forced to fight until saved by a group of soldiers led by Captain Michael Hicks (Kyle Higgins). Captain Hicks recognises the Rangers are not from the same reality as they follow the soldiers to their base.
The captain informs the Hyperforce Rangers that the resistance known as The Coinless has encountered Rangers from another timeline before. The Hyperforce Rangers then learn about this world’s Tommy Oliver that became Lord Drakkon and how he created the Sentries using the stolen Power Coins. Currently, a power vacuum had been left after Billy from the regular timeline disabled the powers of Lord Drakkon and captured him. The evil in charge had splinted into groups, with The Coinless World’s Scorpina leading the most dominant faction. The Ranger then meet Colonel Song, who is this world’s version of Lina Song (Malika Lim Eubank).

After talking with Colonel Song, the Rangers decided to help them rescue captured soldiers that are part of The Coinless from one of Scorpina’s prisons. The Rangers lead an assault against the prison with their Hyper Zords and take out the Sentries guarding the facility. Vesper finds a server room with information about “The Great Destroyer,” which was revealed to be Serpentera. The rescued members then reveal Captain Hicks is a fake, causing Pumpkin Rapper to reveal himself. Although Pumpkin Rapper was badly damaged by the Rangers and their Zords, the monster self destructs, killing many soldiers and prisoners while badly injuring Vesper and Jack.

The Hyperforce Rangers become emotionally shellshocked by the overwhelming devastation of the blast, leading to the team being surrounded by Sabertooth Sentries, followed by an airship delivering Tyrannosaurus Ranger Sentries and Lord Drakkon himself.
Episode 20 Featuring Lord Drakkon
Episode 20 starts with a flashback to the entrance of Lord Drakkon (Jason David Frank) as he exits a green portal and makes a call via his communicator for transport back to Angel Grove. The Tyrannosaurus Sentry informs the evil Ranger of Scorpina’s coup d’état during his absence as she makes a play to capture Serpentera.
In the present, with the Hyperforce Rangers surrounded by Lord Drakkon and his Sentries, Alpha 55 informs the team that Drakkon is the source of the dark energy detected in the Hyper Stream. Emotionally distraught by the bodies around her, Chloe lashes out at Lord Drakkon causing Marv to hold her back as she tries to attack the evil Ranger. Drakkon forces the Rangers to submit to him and help stop Scorpina from taking Serpentera, with Colonel Song forced to wear an explosive collar to check the Rangers from resisting. The Rangers then work with Lord Drakkon as they fight in Scorpina’s base in a mountain range.

The Rangers fight against the resisting Sentries as they are forced to fight alongside Lord Drakkon. The Rangers become divided in their stance with Lord Drakkon but continue to fight against their foes. While trying to enter Serpentera, traps are activated and Vesper unintentionally breaks her Cerberus disc, but Eddie manages to collect the pieces. Scorpina confronts Lord Drakkon as Vesper and Marv stay inside the massive Zord, while the others chase after Scorpina’s Sentries as they are ordered to murder the population of the nearest city by Scorpina. As Chloe makes her way out, a Tyrannosaurus Ranger Sentry turns on the others and frees Song, leading to Chloe punching the double agent to maintain his cover.
Lord Drakkon and Marv team up to take down Scorpina, leading to her capture. Drakkon uses Marv’s cuffs to subdue the villain but the evil Ranger establishes his desire to destroy her. After Marv acts to stop him and objects to his decision, Drakkon tries to take his Morpher. Scorpina makes all three topple but this causes only Marv to fall out. Chloe tries to save Marv but luckily was saved by another airship piloted by Bulk of The Coinless. While trying to reprogram Serpentera, Vesper is badly damaged but managed to reprogram the Zord and set it to collide with the ocean. Lord Drakkon attempts to destroy Vesper but Eddie dangerously teleports blindly to save her.

The Rangers escape Serpentera by teleporting just as Vesper loses her left arm from an attack from Lord Drakkon. Serpentera slams into the ocean and Chloe manages to defeat the remaining Ranger Sentry planes with her Zord as they attack the Hyper Time Ship. Vesper is rushed to the medical bay and is saved with the healing charge technology. At the crash site, Lord Drakkon emerges with an unconscious Scorpina and a Sentry informs him that the Zord will be repaired within a month. Meanwhile, Alpha 55 informs the Rangers aboard their Time Ship that they have received a message and travel ahead into the future to respond to the call.
The rest of the story featured in the episodes is continued with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #26 in the Shattered Grid event. The comic also features the Green Hyperforce Ranger before the team meets him in the story, due to the Ranger entering the story from a different point in time. After the Shattered Grid, the Rangers lose their memories of the events when the Morphin Grid and timeline are repaired, hence why the Rangers remember nothing in the rest of the series.

The next chapter in the Power Rangers Hyperforce Recap will be the final episodes of the TTRPG series as it dives into the Rangers meeting the new Green Ranger, the fight for the Corona Aurora and the devastating finale that changes everything.
Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1 will continue the story on July 19, 2023. The latest Boom! Studios comic written by Melissa Flores and Meghan Camarena (Hyperforce Pink) will continue from the events of the TTRPG series that ended with 25 episodes.
