Power Rangers Hyperforce: Chapter Three Recap

Power Rangers Hyperforce is a one of a kind Power Rangers series that became the first TTRPG web series in the franchise’s history. HyperRPG collaborated with Saban Entertainment to create a canon and original story of Time-Travelling Power Rangers as they face the Alliance of Evil. Each episode of the series was three hours long and featured many interactions and in depth stories. With the upcoming release of Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1, we are diving into the iconic events that took place in a series of recaps.

Power Rangers Hyperforce was an original series created by HyperRPG as a Table-top Roleplaying Game (TTRPG) live stream experience. The live stream aired as a web series on HyperRPG’s Twitch channel, featuring as a sequel to Power Rangers Time Force. The series included a talented cast consisting of Ranger series actors and iconic personalities, led by Malika Lim Eubank as the Game Master (GM) and storyteller. The game system that was used to determine the success of actions and combat was created by the Game Master, which centred around 6-side dice.

The main cast included Peter Sudarso as Marv Shih/Hyperforce Red, Andre Meadows as Eddie Banks/Hyperforce Blue, Meghan Camarena as Chloe Ashford/Hyperforce Pink, Cristina Vee as Vesper Vasquez/ Hyperforce Black, and Paulie Schrier as Jack Dealgoode Thomas/ Hyperforce Yellow. The series also includes various guests throughout the Power Rangers franchise, with new characters added in each series. Malika Lim Eubank portrayed many of the non-playable characters in the series as GM including Alpha 55 and almost all foes in the series, but Zac Lim Eubank of HyperRPG also participated as a guest character and as GM for the Shattered Grid special episodes.

In this edition of the Power Rangers Hyperforce Recap, we’ll will explore Chapter 3, starting from Episode 11, where the Rangers find themselves in Arthurian times, attempt to save Marv, and encounter S.P.D.

Episode 11 continues the aftermath of the crash as the four Rangers are escorted by the Knights to the castle of Camelot. This is where they meet Lady Guinevere (Allie Gonino), Merlin, and Knights of the Round Table, including Eddie’s ancestor, Sir Edward Banks II. After explaining their “magic”, Guinevere offers to help repair the ship in exchange for finding King Arthur and destroying the Red Dragon causing devastation and was suspected of taking the King. The Rangers, Guinevere, and the Knights head for the cave of the Dragon the next day and are attacked by Harpies and Sirens during their travels. Using gems, Guinevere and the Knights Morph into Ranger-like Knight forms to fight with the Rangers against the threat.

The Rangers come to face the dragon in the cave near the abandoned village and manage to deal multiple hits and massive damage from combined attacks. The Red Dragon was revealed to be King Arthur, who was transformed into the beast by a curse from Morgan Le Fay. The Rangers use the healing charge to heal Arthur and Guinevere gifts them a gem revealed to be a pink magic crystal, which was given to Chloe as it syncs with her power. Alpha 55 teleports the Rangers to the repaired Time Ship and sends a message to the Time Force Academy as a call for help to save Marv.

Message from Jen Scotts & Time Force Silver joins the series featured in Power Rangers Hyperforce Episode 12

A Mystic Mother and a Silver Brother

Three days pass since the message was sent and the Rangers are desperate but, soon, they receive one from their instructor, Jen Scotts. With Vesper’s attempt at a séance, the Rangers managed to connect with Marv, allowing Alpha 55 to lock on to the stolen Time Ship in the normal time stream. As they attempt to find a way to get Marv, the Alliance Leader continues his relentless torture and interrogation of Marv. Marv feeds false information to the infuriated Leader, who sends Primator to capture Alpha 55 and make the Rangers see illusions of loved ones. Isolated Marv then meets an invisible hero, revealed to be a Time Force Silver Ranger and Marv’s missing brother, Joe Shih.

The Rangers on the Time Ship continue to resist Primator as he uses illusions against them. Chloe and Vesper try to trick the monster into an airlock to eject him but Primitor managed to avoid their plan. As he attempts to grab Alpha 55 and use an invisiportal, Chloe shoots Primator while disguised as her deceased Mother and Jack throws himself that allows Alpha to escape. Chloe uses her pink gem from Guinevere to form a knight-like Battlizer form and the Pink Battle Warrior blasts Primator out of the airlock, destroying the monster. With Joe’s help, both Marv and his brother manage to sabotage the ship and are teleported back to their ship, allowing the Rangers to escape.

