Boom! Studios Reveals Power Rangers Darkest Hour Comic Event and Unlimited Linkup

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Darkest Hour Linked

The latest Power Rangers comics will focus on a brand new 30th Anniversary event, Darkest Hour. The upcoming dark twist in the Power Rangers universe will include one shot releases starting this June.

This special will include both Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless #1 and Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1, as the teams of both graphic novels will take part in the year long event. The Power Rangers universe will never be the same as creators Melissa Flores, Adam Cesare, Meghan Camarena and the team unleash a significant new storyline starting with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111.

The Darkest Hour has been revealed by Boom! Studios as part of the 30th Anniversary celebration as the follow up to the Recharged story arc. Much like the Shattered Grid event celebrating the Power Rangers’ 25th Anniversary, the latest twelve month comic event will continue the tradition and will feature the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on a darker journey in their fight against evil. Two new comics were also revealed as upcoming releases including the return to Drakkon’s dimension featured in the Shattered Grid comic event and the return of the Hyperforce Rangers, who were originally from unique tabletop RPG series from HyperRPG that concluded with 25 episodes.

Darkest Hour Links Unlimited Comic Releases

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111 will start the new Darkest Hour comic event and will also include the Hyperforce Rangers and Drakkon Rangers that feature in the upcoming releases of the Unlimited one shot graphic novels. This will start with the introduction of the Drakkon Rangers in Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless #1 followed by the continuation of the Hyperforce story in Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1. The synopsis of the first four issues has also been revealed as a listing on Amazon US, which includes a mix of villains and threats, plus possessed Wild Force Rangers that will affect the timeline once more.

Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, The Dead Lucky) will feature as a writer for the new Darkest Hour comic event and will work with Hyperforce Pink, Meghan Camarena, to bring back the Hyperforce Rangers after the events of Season 1. Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1 will also feature the creative team of artist Federico Sabbatini, colourist Bryan Valenza, and letterer Ed Dukeshire. Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless #1 will be released first and was created by writer Adam Cesare, with artist Moisés Hidalgo, colourist Arthur Hesli, and letterer Ed Dukeshire.

The twelve month comic event for the 30th Anniversary will also feature artist Simona Di Gianfelice (Firefly), colourist Raúl Angulo (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and letterer Ed Dukeshire (The Woods, Irredeemable). The first issue and volume main cover will be created by star artist Taurin Clarke (Miles Morales: Spider-Man), with variant covers for #111 by acclaimed illustrators Björn Barends (Spawn), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Keyla Valerio (Power Rangers Unlimited), Ariel Olivetti (BRZRKR) and Tyler Kirkham (Invincible). A preview has also been shared by Taurin Clarke, which may be a first look at an upcoming main cover for another issue, which featured the White Ranger and Hyperforce Green in an entangled situation.

“Mistress Vile has won. With control of the Morphin Grid and Dark Specter’s infection spreading throughout all of time and space, the separated and stranded Rangers receive help from the last team they’d expect, but the DRAKKON RANGERS may not be the help they were hoping for… Meanwhile, if relationships at their breaking point weren’t enough chaos for Trini, Zack, Kimberly, and Tommy to contend with, it’ll take a team effort with Aisha to break the vile spell cast on their close friend and the current Green Ranger, Matt. And with the Death Ranger, the cadaverously possessed Wild Force Rangers, and the return of an evil bounty hunter also in the mix, their Master plan best not fail… or the Rangers may be erased from existence forever–good thing the HyperForce Rangers are also on the scene!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Recharged Vol. 4 Synopsis

This huge plan involving so many Ranger teams is incredible and it’s fantastic that 25th Anniversary anniversary content will also be part of the new event. Both the Shattered Grid comics and Power Rangers Hyperforce series were projects for that celebration so it’s wicked that they are being revisited in such a large scale story. It’s wonderful that so many characters will be given the spotlight, including the Ranger teams of the one shot graphic novels, but it’s the inclusion of Matt becoming an Evil Green Ranger, Death Ranger, and even zombified Wild Force Rangers that will likely make fans quake with anticipation. It will be exciting to dive into each release as they debut before the true horrors begin.

Release Dates Revealed

Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1 will continue the story of the Hyperforce Rangers after the events of the first series, which will be released on July 19th, 2023. Variant covers will also be available for the release.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #111 will start the Darkest Hour comic event and will be released on August 23th, 2023. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Recharged Vol. 4 will be released on April 30th, 2024, and will include issues 111 to 114 from the twelve month comic event.
