Power Rangers Hyperforce: Chapter Two Recap

Power Rangers Hyperforce Recap

Power Rangers Hyperforce is a one of a kind Power Rangers series that became the first TTRPG web series in the franchise’s history. HyperRPG collaborated with Saban Entertainment to create a canon and original story of Rangers from the year 3016. Each episode of the series was three hours long and featured many interactions and in depth stories. With the upcoming release of Power Rangers Unlimited: Hyperforce #1, we are diving into the iconic events that took place, from which we are continuing starting from Episode 6.

Power Rangers Hyperforce was an original series created by HyperRPG as a table top roleplaying game (TTRPG) live stream experience. The live stream aired as a web series on HyperRPG’s Twitch channel, featuring as a sequel to Power Rangers Time Force. The series included a talented cast consisting of Ranger series actors and iconic personalities, led by Malika Lim Eubank as the Game Master (GM) and storyteller. The game system that was used to determine the success of actions and combat was created by the Game Master, which centred around six side dice.

The main cast included Peter Sudarso as Marv Shih/Hyperforce Red, Andre Meadows as Eddie Banks/Hyperforce Blue, Meghan Camarena as Chloe Ashford/Hyperforce Pink, Cristina Vee as Vesper Vasquez/ Hyperforce Black, and Paulie Schrier as Jack Dealgoode Thomas/ Hyperforce Yellow. The series also includes various guests throughout the Power Rangers franchise, with new characters added in each series. Malika Lim Eubank portrayed many of the non-playable characters in the series as GM including Alpha 55 and almost all foes in the series, but Zac Lim Eubank of HyperRPG also participated as a guest character and as GM for the Shattered Grid special episodes.

Hyperforce Rangers Defined as Next Chapter Begins

Power Rangers Hyperforce main team and their TTRPG character art featured in the series.

Power Rangers Hyperforce greatly defined the quirks of the Rangers during the first segment of episodes, which were continuously explored and deepened as the series progressed. Many interactions and character defining moments were created spontaneously due to the nature of a TTRPG series. Vesper instantly demonstrated herself to be an independent rebel with tech proficiency. She often acts out, creating hilarious moments as she does things that could get her in trouble.

Chloe shows she loves food including her all time favourite, burritos, but shows a deep caring side to her like many pink Rangers. Her lighthearted nature and proficiency in stealth have always been a great asset to the team. She also seeks to learn about her parents and tries to sweet talk her way out of bad situations. Marv is the leader of the team from the planet Kaien and demonstrates that it isn’t easy to take command. He often second guesses himself but always proves himself to be brave, thoughtful, and charismatic. He is Eddie’s best friend and also used to be Jack’s partner but impersonated an officer and pretended to be his brother. He did this to uncover what happened to him until Jack learned the truth.

Eddie is a history buff that is enthusiastic about the Power Rangers and showed a thirst for knowledge. He works well with his teammates and also has feelings for Vesper, which are explored and created huge dramatic moments throughout the series. He also comes from a long line of Eddie Banks that can be traced back to the 6th Century. Jack is a beat cop/Time Force officer with great strength that was present at the academy to give a lecture as requested by Senior Commander Varge. He is a levelheaded, no nonsense man who demonstrates understanding and always shares his wisdom with others. He also acts in the best interest of others or himself even if it may make him look silly at times.

Warning: The following overview of events doesn’t include significant moments of the Rangers individually. This includes significant events, in game outtakes, and character moments that would be lost to interoperation without watching so ensure to check out Episodes 6 to 10 of Power Rangers Hyperforce.

The Second Chapter

The second story arc features episodes 6 to 10 that include the RPM arc, Christmas Special, and the Reefside Arc. Like Karen Ashley as a guest for the Angel Grove Arc episodes, three guests also appeared in these significant episodes of the series. These included Mike Ginn returning for this series as Gem/RPM Gold, Zac as the guest character, Santa, for the Christmas episode, and Jason David Frank returning for his iconic role as Tommy Oliver/Dino Thunder Black. The episode continues from episode 5, where the team meet M and other people travelling in caravans to reach the Domed City of Corinth.

During their journey with M and the caravans heading to Corinth City, the Rangers speculated that they were in a post apocalyptic future, in which the alliance had successfully conquered the world. However, M revealed the conquerers were an army of machines led by a computer virus, Venjix, and discovered they are in the year 2009 when asking Chaz Winchester IV and the Rangers realise, they are in a timeline outside of their own. The Rangers are soon attached by Grinders and the attack robot, Kilobyte, who infects the Black Hyperforce Ranger as he uncovers that Vesper is an android, shocking the others. Vesper is forced to attack her friends as she is under the control of the Venjix virus, which causes her to relentlessly attack Eddie who is dragged away by the bots.

