Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always premiere draws closer as the 30th Anniversary special airs this April. The exciting release sees the return of the iconic cast including David Yost, Walter Jones, Steve Cardenas and Catherine Sunderland as well as the return of Rita Repulsa as Robo Rita along with Johnny Yong Bosch and Karen Ashley. The special will also see the debut of a new cast member, Charlie Kersh, honouring Thuy Trang as Trini’s Daughter, Minh. Celebrating the Power Rangers franchise and with the recently revealed trailer, here are all the details regarding the exciting exclusive special coming to Netflix.

The Power Rangers franchise is celebrating its 30th Anniversary by returning fans to Angel Grove and the iconic Rangers that started the first series in 1993. The new contract with Netflix will allow fans around the world to exclusively watch the latest content from Power Rangers, including the new 30th Anniversary special and Dino Fury sequel, Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Executive Producer, Simon Bennett, revealed the upcoming release via Hasbro Pulse in 2022, revealing the return of the cast that left the series over time.

The 30th Anniversary special trailer was recently released by Netflix, revealing the story featured in the show. This includes the iconic characters for the three seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Billy (David Yost) and Zack (Walter Jones) as they lose Trini when attacked by the revived witch, Robo Rita. With three Rangers captured, Alpha calls upon Rocky (Steve Cardenas) and Kat (Catherine Sunderland) to stop Rita from returning to the past to destroy them before they receive their powers.

The special is the first time the franchise has yet the term ‘kill’, as Minh Kwan (Charlie Kersh) delivers the line including the word that had been avoided for years by the franchise. The series will also debut Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch) and Aisha (Karen Ashley) as part of ‘SPA’, which has yet to be fully revealed. Featured in the trailer is the return of iconic locations such as the Command Centre, Rita’s Moon Palace, and Ernie’s Juice Bar, along with nostalgic villains such as the Putty Patrollers and Robo versions of Mighty Minotaur and Snizzard. There are also a lot of easter eggs that also reference different Power Rangers series, including the various Ranger teams that have debuted over the years, which are fully explored by Airlim in the video below:

Listed as part of the cast and crew include the return of Barbara Goodson as the voice of Rita Repulsa and iconic artist, Ron Wasserman, who will be scoring the music for the 30th Anniversary special. Tuari Wright has also been listed as a member of the cast, with his role yet to be revealed for the upcoming release. It has been speculated that the Yellow Saber Tooth Tiger Ranger powers will be inherited by Minh and may appear in the future content of the franchise.

The cast of the special has been sharing various set photos on social media, including images from Simon Bennett, David Yost, and Catherine Sunderland. This reveals the great features created by the team, such as creations from Tracey Collins made by Toei, and details that have gone into making the special and returning fans to the nostalgia of the iconic Ranger series that started it all. These include the reimagined locations seen in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always.

It’s fantastic to finally see the return of the iconic team and to see the first and second generations of Rangers being able to work together for the first time. It will be exciting to see how the story will unfold as the Rangers as veterans have only been seen in featured anniversary episodes and Boom! Studios comics. The Zord and Mighty Megazord were also a fantastic surprise but if morphed Rangers have been captured, hopefully, the Ninjetti coins will make their return since they haven’t made a revival appearance yet. For now, fans are hyped for the Mighty Morphin return as fans await the release this April.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always will premiere on April 19, 2023, and will debut on Netflix exclusively. A reminder can currently be set on Netflix for the upcoming release available worldwide, which will have a total runtime of 55 minutes. News for Power Rangers Cosmic Fury is expected to follow soon after the premiered release of the 30th Anniversary special.
