Great news, Kaiju fans! The newest instalment for Legendary’s Monsterverse, which has been focused around Godzilla, has been revealed!
Legendary recently released a short 34 second teaser trailer on their YouTube channel, as well as their other social media platforms, to reveal the title for the next step on their Monsterverse journey, which originally kicked off in 2014 with Godzilla. The next movie will be called Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and it looks like we may be getting a whole new Kaiju that could be an original creation for Legendary’s Monsterverse. The film will be a continuation from 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong and looks like it will have the two titular Kaiju teaming up against a new threat that looks like it is from the Hollow Earth we all got to explore a little in the last film.
From what we see in the short teaser, it looks like this new Kaiju will be another ape/monkey Kaiju, similar to Kong, but it looks like the new Kaiju is more like a chimpanzee or maybe an orangutan; it looks like it may have some energy based abilities, similar to Godzilla, as we see it’s eyes light up in a similar manner and colour to Godzilla using his atomic breath. It’ll be interesting to see how this new Kaiju factors in to the Monsterverse and if they’ll be an ally or an enemy to Godzilla and Kong.