Venjix becomes aware of the Rangers and their advanced technology, especially the advanced android technology that makes up Vesper’s physiology. He commands the Grinders to take away the weapons and Morphers of the Rangers and cages them in a factory. Marv, Chloe, and Jack are caged together and discover an oddly upbeat and enthusiastic captive revealed to be Gem (Mike Ginn). Gem overhears the conversation between the team members when infected Vesper returns. Gem had already formulated an escape plan but was happy to make more Grinders so he could blow them up later.

The team work together to free themselves and the civilian captives, with Chloe and Gem resonating with each other as they plot to use bombs. The Rangers manage to get their Morphers back and find a way to enter Vesper’s mind to help her using a connection with their Morphers. After an intense battle against the virus, the team manage to bring back Vesper and all fought against Buzzkill alongside the Gold Ranger, followed by their respective Zords. The Chronos Megazord makes its debut as the Rangers sync their energy and by using pre-placed bombs activated by saying “It’s Boom Time”. Weakened foes, Kilobyte and giant Buzzkill, are sent flying several thousand miles away. The Ranger returns to their ship and reenter the time stream, with weeks passing as they head to their next destination.

The Rangers talk about their insecurities as Marv tells Vesper about being an alien-human from Kaien, to help ease her after being revealed to be an android. The Rangers, except Jack, are suddenly and magically teleported, discovering that they have arrived at the North Pole on December 24, 1986, where they meet an elf named Squeezy Sparkletoes. The elf brings them to meet Santa at his workshop, who asks them for help against Krampus. Santa consoles the Rangers’ individual issues, mostly for Vesper and Marv, before Krampus arrives with dark creatures known as Naughties. Santa uses his Battlizer to fight as a warrior that looks like a Ranger and even calls upon his Sleigh to be similar to a Zord. After helping with deliveries, retrieving Santa’s List, defeating Krampus, and accepting gifts themselves, Jack returns with their Time Ship for them to leave.

When Jack arrives, Tommy Oliver (Jason David Frank) is revealed to be with him as Jack reveals they were missing for several weeks rather than hours. While searching, Jack and Alpha 55 discovered time anomalies from the alliance leader in Reefside, 2005, leading to Tommy helping him find them. Tommy tells the Hyperforce Rangers that Dr. Mercer is missing and his friend, Hayley, is turning against him. After discovering that Hayley was exposed to a strange gas at her Cyber Café, the Rangers recharge the Black Dino Gem that gives Tommy his powers back as the Dino Thunder Black Ranger. At the café, they encounter Putties and a horse/plant hybrid monster called Perfume Pony.

They defeat the monster after it grows from forcibly taking in its gas with the Hyperforce Zords and Mezodon Megazord. Using the Brachio Staff, the monster is sealed underground and the team cures those afflicted by the gas by combining their powers. Dr Mercer was found when he calls Tommy at Mercer Industries, who reveals that “The Leader” managed to partially revive Mesogog from residual Dino DNA still in Mercer. Tommy stays to help Mercer prevent the return of Mesogog within him as the Rangers investigate another disturbance found by Alpha 55.

On the other side of Reefside, the Rangers encounter the stolen Time Ship with Scorpina, who is knocked unconscious in a brief battle. They capture her after the stolen Time Ship escapes and pursue using their Hyper Time Ship with their captured enemy. After Eddie realises that The Leader might be trying to stop Zordon’s death and the Z wave, the Rangers are visited by various demonic visions, including Jack’s deceased Robot Dog, Marv’s missing brother, Eddie’s ex girlfriend Biance, Vesper seeing a cool Eddie, and Chloe seeing her deceased mother.

Alpha 55 is revealed to be impersonated when the real Alpha uses his hidden chest cannon to fire at the imposter. The imposter is revealed to be a shape-shifting monster, Primator, who grows giant after a brief battle. The Rangers call upon the Chronos Hyperforce Megazord’s Phoenix formation but Primator is too strong and badly damages the Zords. Primator then separates Marv from the others and kidnaps him using the Invisiportal technology stolen from Mercer Industries. While Marv is taken aboard The Leader’s Time Ship, the other Rangers find themselves confronted by knights on horses as they discover they are stranded in the 6th Century.

The next chapter in the Power Rangers Hyperforce recap will dive into the Ranger’s adventures as they try to save Marv, encounter a familiar face, and meet SPD.
