Gamera Making a Comeback via Netflix?!

It looks like Gamera, the famous turtle kaiju, will be making a return! Netflix recently released a trailer for Gamera Rebirth, a six episode animated series, which looks to be a return for the turtle kaiju.

In the 1 minute and 40 seconds trailer, we get a look at what to expect in the new series. It seems it mainly focuses on a dinosaur looking kaiju, who is possibly named Jigar, attacking Tokyo, as well as the Japanese navy attacking Gamera as he flies in to fight this kaiju.

The trailer starts with two people exploring what looks like an abandoned lab that’s been badly damaged. Is this a possible creation site for kaiju? We are also informed that Gamera will be fighting a total of five kaiju through the series but the only one we see for now, aside from Gamera, is the dinosaur looking kaiju.

There is also a promotional poster that reveals a pterodactyl-like kaiju named Gyaos but it is unclear if that’s one of the five kaiju Gamera has to fight or not. There doesn’t appear to be a release date just yet, unfortunately.

Who is Gyaos?

Originally appearing in the third Gamera movie, Gamera vs. Gyaos, released in 1967, Gyaos is a flying kaiju with a literal thirst for blood! Gyaos has appeared in six of the official Gamera feature films (if you count the stock footage used in Gamera: Super Monster released in 1980).

Are you excited for Gamera? Who do you think the other kaiju will be? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more Gamera news from The Toku Source.