Events have left each member shocked as each Ranger faces their demons in episode 13, especially with the Time Ship in disrepair. While Vesper is napping, the Rangers discuss their troubles with each other until Alpha 55 detects an anomaly in the town of Briarwood in the year 2005. Upon their arrival a day early, as requested by Jack, they encounter a burning apartment building and leap into action to help. The time anomaly occurs early and the Rangers are teleported before the Mystic Mother in the Mystic Dimension. She revealed that she caused the anomaly to summon them before her and revealed the Alliance of Evil’s plan to revive Zordon and how his Z-Wave led her from being Rita Repulsa to who she is today. Mystic mother helps confront their insecurities and helped them unlock the Hyper Vector Blaster by combing their weapons. Time Force responds to a message from Chloe that grants them access to secure files for Joe’s secret mission for them to find him.

Space Patrol Hyper

The Rangers arrive in Newtech City during the year 2025, where Vesper wakes up and the team all try to find Joe using different methods. Alpha 55 managed to make a weak connection with Joe that has a lag of half an hour. The Rangers leave the Hyper Time Ship and head to the apartment of Adonis Washington, where they are confronted by Detective Lina Song of S.P.D. D-Squad. She is searching for a missing proton accelerator that was mysteriously stolen and questions the Rangers. The Rangers choose to remain incognito by passing themselves off as ‘H-Squad from Marv’s home planet, Kaien. While searching together for the missing device, they are attacked by a furniture/pirate themed Mutant named Captain Pegs and a monstrous pet Macaw, Birdie.

The Rangers defeat Birdie but expose Captain Peg’s mutant DNA during the battle, which makes him grow large. The Rangers use their weapons to form the Hyper Vortex Blaster and Eddie’s smart move makes his wooden body swell with water to destroy him. Detective Song takes the Rangers to brief Commander Anubis ‘Doggie’ Cruger, who trusts them enough to give permission to look for their undercover officer as S.P.D. tracks down the missing device. Lina revealed that A-Squad Rangers are offworld and B-Squad is still in training to become Rangers, leaving Song to take the Hyperforce Rangers undercover to follow the lead on Captain Peg’s employer, fog mutant Napoleon Wrench. They find a hideout for misfit teens, the missing proton accelerator in his hands, and Maxwell – who is actually Joe Shih in disguise.

Joe continues to maintain his cover, leading to “Maxwell” and Napoleon leaving the scene as the Rangers try to find a way out of their predicament. Joe was discovered by Napoleon trying to sabotage the proton accelerator during the chaos between the Rangers and the misfit teens. He manages to escape but Detective Song imprisons the Rangers separately when she takes them back to HQ, after botching the mission. As they are interrogated individually by Anubis Cruger (Zac Lim Eubank) and Lina, Eddie cracks under the pressure causing him to spill everything about them rapidly. Joe’s cover ends up becoming blown and is released to be part of Time Force, leading him to be badly injured but destroying Napoleon from a pulse of the damaged device.

The pulse is detected at the HQ of S.P.D., leading to the Hyperforce Rangers being deployed to the location. The Alliance of Evil appear and attempt to take the life force of the misfit mutants gathered. The leader reveals that their Time Ship is damaged and will require a Time Force signature to reboot. During the conflict, the Rangers manage to heal Joe but they reveal their position to the leader. The leader managed to grab Joe and cast him aside while keeping his Chrono Morpher, which the leader uses to reboot the Time Ship. The Hyperforce Rangers return to Alpha 55 and their Hyper Time Ship to track Joe’s Morpher as both ships reenter the time stream.

Episode 15 of Power Rangers Hyperforce sees the Rangers unable to defend the mutant misfit teens and Joe’s Chrono Morpher taken by the Alliance Leader.

In the next edition of the Power Rangers Hyperforce Recap, we will dive into the Ranger’s continued adventures as they fight the evil A-Squad, return to their time, travel to Planet Andresia, and face the horrors of the Shattered Grid.
