Ranger Academy comic cover gives fans first look at upcoming Power Rangers release from Boom! Studios

The Power Rangers Ranger Academy comic cover gives fans the first look at the upcoming release from Boom! Studios. The latest comic is part of the Free Comic Book Day in the USA and is part of the 2023 line-up. The release will feature a brand-new story within the Power Rangers universe and teases the new characters that will debut. The cover also hints the use of additional characters along with an extremely iconic location making a return for the first time in years.

Power Rangers Ranger Academy was previously revealed to be part of the Free Comic Book Day line-up for 2023. This new comic will be written by Maria Ingrande Mora, with art by Jo Mi-Gyeong. The new comic book has yet to reveal any details regarding the story and any potential links to the 30th anniversary special, set to release during April this year. Fans have speculated there may be a link as Johnny Yong Bosch has a Space Patrol Academy badge as part of his new uniform for the event.

Ranger Academy Comic Reveals Cover

The cover of the upcoming Boom! Studios Power Rangers comic shows fans a preview of the contents expected in the new release. The cover art was created by Miguel Mercado and features three new characters in brand-new uniforms, who have yet to be introduced. These new characters will debut in the comic that also teases the Command Center, which fans know as the headquarters from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. There are also character silhouettes teased in a Crystal like object, which has each figure in a different colour. Below is the cover for the Power Rangers Ranger Academy Comic:

The new characters take the focus of the cover and even have nostalgic looking uniforms because of the Ranger Lightning bolt badge. The design is reminiscent of the Hyperforce Rangers since they have a lightning bolt for a segregating design on their jackets. They also have defined colours on their uniforms, which could suggest Ranger colours for their future. The Command Center is a significant addition to this cover, which had previously been destroyed in both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and by Divatox in Power Rangers Turbo. This could be the Command Center rebuilt or even the Power Chamber featured in Power Ranger Zeo and Turbo.

The colour based silhouettes are an interesting tease to the poster as they could be Rangers and mentors for this story. Although it is difficult to guess who these characters could be, one character in blue looks like SPD’s Doggie Cruger, which could be the same character or new character from same species. It will be interesting to see if all characters featured in the comic will be completely new or if past Rangers and mentors will make an appearance for this new comic event.

“It’s time to enroll in a bold new take on the Power Rangers mythology in this Free Comic Day Special! Class is in session for the start of an epic saga that is sure to delight longtime Rangers fans, and provide an excellent jumping on point for brand new readers.”

Boom! Studios Power Rangers Ranger Academy will be part of the Free Comic Book Day and will be released on April 5th, 2023. For more information regarding the line-up for the event, check out the official Free Comic Book Day website.
